Does anyone have any first hand experience or must have recommendations around ATG & Endeca integration? I am somewhat familiar with ATG and the Oracle ATG guide, but if anyone has any specific SEO considerations they'd like to share? i.e. jumpservlet and SEO URLs

Thanks for that answer!  Yes, long scrolling i.e. all content on one page, vs infinite which is what Adam mentions in his post. I did read that post, and completely understood it, but I haven't seen anything on the actual topic of "long scroll vs infinite" and therefore I was unaware there was any difference.

Can anyone please confirm for me the difference if any, between site design that incorporates Long Scrolling and Infinite Scroll?

I was told (by an unnamed source) these were different designs and that "long scrolling" is better for SEO . However, in all my research I am unable to prove there is any difference between the two. I understand Infinite scroll may include Ajax, but does that mean Long Scrolling does not?

If anyone has any references or can supply any further education here, I'd appreciate it!

Ok so long time in getting back to this, but here's what the client was actually referring to and found a good post on optimization around the new approach. Yes, very awesome Whiteboard Friday - and I'd say Owned Media, while is correct is lost on most people as to what exactly that covers. I welcome a change from the "SEO" since so many we work with chalk that up to "fixing titles, and Meta Descriptions", though Internet Marketing Executive or Manager covers it all I think.

My client is planning on integrating progressive loading into their main product level pages (those pages most important to conversions and revenue).

I am not skilled on "progressive laoding" but was told this is what Facebook does. Currently, the site's pages are tabbed and use Ajax. Is there any negative impact by changing this up by including progressive loading?

If anyone can help me understand what this is and how it might impact a site from an SEO perspective, please let me know.

Yes, I do use webmaster tools, but do not have the vanity URL setup,just the flagship site. The real resolution does have to do with including a 301 redirect, which the IT team wasn't or isn't able to include for reasons still not clear to me.

Just goes to show how really important the server side redirect has always been!

Thanks for your expert perspective Dana! I was looking for someone to balance out or provide the feedback I have been trying to provide all this time. I also agree with checking into OSE, and of course it provides further evidence as to why we can't just deindex the vanity, since its built up a ton of SEO equity.

I have a client's site that is a vanity URL, i.e. www.example.com, that is setup as a meta refresh to the client's flagship site: www22.example.com, however we have been seeing Google include the Vanity URL in the index, in some cases ahead of the flagship site. What we'd like to do is to de-index that vanity URL. We have included a no-index meta tag to the vanity URL, however we noticed within 24 hours, actually less, the flagship site also went away as well. When we removed the noindex, both vanity and flagship sites came back.

We noticed in Google Webmaster that the flagship site's robots.txt file was corrupt and was also in need of fixing, and we are in process of fixing that -

Question: Is there a way to noindex vanity URL and NOT flagship site? Was it due to meta refresh redirect that the noindex moved out the flagship as well? Was it maybe due to my conducting a google fetch and then submitting the flagship home page that the site reappeared? The robots.txt is still not corrected, so we don't believe that's tied in here.

To add to the additional complexity, the client is UNABLE to employ a 301 redirect, which was what I recommended initially.

Anyone have any thoughts at all, MUCH appreciated!

To answer your question:

I'd have no problem building specific pages for these derivative keyword groups, however, I'm very concerned how this would effect my site from a user experience perspective

You wouldn't know truly, unless you included some sort of a/b testing, which would be helpful to your visitors. I would recommend creating category groupings of editing, i.e. "paper editing" might include "resume editing", whereas "essay editing" might include child pages such as name of the visitor group your targeting, if your targeting college students who need essay editing, then you might target that group navigationally with "college students" and then include child pages that would be most relevant to them underneath, i.e. "college essays" etc.

Of course another good indicator is to see in Google search, what other pages appear for the keywords your trying to optimize for, do those results reflect the most relevant search results for your pages? Would it make sense to have your pages appear in those search results?  Ultimately, I would test out what works for your audience and go with those. If you need a quicker answer, rather than waiting months for site logs, if you have some funding, try an Adwords account and see how those keywords convert.

So I understand you correctly, you are trying to expand into the US from the UK, but your looking to expand, and not replace your UK site? If you are interested in a "US" presence, then I would establish a .com domain for that, while keeping your .co.uk, which would only be specific to your UK audience. Essentially, .com is seen as "US" largely, so having that .com would help your new US visitation.

I would never eliminate your .co.uk, as that is specific to your visitors and local search engines, as belonging to .co.uk regionally.

I've had lots of global experiences, and always find to keep each country owning their own specific ccTLD, rather than sharing.

Yes, I would absolutely move UK to .co.uk and keep .com for US only. That would be the best. The problem I've found with including /us/ in a directory is that Google and really visitors alike, won't realize that folder named "us" actually means its specific to US. The best way is to separate the two countries with their own ccTLD.
