Research for "love quotes"
-
I'm doing some research for the term "love quotes"
I'm trying to understand why following URL is ranking so high
quote-monster.com/category/love-quotes/
it only has one link?
Any advise would be appreciated.

No problem
From what I have heard, there is a period of time where you can get a really good rise in rankings from fast backlinking, which might last 30-90 days. But then it will start to regress if a more natural and diverse backlink portfolio is not developed. I believe they allow this window of time to discourage a competitor sabotaging you with a bunch of bad links. Just my own theory though.

Great, thanks mate. Making sense now
I thought Google would prevent against this sort quick rising?

Yes, check it out, it appears OSE has not caught up. That site has a lot of links and they are all recent, see the few screenshots from Majestic SEO.
So what bootleg is saying below is to use some searches in Google or other tools like Majestic to find the location of the backlinks, until OSE catches up.

I used opensite explorer.

Thanks Dan. I ran a full report and the only metric this site wins on is "mT/mR"
Can you have a quick look at the full report and comment?

Hi Mark
Check out my answer from this previous question. It explains how to use the SERP analysis tool and get data as to why a website ranks where it does.

Where did you find out that it only has one link? The link: operator from Google doesn't return the exact number ... or even a useful number.
But your "research" obviously wasn't too exhaustive, just try to enter the URL on google and it'll return more than one link...

How handle pages with "read more" text query strings?
My site has hundreds of keyword content landing pages that contain one or two sections of "read more" text that work by calling the page and changing a ChangeReadMore variable. This causes the page to currently get indexed 5 times (see examples below plus two more with anchor tag set to #sectionReadMore2 This causes Google to include the first version of the page which is the canonical version and exclude the other 4 versions of the page. Google search console says my site has 4.93K valid pages and 13.8K excluded pages. My questions are: 1. Does having a lot of excluded pages which are all copies of included pages hurt my domain authority or otherwise hurt my SEO efforts? 2. Should I add a rel="nofollow" attribute to the read more link? If I do this will Google reduce the number of excluded pages? 3. Should I instead add logic so the canonical tag displays the exact URL each time the page re-displays in another readmore mode? I assume this would increase my "included pages" and decrease the number of "excluded pages". Would this somehow help my SEO efforts? How do I "undo" or remove a Google Search Console change of address?
I have a client that set a change of address in Google Search Console where they informed Google that their preferred domain was a subdomain, and now they want Google to also consider their base domain (without the change of address). How do I get the change of address in Google search console removed?

"Items 1 - 24 of 75" Appearing in Meta Description - How Do I Remove It?
Hey guys, I've noticed that the item count is appearing at the beginning of the meta description for our brand pages, e.g. "Items 1 - 24 of 75 -". The issue I have with this is that it reduces the character limit (due to truncation), consequently leaving me with little room to play with to include more useful information. Is there a way to remove this? Cheers, A

"Standout" tag and "Original content" tags - what's the latest?
In November 2010 Google introduced the "standout tag" http://support.google.com/news/publisher/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=191283 I can't find any articles/blog posts/etc in google after that date, but its use was suggested in a google forum today to help with original content issues. Has anyone used them? Does anyone know what's the latest with them? Are they worth trying for SEO? Is there a possible SEO penalty for using them? Thanks, Jean

Looking for sites hit by Penguin for research
I'm doing some link profile analysis and need examples of sites hit by Penguin (not Panda). If you have a site that was hit and are willing to share, please PM me: Your site homepage URL Main keyword(s) you lost rankings for (preferably keywords your homepage was ranked for but no longer is) I will keep your information strictly confidential and will not share it. (I will publish the results of my findings, but will not mention any of the sites used for research.) Thanks.

How to block "print" pages from indexing
I have a fairly large FAQ section and every article has a "print" button. Unfortunately, this is creating a page for every article which is muddying up the index - especially on my own site using Google Custom Search. Can you recommend a way to block this from happening? Example Article: http://www.knottyboy.com/lore/idx.php/11/183/Maintenance-of-Mature-Locks-6-months-/article/How-do-I-get-sand-out-of-my-dreads.html Example "Print" page: http://www.knottyboy.com/lore/article.php?id=052&action=print

What research needs to be done prior to purchasing an old domain?
I'm planning on purchasing an old domain. I'd like to get an idea whether or not any "shadyness" was going on with the domain over the years. It's still indexed in google. I "whois'd" it, ran it through open site explorer, and did a "link:" search. Anything else you would recommend for researching this domain?
