Hi Everyone, I have a very specific SEO question. I am doing a site audit and one of the crawl reports is showing tons of 404's for the "smartphone" bot and with very recent crawl dates. If our website is responsive, and we do not have a mobile version of the website I do not understand why the desktop report version has tons of 404's and yet the smartphone does not. I think I am not understanding something conceptually. I think it has something to do with this little message in the Mobile crawl report. "Errors that occurred only when your site was crawled by Googlebot (errors didn't appear for desktop)." If I understand correctly, the "smartphone" report will only show URL's that are not on the desktop report. Is this correct?

Hi Everyone, I am participating in the development of a marketplace website where the main channel will be traffic via SEO. We have encountered the directories (levels) vs filters situation. 1. Does everyone still agree that if we have too many levels, authority is loss as you do down through the levels? Does everyone agree that there should be a max of 3 levels and never 4. Example 1 www.domain.com/level1/level2/level3 vs www.domain.com/level1 In theory, the content on "level 3" will have a lower DA than the content on "level1". 2. Does everyone agree that for enterprise SEO (huge marketplace websites) filters are a better idea than levels? Example 2 www.domain.com/level1/level2/level3 vs www.domain.com/filter-option1 In theory, the content on "level 3" will have a lower DA than the content on "filter-option1". Hi Everyone, I have the following website I am trying to SEO www.forcor.com.ar. As usual, the client decided to SEO the website after it was made by a developer that is not specialized in SEO. I am having the following issue. Google is not picking up the title I defined for the homepage. I have changed it multiple times and Google continues to take the title that was defined when the website was launched which was about 6 months ago. I also tried to verify if the title is being defined by some other website and so far I do not find any evidence that supports this. This is the title seen in the SERP (GOOGLE) as of 6 months ago - Forcor S.A: Repuestos Ford - Concesionario Oficial de Ford This is the one that is programmed via Yoast - <title>Repuestos Ford - Concesionario Oficial de Ford - Forcor S.A</title> The funny thing is that Google is picking up the correct Meta Description. Any suggestions on how to get Google to pick up the programmed title??? Another interesting fact is that Yahoo is picking up the correct title as you can see here

Hi everyone, I think one of my sites got hit with Panda. On Sept 18th the site dipped to "not in top 50" for almost all keywords. I checked GWT for the manual action email but my inbox is empty!!!!!!!!!! The lesser of 2 evils I guess. They had major server issues that week as well so it is hard to identify what caused the site to dip. My client has original content on the website but almost all content on the blog is copied. Do you recommend me deleting the non original content? Can the problem be elsewhere? Thanks

I am running a PPC (Google Adwords Campaign) and it is pretty big. I have about 25 landing pages each with a Contact Form. I need the contact form to go to a unique thank you page for each landing page to measure conversions via Google Adwords. In other words I need the contact form on submission to redirect to a specific and unique thank you page that I can define. The contact form needs to be the same for all landing pages to avoid having to produce 25 landing pages. I am ok with producing 25 Example

Hi Everyone, Our client is requesting that we use Django for her project. I am really uneasy about this for several reasons. The client wants a multi-country site that is completely SEO friendly. I love Wordpress and if I had to do this project it would be a Wordpress site with WPML + Yoast plugins site. Questions Is Django SEO friendly and what "plugins" should I be using? Is there a multi-country plugin for Django that keeps or adds typical SEO features? Can you recommend any great articles? Any example sites would be GREATLY appreciated Thanks

Hi everyone, I am currently working on a website that the XML sitemap is set to update weekly. Our client has requested that this be changed to daily. The real issue is that the website creates short term product pages (10-20 days) and then the product page URL's go 404. So the real problem is quick indexing not daily vs weekly sitemap. I suspect that daily vs weekly sitemaps may help solve the indexing time but does not completely solve the problem. So my question for you is how can I improve indexing time on this project? The real problem is how to get the product pages indexed and ranking before the 404 page shows u?. . Here are some of my initial thoughts and background on the project. Product pages are only available for 10 to 20 days (Auction site).Once the auction on the product ends the URL goes 404. If the pages only exist for 10 to 20 days (404 shows up when the auction is over), this sucks for SEO for several reasons (BTW I was called onto the project as the SEO specialist after the project and site were completed). Reason 1 - It is highly unlikely that the product pages will rank (positions 1 -5) since the site has a very low Domain Authority) and by the time Google indexes the link the auction is over therefore the user sees a 404. Possible solution 1 - all products have authorship from a "trustworthy" author therefore the indexing time improves. Possible solution 2 - Incorporate G+ posts for each product to improve indexing time. There is still a ranking issue here since the site has a low DA. The product might appear but at the bottom of page 2 or 1..etc. Any other ideas? From what I understand, even though sitemaps are fed to Google on a weekly or daily basis this does not mean that Google indexes them right away (please confirm). Best case scenario - Google indexes the links every day (totally unrealistic in my opinion), URL shows up on page 1 or 2 of Google and slowly start to move up. By the time the product ranks in the first 5 positions the auction is over and therefore the user sees a 404. I do think that a sitemap updated daily is better for this project than weekly but I would like to hear the communities opinion. Thanks

On the old interface, I used to use a report that would automatically run when I created a new account letting me know where the dup titles and meta descriptions were on an entire site. Hi Everyone, I am looking for an article (can't remember the name of it) that has these concepts. I believe Rand wrote one not too long ago but I cannot remember the name. Inbound links from Social Media Sites do not help your SEO. There is correlation but that is it. Traffic generated from Social Media sites may be an indicator to Google and a SEO ranking factor. It is the traffic not the link that Google is consider as a ranking factor. Google plus - so there have been many articles saying that Google + helps your rankings. I believe I saw one by Rand saying this is not true. There is correlation but not causation. I am trying to explain to my students how social media really benefits SEO and make them think beyond "the link". Any other articles suggested are also appreciated Thanks Carla

Hi everyone, I know this seems like a really dumb question and I am pretty sure I know the answer but I am interested in hearing the communities opinion on the following issue. I have 2 gmail accounts. One for work and a personal one Work gmail account - It is ugly. Something like this abcdefghijklmnop@gmail.com (Don't ask...long story). Obviously I have it connected to my work email that looks like this...name@xdawson.com I created my G+ personal profile with my work gmail  (abcdefghijklmnop@gmail.com) and I use the free version of gmail. I have also created my company G+ profile from my work gmail account. My personal gmail account has an empty G+ profile. Don't use G+ except for work. Lately I have been publishing a lot and I am starting to get lots of followers on G+. My suspicion is that Google really does not want people with 2 accounts. Should I be using my personal Gmail account and delete my work gmail account? I need to move my company page to my personal gmail account. I really don't want people to see my ugly work gmail account. It is ugly 🙂 Thanks Carla

Hi everyone, I am currently coaching several companies on Content Marketing, Authorship etc and how to implement these techniques at an institutional level - more here. My question is - Can an author reap the benefits of authorship in all search engines simultaneously without linking to Google + and becoming entangled in the Google Circles phenomena? I know don't laugh. 🙂 I know it seems like an ignorant question, but there must be a way. Is there a possibility of doing this with Author Schema's http://schema.org/Article? Will Google treat them the same way as Google +? My clients are not happy about getting so entangled with Google + and leaving out the other search engines. Thanks Carla

Does anyone know of any universities that offer SEO as part of the curricula? I am currently working on getting SEO into an Argentine University and it would be nice to have precedents. Hi Everyone, Ok so here is my question. I have a client who sells gourmet tea and gourmet spices. She has a culinary blog. There is a culinary blog that just posted that the website will be shut down in the near future. It has 100% white hat links. Would it be considered black hat to buy the domain and redirect it to my clients blog which is also a culinary blog? I would really like to ask Matt Cutts this question. Hi Everyone, Does anyone have a "Semantics Communication Plan? I am giving a conference next month and I was planning on introducing the concept of a "semantic​ communications plan". I manage lots of digital marketing campaigns and I notice that a communication plan is created but not the sematics related to the content that will be produced. And even worse, the semantics used in different areas such as SEO (content marketing), Adwords, Social Media is arbitrary based on the person caring out the task. Consistent semantics in digital campaigns seems like it would benefit SEO if it is based on demand (google's using those keywords)...what are your thoughts on this? Thanks Carla

Hi Moz community, I am working on a SEO project (ecommerce) and most of the images on the website are .png and I notice they do not rank but yet the .jpg do. Do you recommend I change all the .png to .jpg? They all have alt text and keyword filenames (no spam 🙂 Here is the website www.moldear.com.ar. Hi, Does anyone know if you can modify your anchor text and URL after you reach 200 Moz points on your profile section (On the web section under image)? I am close to getting my 200 pts (btw...enjoyed the entire journey) and am trying to choose my anchor text. Here is some interesting analysis too. I have a Spanish site since we are an Argentinean firm. 1. Would a spanish word as anchor text have any value since Moz.com is an English site? I am think about semantics here and how Google likes only content relevant links. My thought is that it does today but it may not be true in the future if Google is going to do away with linkbuilding and just do semantics and co-citation. Thanks Carla

We have a responsive web design website and noticed this morning that we are ranking better on a cell phone search than on a PC search. There has been talk about this happening. We have submitted several really spammy websites to the Google spam team. We noticed they take a very long time to react to submissions. Do you know if it is possible to disavow a link that is not pointing to your website but rather to a very spammy website? Thanks

Does anyone know if Google releases all algorithm updates worldwide or if they do it slowly across the globe? I have a SEO agency in Argentina and it does not seem like the algorithm updates hit us as they do in the USA. I’ll give you an example.
