I have a client who recieved this advice from his marketing consultant: "If there are multiple h1 tags on a page, this can confuse Google and it may have a negative impact on the keyword rankings. If you could ask your web developer to go in and remove the h1 tags on the header images that would be helpful. This way it will be easier for Google to index your site and will help your keyword rankings."

How will it effect SEO to have multiple h1 tags on a page?

We have too many meta tags and want to get rid of all the outdated ones. However, we don't want to eliminate valuable meta tags by mistake. So, before we say goodbye to the URL meta tag, we want to make sure we understand the pros and cons, if any.

By the way, we are not referring to canonical URL tags, just URL as in:

This is certainly reassuring. I'll look into the link portfolio just in case. And since this drop in rankings just happened a few days ago, maybe it is Google testing as you mention.

We have a tool to track rankings, but I've been monitoring it manually too and have sometimes seen the usual 'good rankings' as you mention.

Thank you for taking the time to look into it. Hopefully it is just a temporary fluctuation and not a permanent drop.

We launched http://www.manufacturedfun.com/ earlier this year and had been ranking 1 & 2 on Google SERPs for the keywords we optimized, but last week we experienced a sudden drop in rankings that pretty much took us off the radar.

For instance, 'popcorn machines' went as far back as page 5 and 'popcorn poppers' dropped even further to page 9.

We are currently working on fixing the numerous Duplicate Page Title and Duplicate Page Content errors identified by SEOmoz, but since we have had those for about 6 months and ranked well anyway, I wonder if there's something else that we are missing.

Any insight you can offer will be sincerely appreciated. Thank you!

Hey, mozzers!  My first question ever...  I have a client who has (fictitionally) WickerPatioHomeStore.com, which features wicker home decor.  Not too long ago, they wanted a shorter, easier URL, so they redirected to another domain they own, WickerPatio.com (again, fictional).  They saw somewhat of a drop in traffic, and wonder if there's a correlation with the words "home store" not being in their domain any more.  When considering the two, I figure that relevant factors would be age of domains, history of content of the domains, and inbound links to each domain.  Any thoughts on other things to consider?  Thanks very much!!  ~ Scott
