Reducing footer links is certainly a good idea. Using lots of footer links is an outdated SEO Technique. Yes, adding text links is really a good and recommended thought!

It's not gonna affect your rankings. You can give links from other navigations like sidebar. If you are redesigning website, you must see this video of Rand: http://moz.com/blog/what-should-i-put-on-the-homepage-whiteboard-friday. It will help for sure!

I think We just need to be smart in guest blogging.

You don't need to Post your Links in the author area going forward and just add links in the body of Articles and If We add links to some other sources then It will be even Good.

Just Make it Look Natural with images, links to other creditable sources thats all.

I have been Noticing it with one of my clients Website in Australia Where Google Keep changing Rankings URL's. Some day inner page and some day homepage back.

I think that Now We are only building branded Anchor text links So Google is Taking the best optimized page to rank for a Search term itself.. Just my thought.

This is good idea if implemented properly! You need to check few things before redirecting this domain

• Verify that there is not Manual Penalty to this domain (Verify it through Google Webmaster Tool )
• Check the back-links of domain if any. It might be victim of Penguin 2 & 2.1 (You can use ahref.com or Moz Explorer)

Redirecting this domain without above verifications could lead to further trouble!

Secondly, I think Its Not Possible because You Need/Want Google Crawlers to Follow them So other 3rd party crawlers will excess them.

I think Its a Good idea to disavow first and then Go after the Link removal thing.

I have a domain which got penguin penalty , We have Spent alot of time in removing links and Still have domains where links can not be deleted duw to certain issues So Atlast We have to disavow them.

So I would advise you to Disavow all of the bad backlinks first and then spend time in removing them.

Also, As Matt said above, It is impossible to recover domain from penguin in around 3 weeks Time.

You my better to start a New domain.
