RE: Can the website pages have the site name like Title of the page | Sitename.com
No, it shouldn't be a problem. If anything, it should make your titles more targeted

RE: Dealing with a 404
Hi Iain.
You could just fix the error on the www.datasat.com/mining/tetra-networks-for-mining.html page. If you'd like, you could also do a 301 from http://www.datasat.com/tetra/white-paper.htmlWEhjdAfgkh to http://www.datasat.com/tetra/white-paper.html, but I don't think there's really any need for that.

RE: Dealing with a 404
Hi!
I don't think that is the case in this occasion, as there is actually an A-tag (with just "." as anchor text) at the page www.datasat.com/mining/tetra-networks-for-mining.html pointing towards http://www.datasat.com/tetra/white-paper.htmlWEhjdAfgkh (look in page source at line number 63)
Removing that link would really fix the whole issue...

RE: Are organic search visitors always seen as organic in origin, even if their return to the site is direct?
Yes, according to Google Analytics IQ curriculum (see https://www.google.com/analytics/iq.html, lesson 3 about traffic sources), direct traffic will not override previous campaign sources - at least for conversion attribution.
You could also have a look at the reports "Assisted conversions" + "Top Conversion paths" in the Conversions > Multi-channel Funnels section in Google Analytics to get more information.
Hope this helps!

RE: Dealing with a 404
Hi!
OpenSiteExplorer shows an inbound link from www.datasat.com/mining/tetra-networks-for-mining.html. I looked at the page source, and it contains an empty link towards this particular page right after the correct link to your whitepaper.

RE: Webmaster tools crawl errors
Hi!
Have you verified that there is a proper 301 redirect from the old URL's? If, for example, there is a 302 instead, I wouldn't be surprised if Google kept the old info in the index, as you have sort of said "I'll be back soon at this old address, just wait a minute (or year)".
Do you have an example URL for us that we could take a look at?

RE: Moz report says missing info but it appears to be there
Hi Chad.
Do you have a URL we could take a look at to see if we spot any problems?

RE: Google Analytics
Hi!
Yes, it is possible to edit a goal after i has been set up.

RE: Missing new pages in Search
Hi!
Instead of blocking the old site.com/category/categoryname by robots.txt you should do a 301 redirect to site.com/categoryname. That way you will get the new pages indexed faster, and keep traffic from all the old links etc.
Hope this helps

RE: Google analytcics sub domain dot or not?
Hi!
According to the current setup in Google Analytics, you don't need the extra ".", but I don't think you'll get an error if it is present. As far as I can tell, they've been going a bit back an forth about this. You can get the proper code for your intended setup in Google Analytics at Admin > Property > Tracking Info.
Hope this helps :)Anders

RE: Meta tags - are they case sensitive?
Hi!
According to http://www.w3.org/TR/html-markup/documents.html#case-insensitivity HTML tags are not case sensitive, but it could be that your tracker software is looking for all lowercase, as this is considered good coding practice. Is it possible to configure in the tracking tool, perhaps?

RE: Duplicate content in crawl despite canonical
Hi!
I found the following info in the "help" section:
**I use the rel=****"**canonical" tag correctly. Why did I get a notice? If the canonical tag points to a different URL, engines will not count this page as the reference resource and thus, it won't have an opportunity to rank. We include the notice so you can make sure you're targeting the right page.
Is there any way to ignore or exclude certain errors or issues?
Currently there isn't a way to do this, but we plan to add this in a future version of the application.Looks like it is safe to ignore this, as long as you have your rel="canonical" setup correctly. (I have the same issue btw...)

RE: Analytics - content performance
Hello again.
Would it be easier to just exclude the ones you don't want? That way, you could just remove a few pages from the query if that is easier.
alternatively, you could tweak the GA tracking code, and add a custom variable for those pages you want to track together. See https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/gaTrackingCustomVariables?hl=no#pageLevel
The code could be something like:
_gaq.push(['_setCustomVar', 1, // This custom var is set to slot #1\. Required parameter. 'Resort guide', // Your grouping name. Required parameter. 'Specific page title', // Sets the value of "Resort guide" to "Specific page title" for this particular article. Required parameter. 3 // Sets the scope to page-level. Optional parameter, but you should have it in this case ]); Good luck! Anders

RE: Increased 404 and Blocked URL Notifications in Webmaster Tools
Hi!
As Lynn points out, there could be some issues in regards to your perceived uptime. Do you see a lot of 404 errors reported in Analytics as well? If this is the case, perhaps your hosting provider (or IT department) should have a look at this?
Also, adding the redirects seems like a good idea, as Google couold be reindexing some sites/pages linking to the old, deleted URL's.
Do you have a custom crawl frequency set up in Google Webmaster Tools? It's worth looking into if Googlebot is slowing down your site.
Good luck.Anders

RE: Analytics - content performance
Hi!
Have you tried taking a full content report, and just exclude the parts of the site you don't need. Perhaps that would be easier than adding all the sections/pages you do need.
Or, if possible, add a special keyword ("resort guide"/"holiday guide") to the page title, unless that messes up something else for you (SEO etc...). That way you could create a content report for all pages with added keyword in the page title.
Hope this helps,Anders

RE: Is using dots in URL path really a problem?
Hi!
As far as I know, this really isn't a huge problem (could be mistaken). I guess it depends...
In regards to readability, I prefer using dashes (-), as they tend to be easier to read. Underscores may be mistaken for a space). Here's what Matt Cutts had to say about this some years ago: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/whitehat-seo-tips-for-bloggers/ (and http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/dashes-vs-underscores/)
I believe I have read that Google and other search engines read URLs like this when looking for semantic meanings:
- /this-is-part-of-a-website-address = this is part of a website address
- /this_is_part_of_a_website_address = thisispartofawebsiteaddress
At least that used to be the case...It could be changed now.
In your example, I would not obsess too much about it, as it gives perfect semantic meaning. Have you considered removing special characters, instead of replacing them with a "-" ?
Hope this helps.

RE: Google Analytics VS target="_blank" internal links: How much wrong is it?
Hi!
It really shouldn't be a problem if the tracking code is set up correct. If this is the same site as you have on your profile, it appears as if the _utmz cookie is set correctly when navigating from a search page to one of the apartment pages.
But is it the source you are trying to find, or is it the keyword used in the search for the given apartment? Is site search enabled and configured in your GA account?
Good luck, hope this helps.

RE: How do I 301 redirect a number of pages to one page
Strange.
How about something like this:
RewriteRule ^folder_B/(.*)$ /folder_A/index.php [R=301,L]I'm not an expert in RegEx or Rewrite rules, so there could be som errors in there
Good luck!

RE: How do I 301 redirect a number of pages to one page
Hi Nima.
Is this perhaps possible to do with a RedirectMatch? Something like:
RedirectMatch 301 /folder_A/folder_B/(.*) /folder_A/index.php -
RE: Sitemap with links and images together
Hi Douglas!
According to http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2010/06/sitemaps-one-file-many-content-types.html this should not be a problem in itself, but it seems to me that you should also include what kind of sitemap you have in place. You should define the <urlset xmlns="">in your file. Maybe that would do the trick?</urlset>
Best regards,
Anders

RE: Does domain registrar location (still?) play a role in SEO
Thank you for your reply Gianluca.
Actually, the domain is hosted in Norway (server located in Norway), but the registrar is outside of Norway. That is why it think this was a difficult question So when referring to te article from SEJ, I was wondering if the location of the registrar itself (not where the domain was hosted) was an issue
But it actually did help me Thanks!!

Does domain registrar location (still?) play a role in SEO
I was wondering if the location of our domain registrar still play a role in SEO. The thing is that one of our domains are registered with a registrar in another country. It is a national TLD (.no). Could this have any influence on our rankings?
The reason for asking is that i came across this article at Search Engine Journal:
http://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-rankings-influenced-by-server-domain-registrar-and-geographic-location/5963/ saying: "
Hosting is not the only variable Google may look at when determining search relevance for a site, here is a look at hosting, domain registrar information and geographic location."I was wondering if what is said here, still is valid (article is from 2007).
Hope you guys can help me out.
