The problem is there was redirection between the old branded site and the new one, and now when you type in the name of the old brand, the new one comes up. I have desperately tried to convince this client there is nothing we can do about it, dozens of news articles crop up with the two brands together as this was a hot topic a few years ago, but just in case I missed something I thought I'd ask the community of experts here on Moz. An example for this would be Tyco Healthcare that became covidien in 2007. When you type tyco healthcare, covidien crops up here and there. Any ideas? Thanks!

A client rebranded a few years ago and doesn't want to be associated with it's old brand name. He wishes not to appear when the old brand is searched in Google, is there something we can do?

I'm just wondering : if I don't put the canonical on the "pros.nl" homepage -> that means this domain will still keep most of its link juice right (since most backlinks refer to the homepage) ??
Since my goal is to transfer all the link juice to "individuals.nl" (while keep it accessible for navigation)... don't you think my idea of putting the canonical everywhere (and buying the brand through Paid Search to remain visible on SERP) make sense ?

Let's say my client has 2 webshops (that exists since long time, so many backlinks & good authority on both) :
- individuals.nl : for individuals (has 200 backlinks, let's say)
- pros.nl : exact same products, exact same content, but with a different branding intended to professionnals (has 100 backlinks, let's say)
So, both websites are 99% identical and it has to remain like that !!! Obviously, this creates duplicate content issues.
Goal : I want "individuals.nl" to get all ranking value (while "pros.nl" should remain accessible through direct access & appear on it's own brand queries).
Solution ?

Implement canonical tags on "pros**.nl**" that goes to "individuals.nl". That way, "individuals.nl" will get all ranking value, while "pros.nl" will still be reachable through direct access.
However, "individuals.nl" will then replace "pros.nl" from SERP in the long-term. The only thing I want is to keep "pros.nl" visible for its own brand queries -> it won't be possible through organic search result, so, I'm just gonna buy those "pros" queries through paid search !

Put links on all pages of pros.nl to individuals.nl (but not the other way around), so that "pros.nl" will pass some ranking value to "individuals.nl" (but only a small part of the ranking value -> ideally, I would like to pass all link value to this domain).
Could someone advise me ??? (I know it sound a bit complicated... but I don't have much choice ^^)

Thanks, that was my sentiment all along. Unfortunately my client asks for quick wins. With no clear data in the banking sector to show a difference with/without markup, I can't really make a compelling case. One area where there might be a quick win is in marking up all their branches addresses. For some local searches they rank pretty badly (like >10) and don't show up in the first three local results, do you think that could make a difference in google local snippets? If you have some more links for case srudies I would greatly appreciate them!

Schema for Banks and SEO
I'm researching Schema opportunities for a bank, but besides the shema markup available today (like bankorcreditunion) and developments with FIBO, I can find no answer as to the effect of tagging interest rates and such in terms of SERP/CTR performance or visibility. Does anyone have a case study to share or some insight on the matter?

Can an AJAX framework (using HTML5 + pushstate) on your site impact your ranking?
Hello everybody,
I am currently investigating a website which is rendered by an AJAX Framework (Angularjs) using the HTML5 +API history - Pushstate methods.
Recently Google announced that they are able to execute Javascript and can therefore see the content and links to discover all pages in the structure.However it seems that it doesn't run the Javascript at ALL times. (after some internal testing)
So technically it is possible it arrives on a page without seeing any content and links, while another time he can arrive, run Javascript and read/discover the content and links generated by AJAX.
The fact that Google can't always interpret or read the website correctly can therefore have negative SEO impact? (not the indexation process but ranking)We are aware that is better to create a snapshot of the page but in the announcement of Google they state that the method that is currently used, should be sufficient.
Does anybody have any experience with this AND what is the impact on the ranking process?

How to get backlinks from Https websites with OSE?
Hi guys,
Any ideas how can we get/check the backlinks from securized websites (https) using Open Site Explorer? It seems we cannot change the protocol (http:// by default).
