Google crawl rate almost zero since re-launch, organic search up 50% though!
-
We're confused as to why Google's crawl of our site has dropped hugely since our new site went live. The URLs of almost all pages changed, and were 301d to the new site. About 20% of our pages were blocked by robots.txt for the re-launch. The re-launch has been great for organic search, with hits up about 50%. Yet our new content is taking a lot longer to get indexed than before. Our KB downloaded a day according to webmaster tools are well down, as is time spent downloading a page. Any ideas as to why this is?i7hwX.png

Hi David,
First, my preference would always be to use 301 redirect to send pages that no longer exist to a new URL.
Using a 301 passes link juice and signals search engines that the old page should be de-indexed and the new page indexed in its place.
Barring some issue with your rel=canonical tags, which would be the first place to look, I would check other things that can send signals to the search engines about freshness:
- meta refresh tags
- update frequency reported in your sitemap
- custom crawl rate setting in Webmaster Tools
Then of course, there is an analysis of the differences between your old design and the new...have you made a significant change to your menu(s) and/or internal linking structure which has made it harder for crawlers to follow links to all pages in your site?
Hope that helps,
Sha

It's the same domain but we've rebuilt the website and improved the url and content structure.
We've consolidated urls (e.g. redirecting to canonical url) and published the update xml sitemap.
Pages are crawled correctly, we just can't figure out why the graph changed like that.

Hi David,
Just a few questions to help understand your situation:
- When you say "new site" do you mean that you have changed to a new domain?
If it is a new domain:
- Did you 301 individual pages to relevant pages on the new domain, or do you have a catch-all sending all traffic to home?
- Is the chart you uploaded from the new Webmaster Tools account (for the new domain)?
- Have you created and uploaded xml sitemap(s) for the new site?
If it is not a new domain:
- Have you created and uploaded xml sitemap(s) for the new version of the site?
- Have you checked the crawl rate setting in the Webmaster Tools account in case it has been manually altered?
These answers will give us a clearer idea of where to start.
Thanks,
Sha

Removing site subdomains from Google search
Hi everyone, I hope you are having a good week? My website has several subdomains that I had shut down some time back and pages on these subdomains are still appearing in the Google search result pages. I want all the URLs from these subdomains to stop appearing in the Google search result pages and I was hoping to see if anyone can help me with this. The subdomains are no longer under my control as I don't have web hosting for these sites (so these subdomain sites just show a default hosting server page). Because of this, I cannot verify these in search console and submit a url/site removal request to Google. In total, there are about 70 pages from these subdomains showing up in Google at the moment and I'm concerned in case these pages have any negative impacts on my SEO. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

404 : UserPreemptionError:
http://www.iainmoran.com/comments/feed/ This is a WordPress site and I've no idea what the best course of action to take. I've done some searching on Google and a couple of sites suggest removing that url from within the robots.txt file. I'm using the Yoast Plugin which apparently creates a robots.txt file, but I can't see any way to edit it. Is there another solution for resolving the 404 error? Many thanks, Iain.0 -
What does the Google Crawler see when crawling this page?
If you look at this page http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/t/49/61/185/730/Batteries. You will see we have a vehicle filter on it. Right now you only see a picture of a battery and some bad text that needs to be updated ( We just hired a copywriter!). Our question is when google crawls this site will thy just see this or will they see all the products that appear after you pick a "machine type" "make" "model" and "year" Any help would be great. Right now we think it just sees this main page how we have set things up; however, we know that the crawler is also crawling some ajax. We just want to be sure of things.

Crawl report showing only 1 crawled page
Hi, I´m really new to this and have just setup some Campaigns. I have setup a Campaign for the root domain: portaldeldiablo.com.uy which returned only 2 crawled pages.. As this page had a 301 redirect from the non-www to the www version, I deleted this Campaign and setup a new one for www.portaldeldiablo.com.uy which returned only 1 crawled page.. I really don´t know why is my website not being crawled..Thanks in advance for your help.

Google Shopping Australia/Google Merchant Centre
So Google Shopping has finally landed in Australia so we've got some work todo hooking it up to our client ecom sites. Right now we have a handful of clients who are setup, the feed is getting in their ok but all products are sitting in "disapproved" status in the dashboard and clicking into each individual product the status says awaiting review. I logged a support ticket with Google to get some more info on this as it doesn't look right to me (ie the disapproved status in dashboard) and got a useless templated answer. Seems that if I switch the country destination to US the products are approved and live in google.com shopping search within the hour. Switch back to Australia and they go back to disapproved status. Anyone having the same issue/seen this before? I simply don't trust Google support and wondering if there's other factors at play here.

How to handle .mobi and normal website for mobile search and regular search
Hi, we have our regular website at jameda.de and a mobile only page at jameda.mobi Users on mobile devices will be automatically redirected to .mobi if they click on a link to jameda.de in the SERPs. What is the best practice to ensure, that Googlebot is indexing jameda.de and Googlebot Mobile is indexing jameda.mobi without duplicate content issues and having Link-Juice benefits on mobile search at the same time? Thanks a lot
