We never had any link building strategies. External followed links has gone from 346-402. The site had amazing seo completely by luck, the site was redone in November and so there has been renewed focus on seo the last few months.

RE: Drop in domain authority for myself and all my competitors, was something changed?
I understand but MozRank and MozTrust have both dropped as well. Essentially everything on the competitive analysis has dropped the last few months and nobody has been able to tell me why. So when my boss look at that analysis and everything is trending down it looks bad for me.

RE: Drop in domain authority for myself and all my competitors, was something changed?
My job performance is tied to these stats. So even though organic traffic is the same it still doesn't look good for me. If I just tell him its random fluctuations he will probably ask why hasn't it fluctuated up. The total drop for domain authority was 35 to 30. Any ideas on how to boost that?

Drop in domain authority for myself and all my competitors, was something changed?
On the 1/11 report all four websites dropped, and starting on 2/12 they all dropped a few more times. These are all large companies who are completely white hat. Was something changed? The reason I asked is all of our linking C-Blocks dropped as well. Mine dropped from 114 to 42 and I have no idea why. All of my competitors dropped as well, is this related?

RE: Link Building Question
It is a way to build links, but I don't think it will pay off for a very long time.
It takes a little time for things to show up in OSE. I wouldn't be concerned unless it has been 5 weeks or more.

RE: Duplicate titles and descriptions problem?
I am sure on the 301. I use http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/ to check and it shows 301. I checked with and without the trailing slash.
The sitemap is created and submitted everyday.
The old urls are not accessible anymore.
I am just stumped.

RE: Duplicate titles and descriptions problem?
It has been four months, so I know it has been crawled. The pages don't exist any longer so I don't know where I would put canonical.
-
RE: Duplicate titles and descriptions problem?
The pages are item pages. They are all being 301ed. Why is Google showing them as duplicate when they are being 301ed?
-
Duplicate titles and descriptions problem?
We had an old site that used the urls for items site.com/32423432 we changed that to site.com/item name
The old stuff has gone away and we have 301 redirects up. For some reason we are getting hit with duplicate titles on those pages and duplicate meta tags.
The site relaunch was in November and we have a had a few problems but this just started showing up in the last week after having gone down.
Any thoughts on a fix?

Site speed tests
In webmaster tools my site is showing that it is taking longer and longer to load, and it has now doubled. Is there a way to check which pages are the problem? The site is quite large so I can't check them one at a time.

RE: Workaround for frames?
Few things I should also explain.
I know almost nothing about programming so if I send this to my developer he should be ok?
The information is put in with a WYSIWYG by the customer, approved by us, then displayed in the frame on an item page. Would this be able to display what is in the WYSIWYG.
-
RE: Workaround for frames?
All I want are the words that are in this frame. The page is done in .net. Which one of those you suggested would be the best??
-
Workaround for frames?
Currently we have our item pages descriptions sitting in frames. I want to get rid of the frames altogether but my developer has said that it is a pain. Is there a way to have the text in the source code readable by search engines but not showing on the page? What about using the noframes tag? If I do a search for my frames they are actually indexed. Should I use a robot.txt block on these pages? What about rel-canonical? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Bearshare links?
I am doing competitor link research and so far 4 of the 4 have had links from search.bearshare.net What kind of site is this? I am sure it isn't valuable but I can't figure out how it is getting crawled.

RE: When do my links show up?
I don't use any other tools currently. Knowing it can take awhile makes me feel a little better. Is there a feature that lets you know what is new since the last scan?
-
When do my links show up?
For the last two weeks I have been working on linkbuilding. I have downloaded competitors link reports and started contacting or submitting links. In the last two weeks I have gotten about 50-60 or so. In the newest report it shows I went up four c-blocks. Why is that? It is kind of discouraging.

RE: Is a 301 to a 301 ok?
Yup, we just have one site but it needs all sorts of redirects. We have a site such as www.neat-stuff.com and most people just type in without the dash. We completely redid the site with all new urls so we had a lot of redirects to do.
-
RE: Redirect help
That is exactly what we ended up doing thanks for your help.
After site launch a few months ago we lost a lot of organic traffic. Think this will bring some of it back?
-
RE: Is a 301 to a 301 ok?
Exactly was I was looking for. Trying to Google it for some reason was giving me problems.
-
RE: How would I know if Google is showing me as two separate sites?
Makes perfect sense. Everything was ok except one that is without the www. is showing a 200 instead of a 301. How serious is that?
-
Is a 301 to a 301 ok?
I have a site that has a lot of url differences. Due to coding we sometimes have to 301 to a page that is 301'd to another. Is there any danger in doing this?
-
How would I know if Google is showing me as two separate sites?
I work for a company that is (for example) www.neat-stuff.com, most people just type in www.neatstuff.com. I think that we are being counted as a site twice. Any suggestions as to how to know for sure?
If you want to know why I am asking this here is the link http://www.seomoz.org/q/redirect-help

RE: Redirect help
Couple of things. We have 20k pages or so. Individually redirecting that much would be a pain.
After working with some people we now have it to where www.neat-stuff.com/235425243 category on the new site redirects to www.neat-stuff.com/category on the new site correctly. Same thing with neatstuff.com/4544564 to www.neatstuff.com/category on the new site. Shouldn't it be to one?
For the home page both www.neatstuff.com and www.neat-stuff.com work but there is no redirect. When I run a checker it says direct link. I think we are being shown as a duplicate site.
-
RE: Redirect help
On our old site the categories were /52352524 and one of the things we did on the new site was actually give them names so it is now /category WIll that still work with that?
Wanted to add that most of our current redirects are done dynamically because we use asp.net so if you go to category 34234 it will take you to the correct /category through a 301 redirect.
-
RE: Redirect help
It is hosted on a Windows server. Do you have a similar fix for IIS?

Redirect help
I work for a company that has a domain that is something like www.neat-stuff.com but most people just use www.neatstuff.com without the dash. The redirect for the homepage works fine.
We recently launched a new site and if you use www.neat-stuff.com/category it redirects from the old site to the new site just fine.
However if you use www.neatstuff.com/category it does not properly redirect to www.neat-stuff.com/category.
How do I fix that?

Value of certain directory links
I am looking at the links to a competitors site and they have a ton of links from things like this http://www.directoryws.com/ Is it worth submitting to something like this? It has a 58 domain authority from Moz.

What is the best tool to view your page as Googlebot?
Our site was done with asp.net and a lot of scripting. I want to see what Google can see and what it can't. What is the best tool that duplicates Googlebot? I have found several but they seem old or inaccurate.

RE: How do I find unique visitors for the homepage?
I went through the steps you did and it did show new visitors but as a total. Here is what I am trying to do. We had statcounter on our site years ago, and I want to compare it to analytics data. Statcounter was only on the homepage so the data isn't good to start with but it only shows unique visitors. So I don't what to do.
-
How do I find unique visitors for the homepage?
I am normally pretty good with Analytics but I can not figure out how to find out how many unique visitors there were on the homepage. When I do content drilldown all I can do is pageviews. Any suggestions?

RE: Do I need to use rel canonical in a blog?
I have read that page and this is why I have the confusion. The URLs will not be close, the content will be very different, but the keywords will be similar. If I sell widgets and also have a blog post about widgets the content is very different between the two but bot have similar keywords.
-
RE: Do I need to use rel canonical in a blog?
The URLs will be very different. Current structure is www.site.com/category/item The blog will be www.site.com/blog/blogposttitle the URLs will not be close but the keywords throughout the page will be.
-
Do I need to use rel canonical in a blog?
I work at an ecommerce site and we are in the process setting up a blog. Do I need to use rel canonical what talking about a certain category? If I sell widgets and write a blog about widgets should I use that tag? Or is there something else I should do?

Keyword Targeting with Dynamic Pages
We have a large e-commerce website made with .net. so all of our category and item pages are made dynamic. Most things like title, some of the words and a few other things are done with scripts. I want to be able to target certain words and have more customized words on certain pages. Has anyone dealt with this? I know .net is pretty common so I can't be a unique case.

RE: Linkbuilding without blogging?
Before I look at the quality of the site, I need to know what sites I should be looking at. I can't find any sort of resource for that. For personal use I search the web on a regular basis and have used both about.com and wikihow.com. I know there are other sites like that I have not used. Is there any list out there of sites like these?
-
RE: Linkbuilding without blogging?
We will be working on blogs in the future. Right now I am looking for alternative ideas such as WIkihow. Is it better to try Wikihow or about.com? What are the other comparable sites?
-
RE: Linkbuilding without blogging?
Yup. That is the same stuff I have read everywhere. Was hoping for something different.
-
Linkbuilding without blogging?
I am looking at starting to do some link building for my site. I have already done directory listing. What are my options for link building without blogs? Things like Wikihow?

RE: How do I find the links on my site that link to another one of my pages?
I ran that but it only told me about what links the page had going out from it now coming in. After just checking tons of links I found it but for future reference I would still like a more efficient way.
-
How do I find the links on my site that link to another one of my pages?
I ran IIS Seo toolkit and it found about 40 pages that I have no idea how they exist. What tool can I use to find out what internal link is linking to them so I can fix them or get rid of them?
-
RE: SEOmoz Says 530 - Google Webmaster Tools Says 16
We has the same problem, after a lot of research we figured it it was scripts. If we had a script on a page it counted the page twice most of the time. The Seomoz crawler isn't as advanced as the Googlebot so it can't do quite as much.

RE: Do my redirects on my homepage need to be 301?

RE: Why the sudden link drop?
The 301s were not right, but we fixed 99% of them in early December. I did double check them this week. Not sure what else to look for.
-
RE: Why the sudden link drop?
We have no direct relationships with anyone. Every link we got just appeared, nobody made an effort to get any. We didn't have a lot of great links anyway. We never had an SEO strategy. We used out of the box software for a decade. Than in Early November we launched a redesigned site and got killed organically. I don't think anyone made a decision to drop us as a link because we never had a strategy and to be honest didn't have that great of links with the few we did have. I will run Majestic now and see what it shows. I really think this is something on our end. We had great developers, but they don't know a lot about seo.
-
RE: Do my redirects on my homepage need to be 301?
Changing it to a 301 makes sense. Do I need to change for both with the www and without? I have never quite figured out if that counts as two different urls or not.
-
RE: Do my redirects on my homepage need to be 301?
The only reason we still use the one with the hyphens is because we have been using the same domain name for over ten years.
-
RE: Why the sudden link drop?
I am not showing any link spam but I did use ahrefs and a few things came up. We lost 90 backlinks in one day at the end of November. Overal in two months we have gone from 1800 backlinks to 1600. At the end of December we had 380 referring domains and it dropped to 227 in one day, not back up to 330.

RE: Why the sudden link drop?
I am showing no soft 404s and no server errors. Where would I see the 404s? We actually don't use cms we had a site custom built.
