Another check I'll usually do is plug the url that I get from Open Site Explorer and plug it into Google to see if it's indexed.

So even if I do get a link from this directory, it's probably not going to carry much weight if any at all.

Think I'll skip it.

So just forget directories all together? Even SEOmoz offers a list of web directories to consider.

Directories isn't my only strategy put just a small piece of it.

I also just read an article that supports using open site explorer and get the same links that your competitors have.

I'm going through one of my competitors links and of course I'm coming across some directories. Just wondering what you might look for in a quality directory.

I'm looking at one right now called SoMuch.com and it appears to be a quality directory but then I look down at the footer and I see "Search Engine Friendly Free Link Directory". The domain authority is 80.

I think I may have discovered the issue. In my sidebar.php template I'm constructing navigational links like this:

[Page Name](<?php bloginfo('template_url'); ?>/page-name/)

I think I might need to change 'template_url' to 'site_url'.

So I'm trying to find a bunch of redirects that SeoMoz is reporting that were created by Wordpress but I can't seem to find.

I'm finding a bunch of redirects FROM pages like this:

www.mysite.com/wp-content/themes/mimbo/page-name.com

redirecting to

www.mysite.com/page-name.com

Anybody have any idea how I can track down the offending page that has a link to that url. I took a look at my templates and content with the pages and can't seem to find anything that would create it.

No using a Linux with Apache. I think you can do it with php but I'm not sure how it would work with wordpress. I think I'll just have to go through and 301 everything.

It would be nice if Google would come up with a protocol so redirects could be avoided.

Thanks George, I've been using Wordpress for awhile on new sites but this would be the first time that I'm moving an older site into a CMS (Wordpress). I also have another site that I will be moving soon.

That brings up anther question. Is it possible to add .html or .htm to pages in wordpress? Kind of faking it I guess.

I'm getting ready to move a site into Wordpress. The current or old site is built with static html pages.

My question is, how should I handle Google with these old pages. Should I 301 redirect from each old page to the new? Or is there a better way to handle it?
