You also have to keep in mind that users will access your site from mobile devices and that the larger the page the longer it takes to load fully. You may lose some people during the time it takes to load the page. My website used to have a slider with three images. i removed the slider and replaced it with one static image. Large pictures tend to be bad for user experience.

So with the exception of keyword ranking the data in Moz is mostly useless?

The option to change the URL is grayed out. Is there a way to do this or do I have to create a whole new campaign?

My domain authority dropped by 2 points and page authority dropped by 1. From what I gather DA/PA are meaningless metric but I suppose it feels good for both to be high.

SEO is too important for the small business owner to outsource it to anyone. Learn to do SEO yourself and you won't have to worry about all these shady practitioners.

Now is there anything that can be done to report webmasters engaging in black hat seo? Would you guys even report it? Has anyone had any success reporting webspam to Google?

One of my competitors has been doing this exact thing and have been rewarded by ranking well in Google. I don't even think reporting web spam to Google even works. I can't understand how they haven't been deindexed or penalized for this.

Pardon my ignorance but what's a  50 plus penalty?

I'm actually interested in this topic and have been doing some research on it. I'm still not 100% clear on the descriptor guidelines from Google and, as a result, i haven't used it. One of my concerns is that if I use the descriptor in the business name that it will trigger the business verification process again. Also i'm scared of putting something in the descriptor that might get my listing removed. I'll just wait until Google clarifies their policy.

Would it be possible for you to change hosts?

Is it a best practice to place your company's phone number in the meta description for a page? Are there any rules as to what is acceptable for meta tags? One of our competitors recently started doing this but for some reason I think it might be against Google's guidelines. They (competitor) is also engaging in web spam, plagiarizing our content,  and other black hat techniques so I'm leery of anything they do.

Great question. I'm actually interesting in doing something similar with my site. I'm just waiting for the experts to chime in.
