Mr Freedman makes some great points. Typically short and sweet is a more ideal approach. Sometimes timing and day of the week can have a dramatic effect as well. What are you typical CTA's and how clear is that action point? I might suggest Litmus if you are not already using it. We have found that handcoding responsive emails and running it through Litmus gives us a decent bump.

I have never used it but try implementing the Smart Paging module + Tokens - http://drupal.org/project/smart_paging

RE: Drupal duplicate pages
First off make sure that you are using htaccess to redirect to either www or without www. Be aware that EVERYTIME you update Drupal core that you may override this file and it revert back to the default file. I make this mistake often.
If you want to share your site I can take a look other than that the canonical should take care of the rest.

RE: Duplicate content vs. less content
The -0 is Drupal's way of handling duplicate page titles, duplicate file names etc. You may indeed have an issue where two "nodes" are being generated. If this is the case you are basically creating a competitor for yourself.
Do you want to share the site and two URL's that are duplicated?

RE: Rel=Canonical Header Location
Are you using Nodewords? http://drupal.org/project/nodewords
The canonical tag should appear just below the regular node where you add meta description etc. This will put it in as it is supposed to be. You can also integrate it with tokens so that it grabs the absolute URL.

RE: Drupal SEO - Concerns about cloaking
I was really concerned when I started developing in Drupal 7 and noticed that many themes had this programmed in.
Although I have not performed any specific split test on taking this out I had not noticed any misfortunes or penalties by having it in the template as you have stated. I also crawl my sites many times over with different tools and I have not received warnings etc.
Nonetheless I moved over to the Omega Theme, which is responsive, and the semantic programming is much better for my taste.

RE: Using Drupal to Author Websites across 2 Domains
Fascinating. If it works and suites your needs that is what matters.

RE: Drupal Updates = errors
Did you get a handle on this? My guess is that you are on Drupal 7 and the metatags module and were victim of new releases that produced duplicates or some other issue.

RE: Using Drupal to Author Websites across 2 Domains
I know this is extremely late but I am curious as to the results of this. Did you use the feeds / services module to accomplish it?
My thought would be to use a taxonomy and a token to state which site was the main publishing site by declaring an canonical URL.

RE: Easy way to import metadata into Drupal 7?
The only way that I am aware of would be to create a spreadsheet that matches the format of the metatag table in your database then creating a pattern using concatenation. The result would be an output to your data field that looked like - a:1:{s:11:"description";a:1:{s:5:"value";s:53:"This is a change for testing purpose in the database.";}}
I sure would not attempt this on a live site and if you dont have a sandbox set up for it already it might not be worth your time.
Another danger in uploading it would be how the cache_metatag table would be influenced.
Overall, unless you have thousands and thousands of entities I would do it the manual way.
