Hi,

We've done mod-rewrite to our .php files to show .htm files several years ago for SEO purposes.

My question is, doing this has become a hassle for adding new pages, etc. and I'd like to make a clean break with the .htm and move to their real file names and or directories (e.g. company.htm --> /company/ ).

What kind of ranking penalty am I looking at if we switch? We're a small company with billion dollar competitors so a rank loss would be fairly devastating.

I assume I'd need to do 301 redirects for all of the old file names (obviously yes for the change from page to directories) but for each individual page?

Hi Keri,

Unfortunately, I have not found a good solution yet. Was going to literally have my developer hand code each FAQ page from our SupportSuite Kayako helpdesk to get around this issue.

I've heard of drupal but never dealt with it  - do you have any idea what software runs SEOmoz's Q&A or, for example, this site: http://www.incorporationanswers.org/ ?

So I just read an SEOMoz post about the great SEO benefits of Question and Answer sites (or sections of sites) - much like the Q&A section I'm in right now.

I did some googling and haven't really found a good software for implementing (installing, skinning, integrating, etc.) a Q&A section on my website. There are a few out there, but they are pretty basic, nothing like this site or Yahoo Answers.

Anyone know of good software (i'm on a PHP server) to implement Q&A on my site? Something that has the look and feel of this site or answers.yahoo.com, etc.?

We use Kayako Supportsuite (help desk and FAQ software) installed on our site and it's causing about 80% of all our SEO errors/issues.

I've googled a lot and I can't seem to find a FAQ software (we need the ability to maintain and constantly update a large # of questions) that doesn't have duplication (print version, pdf version of each question, etc.), terrible URL structure and an overall very cheesy look. We don't need the helpdesk part, just FAQ functionality.

Anybody have any ideas?
