Hi i have just done an on grade report for my site www.in2town.co.uk and i found that i had a number of h1 which was not doing my seo any good. I have sorted most of the h1 problems out but the report is still showing i have two h1 but i cannot find them, i have found one which i have done which is a short description of the site under the main banner page but i cannot find the second h1

can anyone please let me know if their is a simple way of finding the other h1 so i can deal with it

Alt. Text is not a place to play games with hidden advertising. Use alt text to describe an image as if you were describing it to a person who cannot see it. You have roughly 35 images on page one. The alt. text is for vacations, plus size dresses, etc. of which none reflects any of the images. Don't play keyword and SEO games if you want to succeed today.

Thank you for this. i have never really understood the importance of alt text in the images. a lot of the times i have left it blank or just used the image name from my computer, so what i will do now is tackle this now i know it is important

Also, you have pages with literally hundreds of internal links which if of no use to you. You need to keep them under 100. You have listed every city or township in the UK in the footer and it looks spammy and does not serve a purpose in SEO.

I will need to look into this as the only internal links i should have is by trying to link pages together. so for example what i have read is to have linking going through your site so google and people can find things. I read a good article about <cite>en.wikipedia.org and how they use internal linking.</cite>

The article said they were a great example of how to link pages together and they only thing i have done at the moment is to try and link different sections, although i was hoping to spend a few weeks going through the site and linking articles. what i mean by this is, names in the articles i will be linking them to articles that the person appears in, unless you feel this is a bad idea.

Ok, sorry but part two is the duplicate content. I know that gossip mags pull from one another, but with the changes the last year at Google, you may need to stop if you want to rank. I took random pages and articles and found you and a lot of others using the same first sentence or first two sentences. If you want it to be fresher than the others and have the option to rank higher, you may want to invest in a good copy writer.

I write my own content, but a problem maybe that i promote it around the net, so for example  i use blogs etc to promote the first paragraph.

There should be none of my content where it is duplicate but if you can give me examples so i can look into then that would be great. 98% of the articles i write myself, we do from time to time have companies who like to send us articles which they claim are fresh and never been used.

Second question

When we set up sites with Joomla as CMS, we set the meta description only on the article (page) level. There are many SEO plugins for Joomla and depending on which you are using, there could be additional settings there. Make sure you have all for setting at page level.

Can you let me know how i do this. i am using the component sh404sef

First of all the following which you have said:

With reference to the meta tags and description, what i have been using is sh404sef to give the page meta tags and user friendly url's, do you feel that i should be going through all my content and add the meta tags myself or just the meta description?

Hi my site http://www.in2town.co.uk/ is a lifestyle magazine and before we changed templates and changed the joomla language from 1.0 to 1.5 our lifestyle magazine was getting around 10,000 visitors a day and we were number one in google for the search term lifestyle magazine.

In the past few months we have been number five for the search term lifestyle magazine and now since yesterday we have dropped to ten.

I have a serious problem that being a online lifestyle magazine i do not have the luxury to have lots of text telling people it is a lifestyle magazine and google. What i mean is, if this was a website about benidorm then you would have an introduction about benidorm so google would understand what the site is about.

What i would like help on, is to get back to the top and know where i can put a nice introduction which does not look out of place and what i can do to get back to the top under the search term lifestyle magazine.

i have moved a google adsense to the left of the content and it looks better but not put any on the top bar because after reading what was suggested on here. i found that people are complaining about having adsense at the top of the page.

do the links count as part of the three ads allowed on the page or is this seperate and also would it be worthwhile having a google search on my site

Thank you simon, i will watch that now and have a read. I have been interested about videos but not really got a clue on how to edit etc. I have bought myself a podcast setup, which i bought for myself and my daughter who is at college, so i will start to learn that and see how that goes.

Hi. I am using google adsense and trying to find the best way to have them on my pages but being knew i am not sure the best way to lay them out.

I am playing around with the pages and would love to see some good examples of adsense pages that work.

If anyone can give me advice on the following page and let me know what is wrong or right with this page to help me understand where i am going wrong, then that would be great. I am trying to sort it out so each page is set out the same.

by trade i am a professional writer and have wrote books as well as articles and i also use to have my own glossy magazine.

The hours i work at the moment trying to create a brand for my sites is from 6am in the morning till around 12 midnight and i work six days out of seven.

If you have the knowledge then it is not a problem in writing them. I have been asked in the past to write for different sites where i would have earned a very good revenue per week for a lot less hours, but my aim is to get my sites up there and working properly and creating readers.

The articles are quality as that is not a problem. The problem is, the articles that i have been writing are not getting linked back to my site because they are taking away the part that says who it has been writen by and the link address

Thank you for the support on here. I have to say that i am shocked by the comment made by the person who i do not feel is worth mentioning. I am very knew to all this and read a lot and i was always taught that if you want to learn then you should read, listen and ask lots of questions.

I write lots of articles daily not just on my sites but also on lots of article sites to try and gain a reputation.

I find with the article sites that i am having loads of my articles put around the net on lots of different sites each day but they do not add the link or name to the article which makes me feel i could be wasting my time.

I am looking at ways to increase my brand as well as increasing my page authority.

I write on average around 40 articles a day, some for my sites and some for article sites but with the negative responce i am getting from article sites and i am now considering just keeping the articles for my own site but as i have read, there are thousands of sites that have great content that are updated daily but get no where and that is because they do not have the link juice or page authority. and i do not want to make this mistake.

I do not want to write lots of great content and then have only a small amount of people read it.

chris just been reading your info on the link your provided. can you tell me more as what i do not understand is, do you post all the content from a page. so if i had a page on my site about losing weight with smoothies, would i post the whole article or just part of it and then have a link back to my site for people to read the rest of it.

i have opened a facebook account but i think i have done it wrong. i think i have opened a business account which according to what i have just read on facebook does not give me many features which include the search bar and it also says that it is hard for people to find me.

as always kerri you have a good answer for my problems. i was also looking at these blod streams, sorry cannot think of the proper name at the moment, but where you can join a site and display some of their content but then they jump to another site and that is your traffic lost.

What i am thinking of doing to keep google keep coming to my section of the site is to import content, what i mean is, to use google for keywords such as humerside airport and have the stories appear on this page as well as writing my own content. I was thinking of importing content because it would help keep the page fresh without my original content become too old but i am concerned about this and not sure if it is the right thing to do.

i am concerned if i do this if my rankings would reduce because i am importing content and for people to read the rest of the story they will have to leave my site. i am also worried that google will reduct points for duplicate content.

can anyone let me know what i should do, if i should just stick to original content and not import it or to import it and if i should import it using google news how would i do this.

here is a site i am working on http://www.cheapflightsgatwick.com/ which is a main travel site which i hope to have finished in the next couple of weeks, and what i have done with this as an experiment is, to have the logo and the main menu shown with a gap.

and what i was thinking was, to have an introduction in there in text format for google and for my users but i do not know if this would be good or not. i do not know if this would look nice or look rubbish.

the problem i have with the in2town one and this one, is finding the space to put the text to let people know what it is and to let google know what it is. before this with the in2town, i have a big space with the writing to show both google and the user what the site is about but it looked out of the place and after looking at other magazines like the sun and female first and digital spy who do not have any content showing, i decided to remove it, so you can see my problem.

when i have a big space on the above site cheap flights gatwick and had information about the site, google had it at number four and five but now when i have removed that i am about number 49, so i am struggling, because i want google to have my site in the top of the search engines but i do not want it to look rubbish

I have left a space between the logo and the main page, would this be a good place to write an introduction, maybe a paragraph to the site and maybe write a paragraph there or each section so when you go to a different menu section on the site, have the info there.

Hi i have seen lots of facebook pages that are being used to promote a company and would like to know if anyone is using facebook or any other social network such as myspace to promote their website without having to pay a fee.

I would love to see some examples and learn how to set up a facebook page that is there to promote a website.

these are also the areas we will be covering

Hi, my website http://www.in2town.co.uk/Holiday-News is about bringing travel and holiday news to our readers of our lifestyle magazine but i am having problems at the moment with the layout.

What i mean by this is, i have written content on the page as an introduction so google knows what this section of the site is about but to be honest it looks rubbish with having the introduction there and i would like to know if i am doing the right thing by having the content there for google to know what my site is about.

I have tried taking it away and noticed i dropped in the rankings and when i have put it back up i go up in the rankings, can anyone please give me some advice over this issue

hi we get a great deal of traffic because we have the cities there and get a huge responce from people calling because they put it in the search engine to find someone near them. so my problem is, it looks messy but it brings us a load of traffic and customers and i am trying to work out a way to make it look better as it looks messy

just found the image, that is something i cannot understand. not sure why that has appeared, this is something we removed a long time ago. thanks for finding that.

hi no i was not putting it on here for a link i was making it easier for people to click it so they could see the problem.

The bottom of the site is a major headache for me. i am trying to get people to know the areas that we cover but i cannot find another better way of doing it and for months now i have been racking my brain of finding a better way of doing it. if you have any suggestions then that would be great.

the broken image is something that we are sorting out at the moment

If you're concerned about page load time, take a look at your image size and resize the images before they're on the page, not in the code. That one about the results is quite large and could be probably 1/10 the file size that it is now without a problem.

i have been considering about putting a video on the site but i did not know if this would slow the site down and also if it helps with ranking or not. i did read somewhere where it said that videos are good on sites but then people responded by saying it makes no difference so i did not know what to think.

would the video have to be something i made or maybe a video that is already out there on the subject
