We are in the process of launching a couple of new sites and while we know it will be a long process to get them to rank, achieving some long-tail keywords would be beneficial.

What sites would you recommend for getting some easy links to start with that can help the indexation and ranking process along in the preliminary stages?

Or another way to put the question - when you launch a new site, what steps do you go through?

edit(i forgot to answer your question of where my sites are): I have used this strategy with several sites, dittoeffect.com which currently is over a year old and gets about 1million+ hits a year as well as another site which I will not share the name of which is only a month old competing with some 10 year old credit card sites for some decent terms in the top 10 (3000 a month search volume terms).

Sometimes it may seem that way however the way I see it is that sometimes a tumblr blog is not very popular or does not have a lot of links and page rank going to it so it won't be crawled for quite some time (even up to 60 days sometimes). Because of this you can see a fairly regular stream of links coming in.

Also I doubt you would be as obsessed with it as I was as I was building close to 700 likes a day (700 or more links a day) so I could focus my attention on this over a short period of time.

Being really good with searching on google and through other means I also used this to get links from high page rank sites including 400-800 over PR4-6 page links included in those. The higher page rank pages do get crawled faster though so sometimes it may be wise to avoid getting more than one from a domain. Also since these links are virtually endless, limited by the time and effort put into it, you can just get like 20 a day in a couple minutes and then just forget about it to keep it looking really natural.

Make sure to look at the rules for tumblr as self promotion is not something they support.

A good thing to do though which I don't even really see as self promotion is to search in google:

        inurl:tumblr.com "your keywords"

in my opinion by liking relevant pages to your site you are then avoiding self promotion as you would obviously have interest in these pages as well as the added bonus of being able to add 1000s of relevant links.

Another important note is that your blog can be something like ditto-effect.tumblr.com and the links you get show up as ditto-effect. google sees these as links with the anchor text "ditto effect" without the hyphen so thats great too. Only fall back is that these can only link to your main page and only one tumblr account can be pointed to a domain.

Its hard to say the value of some of these links because its not in content though at the very least this is a great way to get page rank to go up as well as get your site crawled like crazy.

If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask 🙂

Thanks, this is a very interesting tip and something I was not previously aware of.

However, what stage is the site you are building the links to at?

Our site is only about a month old - would it not be counter-productive to get 10,000 links in such a short space of time?

Sorry for the delayed reply, I have been a bit under the weather the past few days. The website URL is www.calcioitaliashop.com.

It is an ecommerce website selling football shirts. We are working on a longer term strategy of forming relationships with targeted blogs in our niche, but I was wondering if there are any "short term" strategies recommended for some initial juice.

I am not meaning things that are going to rank for our main generic keywords, but getting our long-tail products picked up would be very useful in generating initial revenue to fund the longer term expansions.

ya for sure. commentluv applies best for those writing blog posts.

rereading the OP one aspect is helping with indexation. I read somewhere that twitter links (while not dofollow) do help with indexation speed.

If possible Simon could you be more specific as to what kind of new sites you plan on trying to get easy links for?

Assuming that the user has a blog with several posts. The question says nothing about a blog, but instead references a new site looking at rankings for long-tail traffic.

ah yes i believe i am mistaken. I got confused since seoquake does not cross out the links from my twitter page though it should cross out nofollow links.

the commentluv tip should help out though 🙂

                    Hi DittoEffect,

Can you give a little more background on the twitter profile links? The links have had the nofollow attribute for years now, with one of the more "recent" additions being the bio link getting a nofollow (see Sugarrae's post at http://www.sugarrae.com/social-media-sphere/twitter-lays-down-for-google/ as one of many talking about this). I think it would have been huge news had the nofollows been removed, and I haven't seen anyone else talk about this.

Thats some really good advice there.

                      a few other suggestions include:

                      1. A Twitter profile has dofollow links for both the main profile as well as it seems as though tweets have dofollow links though you cant choose the anchor text.

                      2. Commentluv blog comments - search on google "commentluv enabled" "keywords or general topic" for example "commentluv enabled" "dog houses". Commentluv allows you to comment on a blog and generally in return one of your more recent posts can be selected for as dofollow link.

Launching a new site you need a strategy for your marketing, This would involve what type of things you want to use.

A few quick tips to get links:

                        • Blogs in your niche, see if you can guest post.

                        • Social Bookmarking websites.

                        • Upload your content to video sites.

                        • Make social profiles for your business, link back to your site via these.

                        • Link u via your linkedin profile to your site.

                        Hope that helps

I suggest looking into building links with tumblr. you can make a tumblr blog and in the options you can set that tumblr blog to forward to your website's domain. after doing this you can then like other people's posts on their blogs by clicking a little heart on other tumblr blogs and by doing this you will get a link back to your site from their blog. this is a really easy way to get a lot of links quite easily.

having a lot of experience and practice I managed to get well over 10,000 in about a few weeks. Part of the reason for such a large number of links is because posts can be reblogged which means that another person's blog will have a copy of a post including the links to your blog. This means that liking one post sometimes gets you even over 10 links on 10 other tumblr blogs.

This is great for getting indexed and getting crawled very frequently though not so great for getting a variety of anchor text.

if this is unclear check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJYWNh1S_8o this video is a bit old but i think it goes over how to set up your account to point to your site.

                          hope this helps.

Back link from site with DA of 72 to a website domain. Clicking on the link redirects to our website not the attended one.

                            Hi,
I've ran a back link check and discovered a good back link to a site which then gets redirected back to my company's website. I have a feeling that an old SEO agency has purchased a small website which has a decent link back from a relevant organisation with a high Domain authority and then redirects the domain to our website to get the link juice. What are your thought on this? Is this really bad practise and possibly damaging? Thanks, Jim

I had a question and I am hoping that some one on this community will be able to help clarify. We went through a link removal and disavow process last year. If we see more unnatural links showing up in our link profile and we want to disavow those links, what should be included in the new list of links that need to be disavowed: Only new links or domains Old list that was disavowed + new list that needs to be disavowed Thank you in advance for your help.

How to get rid of ezinearticles links etc?

I know the standard answer of email all the sites but, I dont like my chances of even getting any delisted..
Have around 260 links with about 60% of them junk.
Some links are from sig links on forums that I actually legitimately post to and from real comments I have made on the web over the years. Should all of these go? Was thinking of hiring a freelancer to do this or maybe going through an online tool if anyone has any suggestions? An example is this http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Era-of-Digital-Signage&id=6236852 Edit:  Well I got a reply from ezine and from goarticles! They are removing the articles, maybe its becoming a headache for them all as, Sorry, GoArticles.com is no longer accepting new article submissions or account signups. We wish this wasn't the end, but unfortunately, it is and we aren't able to continue. You can download a backup copy of all of your submissions by logging into your existing account so that you can re-use your content on your own website or other competitor sites. 1000 of links on my website ? is it good or bad

Hi guys my site: www.dorchdanola-netbutik.dk is a e-commerce store, and generally we have many links on all pages because of the many products and categories. Im not sure if this is actually bad or good? I've been told that it will definately harm my site when google crawls it. The thing is that google visit my site often and I still have good pageranks in google. So does it actually harm my site having all these products and categories? And what can I do about it if google see every page as duplicate content? I also link to my social pages like FB, G+, e.g. Should I put rel="nofollow" or rel="me" on these social links? Thanks guys!

Is tiered link building a good thing?

I think that I have watched all the webinairs and online courses available on the web, but I still don't seem to know how and where to get links from. I know what type of links I should be getting and what type I should be avoiding, but that little luck so far. I came across the website of Matthew Woodward about tiered link building where he explains how to do this type of link building in depth. It seems quite interesting but also a lot of work so I don't want to invest my precious time in something that will be penalised by Google in the near future. Is there anyone that can give me some reason why I should or shouldn't do this?
