How to get a link on Twitter box in Huffington Post?
-
Hey guys, got a question about the Huffington Post and its Twitter widget - see screenshot attached
HuffPo seems to be aggregating links somehow under the "Top links on this topic" heading within the Twitter widget. At first I thought this was an official Twitter wdget; http://twitter.com/about/resources/widgets
However, I can't find it on Twitter's site and I'm starting to think it's a custom widget possibly developed by HuffPo themselves.
My question is how do I get my site to rank under their "Top links"? Is it feeding on Twitter presence or is it feeding from Google News or through something else?
Many thanks in advance for any light shed on this topic

Any feedback from HuffPost on that?

Thanks Ryan! I trawled through their source code too and I've got the feeling it's bespoke, so as you suggested I'll contact HuffPo and see if they'll communicate with me... although I'm not holding my breath!
Thanks again Ryan!

I have no experience with the Twitter Anywhere software. I simply looked at the site's source code, saw the reference to the software and looked it up. My suggestion is to check the vendor's site and ask them directly about their software and how it works.
A complete guess would be they identify top tweets based on certain criteria such as tweets with the most retweets.

Thanks a lot Ryan! Have checked out Twitter Anywhere but it looks like it's a widget for letting users send Tweets from within a third party website? Is there another component to it that actually shows tweets and "top links"
And with regards to the tweets, it's actually the content under the "Top links on this topic" that I'm trying to figure out - how are the links under that heading determined?
-
The Huffington site uses a twitter javascript snippet called Twitter Anywhere. You can learn more about it here: https://dev.twitter.com/docs/anywhere/welcome
The topic in this case is a search for "Jennifer Lopez". The traffic is so insanely high that even if you appeared in the block, it is highly unlikely your tweet would be present during a crawl. The current block shows 1 tweet from 2 days ago, 1 from 1 day ago, 1 from 12 hours ago, and the rest are under 3 minutes old.
J-Lo is very hot right now and seems to be receiving over 20 tweets per minute. The block only holds a set number of tweets so they are flying in and out very fast. This page is likely indexed and reindexed very quickly so even if your tweet was captured on a crawl, it would likely be gone very fast.

Sorry Ryan, I should've included a URL, here's the one from the example in my screenshot
-
I checked the site's front page and a category page and did not see the widget. Can you offer a URL to a page with the widget?
Twitter does have top tweets based on trending volume, and my guess is that's what is being displayed. I would also imagine these are national or international categories as twitter can display top tweets for a given area.

Manual submission vs automated submission to social bookmarking sites for blog posts
Howdy Mozzers! Say we're creating great content on our blog and would like this content to be seen and shared by as many people possible. Should we submit our blog posts manually to social book marking sites or use an automated service like Only Wire? The advantage of using automation is obvious, saves time on submission. Are there disadvantages? Is google bot going to raise an eyebrow and give us a dirty look? Cheers! MozAddict

Google+, Link from My Site to Author's Google+ Page or to Company Google+
Recently I verified authorship for my Website. So the image from my personal Google+ account appears in search results. My website has a Google+ social media button. Should the link point to my corporate Google+ account or to my personal Google+ account? What is more credible from Google's point of view? What are best practices for this issue? Look forward to hearing from the MOZ community. THANKS!!!

Contests for link builing?
I had read a great blog post somewhere a couple weeks ago that had some great tips and resources on how to best run a contest (like on FB) and get good links. Had mentioned specific tools and techniques to use. Unfortunately I can not for the life of me remember where I saw this at. Did anyone happen to read this and have the link the post by chance? Thanks for any help! Ron

Just how popular are some #Twitter Groups
Good Morning from 14 degrees C wetherby UK 🙂 As i sat on my grassy knoll puffing on a pipe overlooking the English country Land I wondered... just how do you measure the volume of users using hash tag twitter groups.... or put another way imagine you say to a client "Ok one idea is to get this friday meal deal promoted on #FF" The client then says... "So how many twitter users use the #FF" It a blunt but legit question & one I couldnt answer right now. So my question is please... "Is there a tool to measure frequency of use with regards to twitter hash tag groups" Thanks in advance 🙂

Why would Google+ send posts as 'messages' to people outside of your circles?
A day ago I uploaded a photo of a US Navy ship mooring at Bell Harbor marina, which is across from my office (near the conference center site of SMX Advanced Seattle). A rude comment was posted by someone from Germany accusing me of sending this to them personally, offended because he's anti-military: "Don't spam people pal." I blocked him. So, since it was uploaded to my public stream and shared to my circles, I have no explanation as to how this could happen. If someone in my circles shared it to him, I suppose it could look like I sent it to him, but I haven't seen that happen before. Anyone else see behavior like this? UPDATE: because this person was within one of the circles to whom I shared this photo, he received a notification that I'd shared it "directly" with him. See comment below.

Does promoting a new page on twitter/facebook help it get indexed faster?
I know this probably won't matter much to people who get crawled on a regular basis, but for those of us who don't, does promoting a new page on social media help it get indexed faster with google? My site rarely gets crawled, but I've recently been adding new content. When I add new content I started to promote it on facebook/twitter and I do get minimal traffic from it. I noticed that a couple of the pages seem to be indexing quicker than pages normally do for me, although I'm not sure if it's because I recently migrated to WP or what..? I know T/FB are no follow sites, but is there a chance that promoting a page may contribute to the pages getting indexed? Thanks for any insight you can shed on the matter. It's more for curiosities sake than anything else. Pete S.

Is Anybody Outside of SEO Industry Getting ROI from Google+ ?? Tell the truth!
I have been watching Google+ and see lots of SEOs sharing ideas and enjoying their circles. However, I have not seen anything outside of the webmaster community that I would hold up as an example of business engagement - and certainly nothing that seems to be producing a good ROI for a business. It seems to me that everyone outside of the webmaster community is on FaceBook and doesn't give a hoot about Google+. And, since FaceBook has the massive amount of people why should I open an outpost in the poorly populated Google+? I am not looking for Google+ evangelist answers. Just looking to hear if anybody anywhere has found Google+ to be a better use of their time than FaceBook and working on your website. I do believe that using Google+ as an author verification platform is a good use of your time if you have valuable content - mainly because it helps your visibility in the SERPs. Beyond that I am looking for validation. Anybody want to point to something good happening or telling a success story? Thanks!
