When does Open Site Explorer automatically follow a redirect?
-
Does anyone know what determines when Open Site Explorer will ask if you meant to type in the redirected URL or when it will automatically change the URL to the www version.
example of a site I get asked the redirect question:
http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/comparisons.html?site=checkbook.org
Oh Hey! It looks like that URL redirects to www.checkbook.org/. Would you like to see data for <a class="clickable redirects">that URL instead</a>?
example of a site that redirects automatically:
http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/comparisons.html?site=healthleap.com

For sure! I figured it's a question that has crossed people's minds before (I know it has for me!) so if you see anyone else wondering, I wanted you to have something to point them to
Thanks!

Hey Carin,
Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this for us.
I figured the answer would be something along those lines, but didn't want to leap in with speculation.
Much appreciated,
Sha

Hey! I just saw this post - not sure if you filed a ticket the Customer Service team, but I wanted to see if I can help explain what's going on.
I wanted to make sure I had a full handle of what was going on so I talked with one of the Open Site Explorer developers. So my understanding is it will automatically redirect when Linkscape has identified it as a redirect, but if Open Site Explorer requests data from Linkscape and is returned a 301, then the message alert will show up and Open Site Explorer will show the redirected URL metrics.
Two main reasons this could happen - the redirect wasn't in place when we crawled the page so it wasn't recorded as a redirect. The other reason could be when Open Site Explorer requests Linkscape metrics for a given URL, it does not explicitly say if the URL is a redirect - it only tells us if the searched form is canonical. If the search form does not match the canonical, we assume it redirects to the canonical.
I hope that helps explain a bit, but let me know if you have more questions! The customer service team is awesome and they will be able to help you at as well!
Thanks,
Carin

Hi,
Since this is fundamentally a question about how OSE works, the quickest and best option would be to email the help team direct help [at] seomoz.org. Provide them with the example you have listed here and they will be able to explain it for you.
Hope that helps,
Sha

How do I find out which pages are being indexed on my site and which are not?
Hi, I doing my first technical audit on my site. I am learning how to do an audit as i go and am a lost. I know some page won't be indexed but how do I: 1. Check the site for all pages, both indexed and not indexed 2. Run a report to show indexed pages only (i am presuming i can do this via screaming Frog or webmaster tool) 3. I can do a comparison between the two list and work out which pages are not being indexed. I'll then need to figure out way. I'll cross this bridge once i get to it Thanks Ben

Why do crawlers still track meta keywords if it is not needed in my site?
I have crawled three sites already and it returns more than 5000 errors most of which are MIssing Meta Keywords tags. The sites are on Wordpress and using my SEO plugin I can easily edit the meta keywords of each page, but I am having second thoughts. Well should I?

I am trying to find inbound links for one of my site urls. My question is does SEOMoz able to track all internal links as the Open Site Explorer shows 0 internal links?
It shows 0 internal links when I am pretty sure we have multiple internal links.Should we use absolute urls or relative urls for internal links?

My domain authority is 1, and I am not seeing any links to my site.
I know that there are links to my site, but nothing shows up. My website is www.mullinsgeoffrey.com. I have tried with and without the www. I am using wordpress for this site, but competitors are as well, and there authority seems fine. is there a hidden setting somewhere that is screwing things up?

Open site explorer result discrepancy
Hi all, I'm a little confused - when using open sites explorer to view of link stats on one of our competitors site I get conflicting results. For example - Page Specific Metircs shows the url www.xyz.com has 265 external links. But Root Domain Metrics show they have 22,687 links Yet the total links at the top of the report says Total links 999 Can someone explain why www.xyz.com has 265 external links and the rot domain (which is the same) has 22687 links? I've also run the report on xyz.com rather than www.xyz.com which yielded no results. Thanks in advance

Site not showing data in Open Site Explorer
I have run open site explorer for a couple of sites but I am getting the "no data available for this URL" message. I have read the reasons listed on the error message but none of these apply to the particular sites I am looking for data from. Any thoughts as to why this might be? Thanks, Kwan
