I use a small independent who owns his own servers. Service is brilliant - based in Cheltenham. Can send his details if you are interested. I switched from fasthosts and cheapnames.

RE: Parked & primary domains
Parked domains usually 301 to another domain. I guess they do it because they think it is the best thing to do. These days the general public are used to typing in a domain and clicking it and it redirects to another site. If you have two separate product types I think you should have 2 totally separate websites.

RE: Focus on guest blogging not working; what's the best quick fix?
Just checked some of your links. You have some bad links i.e. http://www.twipit.com/ (a malware infected site) - http://www.juicyworm.com/tag/wireless/ - http://www.dokisoft.com/inbuilding-wireless-solutions-the-future-of-communication/
These are just a few. You need to work on the quality of the blogs you are posting to. Why not try some better known ones like read, write, web, lifehacker etc.... You do have some good ones though i.e. http://www.cleverdude.com/ is a good to have.
But I stand by what I say ON SITE IS MOST IMPORTANT!

RE: Parked & primary domains
Hi,
You need to pick one of the domains as your primary domain and focus on it. Have the other domain 301 redirect to the primary domain. Having 2 domains with the same site is silly, confusing and very bad SEO.
What is your reason for wanting 2 domains separate? Did your website designer not advise you that this was a bad idea?
Cheers
Jon

RE: Focus on guest blogging not working; what's the best quick fix?
Just to clarify. You did not build the site? The client who owns the site is employing you for SEO? Correct.
It might be me but it appears a lot of the "blogs" you have posted on are not showing back links let using the SEO Moz tools. (I will look elsewhere when I have some time to look into this). Can you list so sample posts so I check the quality of the blogs.
Seriously though you need to focus on the on site problems or you will get no where. Off site should be focused on AFTER on site problems are fixed.
Basics.
1. Is it me or is there NO SITEMAP? BIG ISSUE.
2. Page titles, meta descriptions and content correct for each page/keyword
3. Header 1 tags used on right pages with right keywords.
4. Remove Flash.
LOADS MORE but not got time to go into it.... (the priority might be a bit off)

RE: Pro/Cons of JUST using Google Analytics
Totally agree using more than one tool is about verifying data! This is the argument I am trying to make but making sure I come up with a good list of points....
What tool(s) do you use?
-
RE: Pro/Cons of JUST using Google Analytics
Not arguing GA is not the best/good etc... It's about only using GA. You yourself admit you use WMA.... Why don't you just use GA?
-
Pro/Cons of JUST using Google Analytics
I find myself in a situation where I am having to defend why purely relying on just Google Analytics for site data i.e. exit pages, keywords, bounce rate etc... is not good practise.
So I thought/wondered if other people have come up against this.
What are the Pro and Cons for ONLY using Google Analytics for your site data....

RE: Guest Posts/Blogs/Articles Link Building

Guest Posts/Blogs/Articles Link Building
Is it me or are the usual places you used to go for to find quality blogs to guest post to seem to be full of low quality spammy blogs. And doing a search brings up loads of poor quality sites/blogs too.
I was thinking of creating a high quality content site for link bait.
Any suggestions on "refreshing" a tired link strategy. Where do you find your guest blog/posts?

RE: Domain with a Virus History
I did... and appealed and they say it's a community based system and to get more reviews.... coughs CON coughs... BUT one or two anti virus sites (the free ones) use there database to mark blacklisted site....

RE: Domain with a Virus History
What were you webhosting company able to do?
What sort of problems did you have? Find it hard to solve?
I assume over time and with good links, content and traffic it will sort itself out...

RE: What is the BEST eCommerce platform ?
Magento is a very good open source commerce CMS - and also support multiple front-ends. I totally recommend it BUT you will may need someone to help you set it up and customise it. Also it is a resource hungry solution so you would need to make sure your hosting can support it, some hosting companies will not even host a Magento site.
What are you trying to do? I assume you use BigCommerce as it's easy and needs no coding etc...
Happy to give you advise about it.

Domain with a Virus History
Hi,
I have a domain that I am working on that has a past we did not know about. Doing a bit of research it appears that back in 2010 the domain had a link to a virus or had a virus on the domain – because of this certain anti virus sites are blocking the domain. Interestingly Google, Norton, Firefox say the domain is fine.... IE, Kaspersky and a few still block it. I am going through and manually searching and trying to get them to agree the site is safe BUT I am having a problem with mywot.com. They refuse to take down the “reviews” staying its a virus site. Anything I can do? Any suggestions? Any legal action we can take?
Is there anything else I can do or should be doing to check else where?
Thanks in advance

Link Pages/Directory
Hello,
What is best practise for dealing with alot of links.
I was thinking of breaking them download to alphabet pages i.e. all A on one page etc... BUT should I then make the links clickable on this list OR that they load to a sub company page which has a clickable link to there website.

RE: Please share CloudFlare experience
Thanks. I am looking into putting Piwik on my server to have another source so I can compare with GA.

RE: Paid Blog Posts getting Deindexed?
They are low quality blogs/sites. And do not seem relevant to your industry!! Not surprised the links vanished.

Do you want a link to a few of them and the company you employed?

RE: Why is a website with no backlinks beating me?
Out of interest how did you find out a Google Penalty or is this just a guess best on the poor quality links?

RE: Please share CloudFlare experience
How are you getting on? Still happy? What are the analytics like? Giving you anything you can't get from Google Analytics?

RE: Why is a website with no backlinks beating me?
Right sorted....
http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.japaneseautocentre.com.au
They have a 301 redirect from www.japaneseautocentre.com.au TO www.edwardless.com.au
Hope this helps!
Also go and read my thoughts on Link Building Strategies on this other question...

RE: Why is a website with no backlinks beating me?
Unfortunately Open Site Explorer is not perfect!!! The internet is big and it cannot index EVER site.
Have you tried using other backchecker tools? (sorry I can't think of any at the moment I will edit later)
They do have backlinks going to them:- i.e. A quick search and I found:-

RE: How do you determine the level of an SEO
Yes agree... if you are just focusing on the on-site SEO you are still a beginner... SEO is moving more towards marketing as well so you need people that can think outside the box as it is getting harder and harder to get a good link profile these days!
-
RE: Free Classified Backlinks & Google
I'm not sure if it would de-index your site BUT it will definately not help. You need a balanced link profile from good authority sites with both followed and no follow links (obviously more followed). If you just have a link profile with just followed links and they are all from directory sites (which tend to have low authority - not all but most) you will risk google penalising you.
I would recommend creating a balance strategy to link buidling. Posting in Blogs with a high readership and good reputation, joining a popular and well used forum and actively get involved, a hand full of directories with non spammy links, social sites, news or information sites (email them and ask for a link).... These are just a few ideas... Also you want to make sure your links are balanced and use a variety of different anchor text and not overly optimised keyword text.
Google's algorithm is updated 100's of times a year so you never know when they will start penalising a certain type of link or text or tags etc...
EDIT: Found something that shows a great idea for a strategy and I strongly success you read it!

Can Open Site Explorer work on twitter profile pages? Or is the fact twitter is on https still an issue for crawling open site explorer?

Two Tier Internet, Bad Blogs and One page Affiliate Sites
Hi,
I start a post on a popular internet marketing forum about how bad blogs - (i.e. the ones with one posts of over optimise spun garbage) - and the one page affiliate sites - trying to sell you something... (you know the ones) - were REALLY starting to annoy me and if/when something would be done by ISP's or Anyone really. Obviously google is aware of the issue with trying to push Google Plus to crowd source better search results. But with more and more sites popping up telling people how they can make money from having a niche website/page with adwords on it aren't we fast moving to a two tier internet.... How websites/pages exist purely to game search engines.... and will they ever disappear....
Sorry mini rant..... might even get some ideas for a blog post (not on a bad blog before anyone says anything)

RE: Why is the SEOmoz customer service on this site so awful?
I can see your point here. i.e. They should be working with you not against you! If you were not satisfied did you ask to speak to a manager and escalate your complaint?
My 2 cents... Whenever I have contacted SEOMoz (either on the phone or email) they are always helpful and friendly.

RE: Can anyone recommend a great seo company?
How deep are your pockets. A great SEO company costs money. Just so you know you get what you pay for. avoid anyone that offers guaranteed results/positions in google.
You pay peanuts you get monkeys!

RE: Poor Links - SEO SpyGlass
When I was naive and innocent I looked into software and came to the conclusion it is a rip off. I feel the SEO SpyGlass is attempting to "cheat" and "manipulate" on a job that you can't really cheat on.
Are you adverse to joining SeoMoz? The benefit of joining things like SeoMoz or Raven is that the tools are always improving and staying up to date with the search engines. Where as with software you have no guarantee that the company who made that software will be in business in the future so they will not keep updating it.
All I can say is try the Free SeoMoz and Raven trails and see what you think of the tools. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

## Analysis and Recommendations * TOTAL_HTML - Congratulations, the total number of HTML files on this page (including the main HTML file) is 1 which most browsers can multithread. Minimizing HTTP requests is key for web site optimization. Y * TOTAL_OBJECTS - Caution. You have 20 total objects on this page. From 12 to 20 objects per page, the latency due to object overhead makes up from 75% to 80% of the delay of the average web page. See Figure II-3: [Relative distribution of latency components showing that object overhead dominates web page latency](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/secrets/performance/II-3-object-overhead.html) in [Website Optimization Secrets](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/secrets/) for more details. Consider reducing, eliminating, and combining external objects (graphics, CSS, JavaScript, iFrames and XHTML) to reduce the total number of objects, and thus separate HTTP requests. Consider using [CSS sprites](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/tweak/css-sprites/) to help consolidate decorative images. * TOTAL_IMAGES - Caution. You have a moderate amount of images on this page (14 ). Consider using fewer images on the site or try reusing the same image in multiple pages to take advantage of caching. Using CSS techniques such as colored backgrounds, borders, or spacing instead of graphic techniques can help reduce HTTP requests. * TOTAL_SIZE - Warning! The total size of this page is 315393 bytes, which will load in 66.86 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 100K to achieve sub 20 second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback. Consider optimizing your site with [Website Optimization Secrets](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/secrets/), [_Speed Up Your Site_](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/) or [contacting us](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/contact/) about our optimization services. * TOTAL_SCRIPT - Caution. The total number of external script files on this page is 5 , consider reducing this to one or two. Combine, refactor, and minify to [optimize your JavaScript](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/tweak/javascript-optimization/) files. Ideally you should have one (or even embed scripts for high-traffic pages) on your pages. Consider [suturing JavaScript files together](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/tweak/suture/) at the server to minimize HTTP requests. Placing external JavaScript files at the bottom of your BODY, and CSS files in the HEAD enables progressive display in XHTML web pages. * HTML_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of this HTML file is 12545 bytes, which less than 50K. Assuming that you specify the HEIGHT and WIDTH of your images, this size allows your HTML to display content in under 10 seconds, the average time users are willing to wait for a page to display without feedback. * IMAGES_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your images is 207700 bytes, which is over 100K. Consider [switch graphic formats](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/tweak/graphic-optimization/%3Eoptimizing%20images%3C/a%3E%20for%20size,%20combining%20them,%20and%20replacing%20graphic%20rollovers%20with%20CSS.%20You%20can%20often%20%3Ca%20href=) to achive smaller file sizes (from JPEG to PNG for example). Finally, substitute CSS techniques for graphics techniques to create colored borders, backgrounds, and spacing. * SCRIPT_SIZE - Warning! The total size of external your scripts is 95148 bytes, which is over 20K. Consider [optimizing your JavaScript](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/tweak/javascript-optimization/) for size, combining them, and using [HTTP compression](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/tweak/compress/) where appropriate for any scripts placed in the HEAD of your documents. You can substitute [CSS menus](http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/tweak/cssmenus/) for JavaScript-based menus to minimize or even eliminate the use of JavaScript. * MULTIM_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of all your external multimedia files is 0 bytes, which is less than 10K. Testing your code and site
I’ve got various WordPress websites with the Share This social plugin for WordPress. I have been using Firebug and http://analyze.websiteoptimization.com/wso to do general checks on the site and the code. And used W3C validator too.
Due to the way WordPress appears to work we never seem to be able to get all the firebug/ website optimization tests to pass and the W3C validator passes everything on HTML 5 apart from 7 errors with the Share This social plugin.
How do you test your code/websites? Should I stop be a perfectionist and just be happy?

RE: How long until Social Spam achieves the same notoriety/problem as Link Spam used to be
Maybe they will analyse how many links are put into social posts? If someone just posts with links in them it will treat them as spam. Also I think search will look into sharing how many times something is shared/re-shared/re-tweeted etc? It's a numbers game as Dr Pete said is his last video you have to try and stay ahead as google made 600+ changes to search last year....
