Thank you for this in depth answer
Did you mean by +new property= +new account
If it is so, my question is: is it ok to have 2 GATC codes on all the pages since you are saying we should a get a new property?
Thanks

Hi Kristina
thanks for the doc. From my understanding:
Step 1: I would go under "admin", then "tracking code", select "one domain with multiple subdomains", then save
Step 2: Copy and paste the new GATC on sub domain to sub.example.com. Should I capy and paste this new GATC under the main domain too?
Step 3: go to "Profile", then click "+new profile" , create a profile
Step4: add a filter but then I am not sure what to do? There is an advanced setting i have to go to as well?
Anything eles i should do too?
Thanks
Ty
Hi Mozzers,
Can someone show me how to add a subdomain profile (sub.example.com) under the master profile (www.example.com) on Google Analytics.
I am not sure on how to set it up.
Thanks
Hi
The address hasn't changed and there is no malware on the site. The site is totally fine. I am really wondering why this listing is active but not showing up when 90% percent of the other listings are fine.
Any other thoughts!!
Thanks
Hi Mozzers,
I have a client that have multiple franchises nationwide. All of them have their google places accounts serving their area. I have an issue regarding one of them that used to rank in position 2(places ranking). After 2 months ranking so high, it suddenly disappeared. I tried to be patient and hoped it would come back again but nothing happened. Since this account was under a master account (with many other places account), I thought it would be a good idea to suspend the one in the master account and create a new one under a unique gmail account. Guess what, it s still not showing up!!
I don't know what to do!
I have reviewed the Guideline and the listing seems to follow the guideline. I may be not aware of a major google update on places though.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Ty
Hi Mozzers
I am tracking a web property www.example.com and we are launching a subdomain.example.com. Should the subdomain tracked on GA by creating a new profile or should it be on its own with a new GA property ID?
Thanks for explaining how to do that setup

Hi Mozzers,
I have a dilemma here. I have one of my clients that has its American website and would like to promote its business in canada(2 locations only vs more than 40 in the u.s).
What would be the best SEO decision here for the 2 Canadian locations:
Thanks
Ty
It totally makes sense.
Thank you guys!!
Hi mozzers,
I am wondering if the search engine gets bothered to read multiple heading 2s or heading 3s or heading4s (these would be unique content headings of course)?
I am asking this because I need to follow a consistent content structure and many of titles would fall into one type of headings.
Thanks
Ty
Thanks for that but why is number one the best SEO practice?
Hi Mozzers,
Client: Important carpet cleaner player in the carpet cleaning industry
Main Goal: Creating good content to Get more organic traffic to our main site
Structure of the extra content: It will act like a blog but will be differentiated from the regular site by not selling anything but just creating good content. The look and design will be different from the client's site.
SEO Question: Which option is more beneficial, creating a subdomain or adding a regular page within the website following a directory path URL?
If possible, please state what are the advantages and disadvantages of these 2 options in terms of SEO.
Thank you and have a great weekend everyone,
Thanks a lot... Your answer was really helpful
Hi Mozzers,

Main Goal: Creating good content to Get more organic traffic to our main site
Structure of the extra content: It will act like a blog but will be differentiated from the regular site by not selling anything but just creating good content. The look and design will be different from the client's site.
SEO question: In terms of SEO, what would be the most beneficial for us to do, should we built in this new section/site outside or inside the client's site?
I personally think that it should be separated from the main site because of the main reasons:
If we would to choose to build in this content, it would be highly beneficial for getting organic traffic within the main site but I am afraid this will not provide us any link juice since anchor texts won't be accounted the same since all of those would be located in the Nav bar of the main site.
Can someone tell me what would be the best in terms of SEO?
P.S: My boss doesn't agree with me and would rather go the second option (build in within the main site) that's why i am asking you guys what would be the most beneficial?
Thank you Guys
Hi Paul,
You got it. Sorry if it was confusing and thanks for your answer.
Good questions. Our brand new pages are completely different from the old pages in terms of coding, programing and structure wise.
Ty,
Hi Mozzers,
We create multiple pages for one of my client. Some of them are replacing old pages. I setup 5 of them out of 40. I was able to set them live via the drupal CMS. The new pages were actually published but didn't have any URL but had nodes in directory such as www.example.com/node298. To set them live i changed the url path to one page that already existed( www.example.com/old). In order to setup the replacing page: www.example.com/node298 i added the same name as the old one but in order to avoid URL conflicts with new page(www.example.com/new) I had to change the old page's url path as well such as www.example.com/old2)
I know i have to 301 redirect the old to the new obviously but my question is: does a URL path change on the old page www.example.com/old matters in when 301 ing it? will it still transfer all the juice to the new page
Visual Process:
Main goal: www.example.com/old redirect to www.example.com/new but these two are exactly the same url
So modification of URL path: www.example.com/old to www.example.com/old2 to avoid URL conflict
Therefore www.example.com/old2 =www.example.com/old (just url change path difference)
Question: Because of this url change, will a 301 from www.example.com/old2 to www.example.com/new will still carry all the juice that www.example.com/old carried or not?
I hope i didn't make it too confusing. Let me know if it is the case
Thanks Mozzers

Hi Greg,
Since I am not an expert into sitemaps yet, once i finish removing URLs I don t want, should I just save the text editor document and then how do I submit this doc into webmaster tool?
Is it just "add sitemap" and put the name of the doc "www.example.com/sitemap.xml"? or is there another manipulation I should be aware of?
Thank you,
Hi mozzers,
I am about to submit a sitemap for one of my clients via webmaster tools. The issue is that I have way too many urls that I don't want them to be indexed by Google such as testing pages, auto generated pages...
Is there way to remove certain URL from the XML sitemap or is this impossible?
If impossible, is the only way to control these urls is to "No index" all these pages that i don't want the search engine to see?
Thanks Mozzers,
Hi Jim,
Thanks for your answer.
We use D6. Do you have a link for module installation that you can provide me?
Thank you
Ty
Work on link building essentially. Get good authoritative site linking you which is not easy but here is a link you can use.
http://www.seomoz.org/article/the-professional-guide-to-link-building-2011
Good luck!!
Using the KW tool SEO moz will tell you how hard is it to compete for a certain KW( SEO difficulty%) but it won't tell who is your direct competitor.
Depending on how authoritative is your site, generally you want to choose KW that has a low or medium comp. If you have a very authoritative site you might want to try the High competitive kw.
P.S:This analysis is for SEO mainly and not SEM.
Hi,
First you need to make a search for a specific keyword that your are targeting. When searching you will see who is on the first page. These would be your competitors. The more ads you see on the right and the more competitive the keyword is.
Another way to find which keywords are competitive, The free adwords tool will provide good data and will tell you if there is a low, medium or high competition for specific KW. Adwords won't tell you which websites are your competitors. On the other hand, SEM rush (not free) will tell you who is your competition and which keywords they are ranking for.
Hope this helps,
Hi SEOmozzers,
I have a client that has couple of duplicates but I am debating if i should just kill those pages or use 301 Permanent redirects. I know SEO moz provides 2 important factors to look at which are PA and link root domain.
1.Which one matters the most? or which one should I look at first to make a decision?
2. I have empty pages creating duplicate content with a PA of 14 and 1 linking root domain. my thought is to kill the page by inserting a meta NO INDEX. If you don't agree and think I should 301 to an existing page that needs link juice, let me know.
Thank you mozzers
Hi Kenny,
So I have made the Bot crawl this form of url http://183.2564.2864 and detected multiple errors. So are you saying that I shouldn't rely on what the crawlers has detected? should I then assign the dev team to provide me an actual dev url before sending them any recommendations to fix errors already detected by the bot?
Thanks
Hi Dr.Peter,
Thanks for this great suggestion but could you tell me if the canonical would be a solution and if yes, could you tell me if my answer to Brent is right?
Thanks
Thanks Brent,
Interesting, I thought you would put the canonical version of the URL on all duplicates. Have you done it before?
Hey Brent,
For Rel=canonical
I should insert this tag:
rel="canonical" href="http://www.ex.com/user/login" />
in each of these pages
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F256%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F258%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F242%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F257%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F260%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F225%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F251%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F176%23comment-form
Is that correct?
Thanks
Thanks Brent:)
But can you tell me why this wouldn't be good to 404? what is the reason behind that statement?
Thanks
Hi seomozzers again,
One of my clients uses DRUPAL(cms) and I have an issue when editing any pages. I access the edit section of the page, try to insert meta description tags, save and view the page source and NO meta description tags appear!!
Why is that? Is there a specific setting that I need to implement?
Under Meta Tags, apparently DRUPAL likes to put canonical tags by default(unless i can tweek one of the settings), and I would like to remove them. The weird thing is that even there are no canonical tags set, when viewing the page source I can still locate a canonical tag.
Is there a setting that allow me to remove the canonical by default?
Thank you mozzers:)
Hi seomozzers,
<colgroup><col width="548"></colgroup>
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F256%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F258%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F242%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F257%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F260%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F225%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F251%23comment-form
http://ex.com/user/login?destination=comment%2Freply%2F176%23comment-form
These are duplicate content and the canonical version is: http://www.ex.com/user (login and pass page of the website)
Since there were multiple other duplicates which mostly have been resolved by 301s, I figured that all "LOGIN" URLs (above) should be 404d since they don't carry any authority and 301 those wouldn't be the best solution since "too many 301s" can slow down the website speed.
But a member of the dev team said:
"Looks like all the urls requested to '404 redirect' are actually the same page http://ex.com/user/login. The only part of the url that changes is the variables after the "?" . I don't think you can (or highly not recommended) make 404 pages display for variables in a url. "
So my question is: I am not sure what he means by that? and Is it really better to not 404 these?
Thanks
Hi seomozzers,
We are creating a brand new website for a client and I would like to run an seo moz crawl to fix what has been done wrong. So my question is it ok to run an SEO moz crawl with a dev URL? Are final URLs and dev URLs will give me the same results or not?
Basically, Should I wait for getting the final URL or is it ok to run a crawl under a dev URL such as www.dev2.example.com or http://183.2564.2864?
Thank you
Hi seomozzers,
The design team is building a new website for one of our clients. My role is to make sure all the link juice is kept.
My first question is, should I just make 301s or is there another technique to preserve all the link juice from the old to new site that I should be focusing on?
Second Question is that ok to transfer link juice using dev urls like www.dev2.example.com (new site) or 182.3456.2333? or should I wait the creation of real urls to do link juice transfer?
Thank you
Thank you guys for these advices. I saw that webinar and it was really helpful.
Hi Fellas,
I wanted to know once you verify the BIng Webmaster tool (via xml file) for a dev site, do you have to do the verification process again for the final site?
I thought I needed to do the verification again but once I added the final website (which have almost a similar URL) into the webmaster tool account, it seemed that I didn't have to verify it. I am a bit confused.
Thank you for clarifying
and Please let me know if there is a way to edit this in the case you guys find a solution to it.
Thanks again
I guess I have no choice then to leave it that way.
Thank you for response.
How do you add them under the specific client account since all my accounts are under an umbrella so when I add a selected one, all of them are added?
Can you provide a step by step guide?
Thank you
Hi
I added one google analytics account with a third party business as an admin, and I accidentally shared all the accounts of my clients. So this business have access to all my google analytics account.
How do I remove them as an admin of all the GA accounts except the one they need? A step by step process is welcomed
Thank you,
Hi JP Moulin,
I might have forgotten to mention that we are transferring this website to another server. By giving you this info, how could this happen? Unfortunately I am not a webmaster expert so could you provide me an "easy to understand explanations".
Thank you
Hi Everyone,
I have encountered a major issue in one of my clients website(kitchen appliance website). This client has 2 main websites (A & B) linked with each other representing 2 different categories of appliances. We are trying to create some brand pages that this store carries.
One brand page has been created and when searching for it on SERP, the results found should be under URL A but it is under URL B.
I don't know what is going on? Can someone explain me what happened?
Thank you,
Hi SEOmoz community,
Today, I checked the google webmaster tool of one of my clients, and ithere are 18 403 errors, I was wondering on how to fix those since it is the first time I come across these errors? How can I avoid that in the future?
Thank you,
I have a corporate client which has multiple franchises, therefore microsites (www.example.com/cityname) within their corporate website(www.example.com). I am trying to build some links for these microsites that are lot weaker than the corporate web page in terms of PA.
We worked hard putting most of these locations into local directories such as Google places and yahoo local, but the ones on yahoo local are all pointing to www.example.com even when you search a specific city when it suppose to be www.example.com/cityname. So first thought is to edit all of the yahoo locals to the microsite webpages for every locations but then I thought that wasn't a good idea since I will split the juice passed to the corporate website www.example.com. The corporate website is really important and wouldn't want to weaken its PA.
Can someone tell me what are my options in order to not hurt the corporate website and to improve ranking for these weak microsites? should I still edit those yahoo listings to the microsite website or not? if not what how will I be able to build more links?
Thank you!!
