KB's are great for user generated content (just look at this one). If it was open to all just imagine how many links it would be attracting!!

Obviously your KB would be for SEO benefits, and therefore the best method for gaining from it would be to host it on the clients domain in a sub folder. Most open source CMS's can easily be modified into Knowledge bases with relative little ease - one thing I should recommend is heavy moderation on all posts to ensure that no incorrect answers or spam goes live, as this would make their business look poor.

There are so many site, tools and 'solutions' like this on the web nowadays - and too many people seem to be buying into them.

The only true way to gain good quality links is though EARNING THEM. Instead of spending time indexing poor quality links via RSS feeds and such like, spend your time creating something link worthy - something people will want to link to, such as the Social Media Guide. It ticks all of the boxes, it's from an authorative source, includes badges (for link backs), and it's easy to syndicate.

Whatever your niche is, someone somewhere is looking for a review, a buying guide, or a 101 ways to... list. I know I'd personally spend my time following these methods.

@Shehzad - This isn't meant to be aimed at you in particular! This is just my strong recommendation to all employing these tactics to swap to more natural SEO

You're correct in thinking no link juice can be passed through an iframe. You could however have a link immediately before or after it in the method you mentioned, and then give your partners the whole HTML including that link.

Nothing at all, one thing though, don't nofollow the link, just use the meta noindex attribute on that individual page.

Spend some money and get an expert involved in creating this page with you, as PPC landing page optimization is an important part of running an online marketing compaign

Check out the campaign manager, add some keywords to each and check out the SEO scorecards. The campaign manager is for me, the main reason for having SEOMoz membership. Within in you can get reports on your on page SEO efforts (and advice on how to fix it) as well as monitor your off page SEO/Linkbuilding efforts.

You can also do in depth analysis on your competitors domains, allowing you to see where their best links come from - allowing you to get the same link to propel you to the top!!

The best way of finding out what's on offer is to just have a look around for yourself, you can't go wrong!!

Jarrett, the canonical tag you have in place will suffice. I'd suggest either to have users moving between the sites in the future or to modify your CMS to auto add the canonical tag in any future posts. It might be worth speaking to your syndication partners and changing your API to only show an excerpt with a link back to your site. This will also eliminate the duplicate issues and allow more of your pages to rank. It's highly unlikely for you to get your larger media partners to add a rel=canonical to your posts on their site as they simply don't need to, as they are more likely getting the content indexed.

Maybe it could be a feature where Users could add and then vote up and down the directory to keep it fresh, relevant and up to date. Obviously you'd have to implement something to stop spammers...

You can't really bring PPC into this stat of your as it will depend entirely on how much you are spending on adwords.

I can say for sure that if you're sitting #1 organically, and #3 on paid, with a Google Places page built in, that you will receive a good number of hits

If these pages have inbound links pointing to them, then combining this may give it a little kick up the rankings. Think to yourself why you'd want to include these pages under only one page. Are they not strong enough on their own? Do they have very little content etc.

If so, then it would be an idea to combine them, and the others should be 301 directed (which will preserve 90-99% link juice) - Source: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/About

This will also mean that you have created pages with 3x as much content on them, which will stand up to higher competition and attract more long tail searches if done well.

We're creating a new website for a client, and we have already started link building to the pages, including some deep landing pages.

Currently the site is blocked from being indexed - we're just concerned that there may be issues when we launch the site as there will be a lot of links pointing towards the pages from day 1.

Are we ok to continue link building?

Yes MonaVie as Steve Ollington has said, once it's realised that the two are one of the same, then there is no risk of penalty!

Essentially to this point only low-medium quality links. Forum, blog, 'designed by...' site wide links and a couple of articles.

As Dunamis has said, these things sometimes happen for various reasons (reasons that Google no doubt will never disclose). Keep checking on it manually and keep an eye on it. If the problem doesn't sort itself out within the next couple of days, then go through your recent link acquisitions to try to find the cause!

The only links you want to be paying for are advertising ones if that's the route you're taking. If your tool is equally as good then they'll usually be more than happy to link to it!

Yeah we've got our real list of links at the ready for launch, just laying some ground work lower quality stuff to diversify the link profile.

The most simple method of doing this is by adding into your template file where you'd like the first 40 words followed by a More >> link.

This can also be added into the loop, for example on an archive page. If you need to display the excerpt on a home page, or anywhere out of the loop, this should be combined with the WP_Query class to call posts from the WP DB.

The link juice always flows to the original page, not to the new page as the user follows the 302 redirect. Therefore if the 302 is removed, then the juice stops back a the old page as it always has. I can't see what your genuine reason for this might be, however this would be the best course of action for you.

Here is an excerpt of some OSE about page:

301s, 302s, and Meta Refreshes301s, 302s and meta refreshes are all ways of redirecting one URL to a different URL.301 refers to the HTTP Status Code for this type of redirect. A 301 Redirect is a permanent redirect and passed between 90-99% of link juice (Ranking Power)302 also refers to the HTTP Status Code for this type of redirect. A 302 Redirect is a temporary redirect and passes 0% of link juice (Ranking Power). This is bad for SEO.Meta refreshes are a different type of redirect that is executed on the page level rather than the server level (There are usually slower and not recommended). They are most commonly associated with a 5 second count down with text "If you are not redirected in 5 seconds, click here". Meta refreshes do pass some link juice but are not recommended as an SEO tactic due to usability and juice passing

It is against Google TOS to ask for a link, so the best way to do this, as Dejan SEO have said is to cause a reason to link back to the competition page o the home page.

There are various methods of this, and the best has been mentioned - include a code snippet on your contest page, perhaps with a blog footer like so:

This post was for a competition hosted by Company Name, promoting Product. Visit their website for more details on this competition

(With links in obviously). This will trick a lot of people into thinking that it is necessary to include that footer following their post to keep their entry legitimate, and will obviously be gaining you the contextual link you're after, to multiple pages if you'd like.

The other method is via profile badges, or a specific badge for that competition. Encourage users to add your badges to their sites/blogs/individual posts, and make it as easy to do so as possible.

One final thing, make sure you give out badges to the finalists, again, linking to your pages. If they're winning something they'll feel obliged to use the badge!

I have to agree with Alex in some extent too, so his is an actual answer. OSE does not have an index as large as Google/Yahoo's. If you're looking for a slightly more accurate up to date listing of your links, check out Yahoo Site Explorer.

If the links are remaining up (assuming you've built links that wont get removes) they will show up in OSE eventually, however it may take a while for lesser known domains to appear in OSE's index. Try looking in OSE at your competitors backlinks and going after those, that way when it does re-index OSE, at least you'll be able to see that .
