RE: Proper Hosting Setup to Avoid Subfolders & Duplicate Content
I have the same problem with so of the sites I manage. Luckily the search engines have never found or indexed the duplicate url i.e. domain.com/secondsite. Have the search engines indexed it for you? If not is it really a problem? I have considered a 301 or robots.txt but due to it never being found/indexed I did not see the point.

Worth removing keywords...?
I was just going over a site I manage and noticed it had a load of meta keywords on it. Probably 10-15 keywords per page... Do you think this is harming the site? Is it worth removing them?

RE: Sorting out a proper domain - changing from .org
Not really.... it's just the old seo company is crap and not done much so if I'm going to change it makes sense to do it now... no reason other than a builders with a .org domain.....

RE: Google & Bing not indexing a Joomla Site properly....
Thanks Ryan -
1. I thought as much with Bing but wanted to see other people thoughts - I will hunt around for the submit in webmaster tools. It begs the obvious question what's better quality (bing being selective) or quantity (google analysing it all and deciding for its self).... To be debated at length! lol
2 & 3. W3C no errors and no css errors either..... I think it is the way we put the pages together using modules and laying them out via css - we employ our own coder. I don't really want to broadcast clients sites on forums etc.... But I am looking to improve to ensure we are doing things right - if something is not right we need to do it again and get it right. I don't want to get a rep for bad quality and bad work.

Google & Bing not indexing a Joomla Site properly....
Can someone explain the following to me please.
The background:
I launched a new website - new domain with no history. I added the domain to my Bing webmaster tools account, verified the domain and submitted the XML sitemap at the same time. I added the domain to my Google analytics account and link webmaster tools and verified the domain - I was NOT asked to submit the sitemap or anything. The site has only 10 pages.
The situation:
The site shows up in bing when I search using site:www.domain.com - Pages indexed:- 1 (the home page) The site shows up in google when I search using site:www.domain.com - Pages indexed:- 30 Please note Google found 30 pages - the sitemap and site only has 10 pages - I have found out due to the way the site has been built that there are "hidden" pages i.e. A page displaying half of a page as it is made up using element in Joomla.
My questions:-
1. Why does Bing find 1 page and Google find 30 - surely Bing should at least find the 10 pages of the site as it has the sitemap? (I suspect I know the answer but I want other peoples input).
2. Why does Google find these hidden elements - Whats the best way to sort this - controllnig the htaccess or robots.txt OR have the programmer look into how Joomla works more to stop this happening.
3. Any Joomla experts out there had the same experience with "hidden" pages showing when you type site:www.domain.com into Google.
I will look forward to your input!

One Way Links vs Two Way Links
Hi,
Was speaking to a client today and got asked how damaging two way links are. i.e. domaina.com links to domainb.com and domainb.com links back to domaina.com. I need a nice simple layman's explanation of if/how damaging they are compared to one way links. And please don't answer with you lose link juice as I have a job explaining link juice.... I am explaining things to a non techie!
Thank you!!

RE: First 500 Twitter Followers....
It's trying to example why fake profiles/spam are bad.... they just see the numbers of followers going up and think it makes the account look better....
-
RE: First 500 Twitter Followers....
As I said in my earlier comment..... How do you stop clients paying for cheap follows.... my original comment above is....
"...I find myself explaining why not to pay $25 for 1000 followers. Clients view is that it makes the account look better and if they get taken in the future they have made the account look better in the short term..... How do you defend that sort of logic...."

Yeah thats kind of my thinking.... Might just hashtag trends....

First 500 Twitter Followers....
I am about to start a brand new twitter account... I have been reading about people offering to set-up accounts with 500 followers... I assume these are spammy/fake profiles.
I was thinking of looking into twellow.com or twiends.com. Any experience with these? How do you get your first 500 followers?
Also any other ideas? AND Does the follow back model work i.e. you follow me and I follow you.... I would of thought healthy twitter accounts for more followers than people you are following.... Discuss...

RE: Can I be penalized for offering incentives for links and social followers?
ContentBurner looks dodgy as hell!!! - Punchtab looks ok.... Social and likes are becoming more and more important - at this stage I'm not sure if Google has a way of tracking "fake" or "forced" social followers/likes. The whole point of a social campaign is to generate interest it is better to have 100 engaged followers than 10000 followers who ignore your brand. Look at paddypower or dawsons music as they have successful social campaigns.

RE: Hi I wanted to clarify whether what I am describing is a link wheel and is this black hat ?
Send the PM - I'm curious - I want to analyse their site. Plus what are the sites you are comparing i.e. yours and their clients....
-
RE: Hi I wanted to clarify whether what I am describing is a link wheel and is this black hat ?
Dodgy and risky as hell!!! If the sites have nothing in common and link in time it will all fall apart. At this stage I think it's risky but probably getting away with it....
Go on rat on the company or at least private message me the name... I'm curious

RE: Setting Up Google Analytics for domains with 301
Any ideas why/how the domainb.com/domainc.com/domaind.com is showing data on analytics even though they are 302s (and one is 301) to domaina.com?
Does that make sense?
-
RE: Setting Up Google Analytics for domains with 301
Yeah I assumed that .... so why is domainb,c,d showing traffic on analytics when there are not sites/code for those domains as they just 302 to domaina.com
-
RE: Explaining 301 redirects instead of 302
- yay! I will try.
You see it's harder to explain than you think!

RE: Explaining 301 redirects instead of 302
Exactly!!! lol - Any ideas? It's hard to explain to a non pc person....
-
RE: Explaining 301 redirects instead of 302
I know what it means! lol I am trying to think of a way to explain it to someone not into SEO or website i.e. a laymans response! - How to phrase it in simple terms....

RE: Explaining 301 redirects instead of 302
They don't understand link juice....

Setting Up Google Analytics for domains with 301
I have a client with a google analytics account that is a mess.
domainb.com 302's to domaina.com
domainc.com 302's to domaina.com
domaind.com 302's to domaina.com
I thought the client was doing 301s on all these domains to the primary domain. I have logged into there analytics account and found data is being tracked on the other domains i.e domainb,c,d.com etc. How is it possible that google analytics is tracking data on these domains when no analytics code has been created and the urls are redirecting to domaina.com? Also there are not sites on these domains so for webmaster tools should I enable domain verification through a cname on the dns?
Also I can I best setup a way to track traffic coming from say domainb.com? Whats the best step by step guide to use to set this up.

Explaining 301 redirects instead of 302
I am trying to explain in layman's terms to a client why using 302 for their redirects (which they have done themselves) is not right. There view is they do not seem to listen or believe what is being said to them and do not want to do permanent damage to the old domain so are using 302 redirects. I have explained over and over 301 is needed but I do not seem to be good at communicating this. Can someone give me a good example or description I can use to get my point across?

RE: Facbook like button - where to?
Hope I've helped.
If you were on about the benefit to your page rankings from having a like button then there isn't one - but that is not the point of the facebook like/share button.
What's the URL?
-
RE: Facbook like button - where to?
In your case definitely the share/like button. A fixed link to be facebook page would not really benefit as it does not require any interaction. Just a link to a page. What you need is to encourage them to "challenge" their friends and the share/like button would achieve this - or give free points/games/bonuses for sharing/liking. A like/share by a user causes a post to appear on there news feed and all their friends would see it and thus give you a chance of more people clicking it and thus getting traffic.
-
RE: Facbook like button - where to?
It might be worth asking your yourself if you need it at all - I consult for a specialist shoe company with older clients/customers and I think their is no benefit in going mad on integrating social buttons on there website as who is going to share a link for an pair of shoes for an old person.
Ask yourself what you are trying to achieve? Why do you think you want the button? Are your website visitors going to use it. It might be better to have a footer link to your facebook page and put something else there like a free delivery button or price match.
If you go with the footer link make it a no follow link.
Just an idea

RE: High PR Profile backlinks
KnowEm is a great site. I think these sort of accounts (profiles etc) should be done for brand management rather than SEO.

RE: Whats the quickest way to measure inbound linkes to an inner page?
Might be worth trying Bing webmaster tools, Google webmasters tools (both count inbound links and ahrefs.com.
Hope this helps

RE: Optimising a page for multiple keywords
Cool thanks for this - I tried searching the SEOMoz site but could not find these.
I will see how things go.

Optimising a page for multiple keywords
I remember reading a question a while back about seo for a page targetting multiple keywords but I'm blowed if I can find it now....
I have a page which is optimised for one phrase and want to add 5-6 phrases/keywords... obviously I can't stuff the all the keywords in the page title or the header 1 tag. So I have written the content to mention the other keywords trouble is not wanting to compromise the quality of the page so of the keywords/phrases I have only been able to use once in the content. I assumed as the phrases are all on the same topic/area that this should not really matter.
Apart from link building with the correct anchor text is there anything else I should be doing?
The other option is to create custom pages for the keyword but again I am not keen on this idea....
Any suggestions?

RE: Focus on guest blogging not working; what's the best quick fix?
4. No. Flash is dead! Deal with it and move on to jquery.
I have some questions.... please bare with me...
1. How many clients do you have?
2. Are they a profitable client?
3. Are you able to build websites yourself?
4. Do you know or have a trusted developer (if you can not do it yourself)
5. Does the client have a bit of a budget to justify getting the site built on a CMS like Joomla.
Please get back to me....
