-
My website is www.theradiatorgallery.com
I have been trying to get on 1st page for designer radiators. I am currently ranked 21st just dropped to the 3rd page within the past hour, i was 20th before this. There are some sites that i would think i would rank better than due do i have better on page optimization, higher PA, DA and PR based on seo moz reports. Is there something wrong with my site that i am missing?
the sites i feel i should rank better than are; radsnrails.co.uk, warmrooms.co.uk and a couple others
Any help would be great!
Thanks Guys

Ryan Kent has a much better answer than I regarding keyword cannibalization on this Q&A thread http://www.seomoz.org/q/dilution-of-link-juice. You might read that and see if that helps explain things a bit more for you.

thanks for the advice, I'm trying to work out how i can change this all my external links point to the homepage with the anchor text designer radiators but all my internal point to the category page "designer radiators". I have a link from the designer radiators cat pointing to the homepage. Would i be better off pointing the links to the homepage or cat and if i were to point the links to the homepage would it matter that i have a link in my menu bar with the anchor text designer radiators?
thanks again

Your home page links to http://www.theradiatorgallery.com/designer-radiators.html with the anchor text designer radiators, and that page links to the home page with the anchor text designer radiators. Others can give more information, but I think you need to pick one page that you want to be the focus for designer radiators and focus on that, and not send conflicting signals to the search engines with this type of circular linking.

I see you as Number One out here in Australia.
-
yeah he's definitely on the right site, that is really strange that it shows as result number 2. Fingers crossed he's got the latest rankings and all the other data centers will soon follow
-
thank you very much for your time and advice.
-
Strange...I see the site at #21. Are you sure you were looking at www.theradiatorgallery.com?
-
I would advise you to remove all no follow tags unless the links are for paid for.
Some ideas on links to remove: In the drop down for designer radiators - product manufacturer does not need to expand into many more links - cascading drop downs are generally frowned on anyways. The links in the footer are duplicate to the header - consider condensing the footer links.

thanks for the advice Dan, i'm going to take a look at the keyword difficulty tool now
-
wow number 2, i wish! you think i should remove all no follows even on the faq pages etc? How can i reduce the number of links on the homepage, i don't feel i have any that couldn't be there. I am going to change the H1 tag straight away.
Thanks for the advice

I see your site as number two in the Google rankings for designer radiators, so not sure why you're seeing it in number 21. Try logging in as a different user.
Some suggestions: Get rid of all your nofollow tags on all the links - page sculpting does not work in that fashion anymore. Also, you maybe overlinking on the home page, thereby greatly reducing the page juice of the home page - the nofollow tags do not stop your page juice from being diluted.
Only Desiger Radiators should be in the H1 tag. I would not put the following in a H1 tag.
<h1>Welcome to the Radiator Gallery...h1>

Hi
It appears as if many of the links in your menu are nofollowed at the anchor tag level. That was the first thing I noticed after looking real quick. I don't know that this would have to do with your question, but since its quite important I thought I'd point it out!
To really dig in, I would suggest running a full report with the keyword difficulty tool and have a look at all the metrics. (You can add your URL if not showing in the top 10) That would be a good place to start!

thank you for taking some time to have a quick look for me, would you suggest to start linking for other terms that would bring in sales such as "vertical radiators" or start linking for phrases including designer radiators. I'm trying to get as high for designer radiators as possible as quickly as possible.
To make easier for anyone else to input there opinion i have 82 followed links with the anchor text designer radiators and 2 or less links for any other search term. -
This is just a guess, but I'm wondering if you've overdone it a bit on the anchor text for your link building? At a quick glance, the vast majority of your links are linked with the anchor text "designer radiators". It doesn't look natural.
I'm interested in seeing what others say though.

Does anyone know the linking of hashtags on Wix sites does it negatively or postively impact SEO. It is coming up as an error in site crawls 'Pages with 404 errors' Anyone got any experience please?
Does anyone know the linking of hashtags on Wix sites does it negatively or positively impact SEO. It is coming up as an error in site crawls 'Pages with 404 errors' Anyone got any experience please? For example at the bottom of this blog post https://www.poppyandperle.com/post/face-painting-a-global-language the hashtags are linked, but they don't go to a page, they go to search results of all other blogs using that hashtag. Seems a bit of a strange approach to me.

Content from Another Site
Hi there - I have a client that says they'll be "serving content by retrieving it from another URL using loadHTMLFile, performing some manipulations on it, and then pushing the result to the page using saveHTML()." Just wondering what the SEO implications of this will be. Will search engines be able to crawl the retrieved content? Is there a downside (I'm assuming we'll have some duplicate content issues)? Thanks for the help!!

Are sliders killing our site?
Our website, http://shatterbuggy.com, has what I believe is a systemic issue that stems from the heavy reliance upon the Revolution Slider for Wordpress. I am not an SEO expert and our site has vexed many SEOs in the past. We get feedback regularly from customers (especially those that are not tech savvy) that express gratitude for the ease of use via following an image to image sequence to get to their respective booking. This was our goal when creating the site. Incidentally, in many cases, the only linking from page to page is within the slider itself (clickable image) and there is little to no content. That said, we seems to stumble in SERPS against seemingly inferior competition. For example, we should be ranked in spot 1, 2, or 3 ish for "iPhone repair Minneapolis" but rather we are stuck near spot 15. Any thoughts on whether this is a strategy that may be harming us? If so, would simply creating content on these empty (slider only) pages help? Should we create "static links" that connect to the same places as the slider? Also, is our particular use of the slider creating H1 issues? Thank you all! B.

Does anyone use Ning (Custom social site)?
We just got a custom Ning site developed and the second we moved it to our domain, we lost almost all of our rankings in Google. So, we sign up for a SEOMoz Pro account and within a week we see that we have over 6,000 errors and warnings on our site. Duplicate content, duplicate page titles and pages with too many links. Is anyone using Ning and successfully maintaining 1st page rankings in Google? Seems to me that we need hundreds of fixes and modifications in the code of our site to fix all of these errors and get Google to take our penalizations off.

Crawling a subfolder with a dev site
I am trying to set up a campaign where I am crawling a subfolder of our main site where I have dev version of the new site. However, even though the new site resolves and I have included the full resolving URL but the crawl results come back saying that only one page has been crawled. The site has had a protected block on it for a period of time but this has now been removed. Any ideas? Thanks Nick

Mobile site rank on Google S.E. instead of desktop site.
Hello, all SEOers~ Today, I would like to hear your opinion regarding on Mobile site and duplicate contents issue. I have a mobile version of our website that is hosted on a subdomain (m instead www). Site is targeting UK and Its essentially the same content, formatted differently. So every URL on www exists also at the "m" subdomain and is identical content. (there are some different contents, yet I could say about 90% or more contents are same) Recently I've noticed that search results are showing links to our mobile site instead of the desktop site. (Google UK) I have a sitemap.xml for both sites, the mobile sitemap defined as follows: I didn't block googlebot from mobile site and also didn't block googlebot-mobile from desktop site. I read and watched Google webmaster tool forum and related video from Matt Cutts. I found many opinion that there is possibility which cause duplicate contents issue and I should do one of followings. 1. Block googlebot from mobile site. 2. Use canonical Tag on mobile site which points to desktop site. 3. Create and develop different contents (needless to say...) Do you think duplicate contents issue caused my mobile site rank on S.E. instead of my desktop site? also Do you think those method will help to show my desktop site on S.E.? I was wondering that I have multi-country sites which is same site format as I mentioned above. However, my other country sites are totally doing fine on Google. Only difference that I found is my other country sites have different Title & Meta Tag comparing to desktop site, but my UK mobile site has same Title & Meta Tag comparing to desktop. Do you think this also has something to do with current problem? Please people~! Feel free to make some comments and share your opinion. Thanks for reading my long long explanation.

Local business with multiple sites
I'm auditing a local business' sites (a spa) and I wanted to run my recommendations by everyone. There are 3 sites: www.sitename1.com -- main store location, used for Google Places listing #1 www.sitename2.com -- 2nd store location, used for Google Places listing #2 www.sitename3.com -- used for product sales for both locations Sitename1.com has the most ranking power. I'm going to recommend that they move sitename2.com and sitename3.com to sitename1.com as subfolders, 301 redirecting each page to the corresponding page on sitename1.com/subfolder. Google Places listing #2 would be changed from www.sitename2.com to www.sitename.com/location2. Any risks or problems with this strategy anyone can see?
