We use Bing for the search volume estimations regardless of the search engine you select. Google doesn't share their search volume information with us, so we aren't able to include Google search volume in the tool. Still, the Keyword Difficulty score that we calculate does take the search engine into account, so if you're looking to get a sense of how difficult it is to rank in the top 10 in Google, our difficulty score will reflect that.

Pixelbypixel is right. Moz does offer some strong tools to help with Duplicate Content. Check out this article about how we crawl your site for this and how you may be able to fix it. http://moz.com/help/guides/search-overview/crawl-diagnostics/duplicate-content

RE: My Campaigns Missing
Hey hey hey!
Sorry for the scare there! Your campaigns are probably archived. The good news is that reviving archived accounts is really simple.
Go to your Campaigns section: http://pro.moz.com/campaigns
At the top of the page there is a "Archived Campaigns" Tab, give it a click.
From here, you should easily be able to "activate" your campaigns.Hope this helps! Please let us know if you need any other assistance.

RE: When is UK version of Get Listed returning
Hey Antony!
Thanks for writing in. As of now, we aren't sure. I know we've had issues getting non-US data providers to open up and let us look at listings, so it has been a challenge. Sorry about the vagueness of my reply, but it's been tough for us to get other "local" data. We hope to have some big changes to GetListed! early next year, so be on the look out. Also please give us more feedback on the feature request forum where others can vote up features they're looking for: https://seomoz.zendesk.com/forums/293194-Moz-Feature-Requests
Thanks!

Keyword Research and Tracking Tips?
Keyword research is elusive thing. Sort of like Bigfoot. Well… not really.
Rand actually does an excellent job explaining how to get started in his Moz Academy lesson on Keyword Research. Check that link out!
I want to get the same type of conversation started on Q&A. I'll let everyone know how I’ve learned to do KW research. Please let me know how you do it!!!!!
The first thing you’ll want to do is create a list of keywords you feel like your brand should target. I would start with what you offer, your brand, and how you want people to find you.
- Brand – Obviously you want to rank for your brand. First thing you want to do is see how people are searching for you brand. Use Ubersuggest for this. This tool will give a huge list of ways Google is suggesting results to people. Take that list and look at one’s that relate to your service, product, or content and save them in a spreadsheet. This will let you start tackling longer tail keywords before you focus in on your exact brand.
- What do you offer? – Think to yourself; how would I find my own service? Let’s say you sell air conditioners. You should check out Wordtracker to get a sense of how many people are searching for “air conditioners.” Then look at the other suggestions Wordtracker gives. These suggestions are usually terms that you want to invest some research into, because people are actually searching for them. A lot of people don’t focus their efforts… They end up using a wide net, which is fine, it’s just hard to measure success and build good quality content around too many terms.
Alright! Let’s say you have list ready to go. It’s time to do some competitive research. I’d start with the Keyword Difficulty tool section of Moz Analytics. If you’re new to keyword research you want to try a longer-tail keyword. Something like “air conditioners on sale” instead of just “air conditioners.”
When you put a term in the Keyword Difficulty tool you’ll see the top ten people ranking for this term. These are based on Domain Authority and Page Authority. This is great way to size up the competition based on how strong their link profile is!
Don’t stop there. If you see some lower authority scores in the top ten, then I’d consider it low hanging fruit. Run a full report now.
There’s going to be a lot of information here, but I’d like to focus your attention to the On-page stuff. Check that data out. Look to see how well pages in the top ten are optimized(do they have A, B, C, D, or F grades?). If they’re mostly floating around the B and C grade range; try to optimize an existing page you want to rank for the term or create some new content.
When you have a page built drop it in our standalone On-page optimization tool to get a guide on how should use your keyword. You can also use Moz Analytics’ On-page tool to track these grades in combination with your rankings data. Just keep tracking it here!
How do you go about KW research and tracking? Let me know if you have any feedback on this process and please detail your own if you have time. I’d love to here what ya’ got.

RE: Help us with Moz Academy!
Good ideas. I will talk to Rand about using specific case studies. I know he likes to talk about other what other companies are doing, but maybe we can pinpoint it a little more.
-
RE: Help us with Moz Academy!
Love all the ideas here Gagan!
I like all the topics you cover here. #5 = That's a lot of visits to generate a year, but I think we can manage something about driving up traffic.

RE: Help us with Moz Academy!
Hey!
Are you talking about the 2nd video on the Inbound section? This one: http://moz.com/academy/marketing-funnel
Thanks for the help!
-
RE: Help us with Moz Academy!
Whoa! Excellent suggestion. I love the idea of adding a section about building a great company and I know Rand is extremely passionate + knowledgable about the topic. I will put something in the queue for that type curriculum and send out an internal email to get some ideas around it. Many thanks for the awesome and well thought out suggestion.

RE: How do you do your video transcriptions on Whiteboard Friday's?
Hey!
Good question and Mike's answer is partially right. In addition to their awesome turn around for transcriptions, Speechpad is also a great company and we like their values! So we decided to stick with them. Wistia launched their transcription service after we had been using Speechpad for a while, so rather than just jump ship on Speechpad we stuck with them because we think they are cool. We also think Wistia is the coolest ever and have stuck with them and will continue to until the world ends ;).
Also, check this out! http://www.seomoz.org/blog/tips-for-filming-whiteboard-presentations I wrote a blog post about a lot of our processes for WBF. It could be helpful for you in the future.

Hey there,
There is not way to track ROI or revenue through our SEO tools. Sorry about the confusion. Here is a good article about ROI and KWs http://voices.yahoo.com/web-analytics-tracking-seo-keyword-roi-success-10801793.html?cat=15
Thanks for the great question and your patience.

RE: Duplicate content pages
Hey there!
Thanks for writing in.
I downloaded the CSV from your Travel Pack campaign. It looks like all of the duplicate content pages are in the CSV that I exported. I found them by sorting the the rows in Excel. Here is a good guide on how to get started sorting in Excel: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/sort-data-in-a-range-or-table-HP010073947.aspx
Thanks!

RE: Does Rogerbot recognize rel="alternate" hreflang="x"?
Hey there,
Rogerbot doesn't look for rel alts. The bot will follow meta robots, rel canonical (more used way to controlling duplicate content) and 301 redirects. Sorry about the confusion.
Best,
Nick

RE: Integration of Google+, LinkedIn, YouTube?
Hey Jake,
Thanks a ton for writing in! We are hoping to add G+ and LinkedIn in the future. We don't have a timeline for that though.
We really appreciate feedback and feature requests; they help us decide what parts of our software development to prioritize. Here's the feature request forum we use to collect ideas:
http://seomoz.zendesk.com/forums/293194-seomoz-pro-feature-requests
You can vote for features you'd like to see and suggest your own, both of which help our product team in deciding what to build next. Add your request there and hopefully we'll see it come to fruition sometime down the line. Thanks again, and best of luck with your SEO!
Have a great day,

RE: Do SEOmoz private questions get answered?
Hey Carolina,
Sorry about the confusion! It looks like the last QA question you have submitted was an hour ago under the title:
How important are tags on blogs?
If you have a link to your private question to send me I would love to take a look at it. If you didn't get an email confirmation, then my guess is that it didn't post and was lost in the internet wasteland. Sorry about that.
Best,
Nick

Hey William and Alan,

RE: Number of available links limited?
Hi there, We don't typically provide QA support for the Free Mozscape API.
I encourage you to post your question to our Dev Discussion forum: http://seomoz.zendesk.com/forums/293196-developer-discussion-group. Our engineering community monitors that and you will probably get a response within 48 hours.
We prefer to do any API support through our forum because that way other people in the community can benefit from the discussion. Making the support scalable allows us to keep offering the API as a free service. I hope you understand.
However, if you would like increased rate limits (10 r/s), additional metrics and email support, we suggest you upgrade to the paid version of our Mozscape API. If you'd like to upgrade, send a note to andrew@seomoz.org or just respond to this email and we'll get your account set up.
Looking forward to seeing your post in the Dev Discussion group!
Best,
Nick

RE: Shooting Video: What hardware would you recommend?
Hey Rob!
Thanks for writing in! I would recommend you spend that money on lights. If you want to light a WB you will need something with a soft box on it. We use four lights to light our presentations. Two on the sides and two in front of the presenter. As far as a camera goes any HD point and shoot would be fine. I usually stick with Panasonic and Lumix lenses. When you are looking at mics, just look for a cheap audio technica with a mini plug in (most cameras you will be looking at won't have XLR).
Again I would focus on lighting.
Hope this helps a little!

RE: May not have a /path after the host
Hey everyone!
You can track either a root domain or subdomain in our rankings tab. You are going to want to track the domain that is ranking in Google. For instance don't track amazon.com because www.amazon.com is how they appear in SERPS. You can't track directories in rankings for competitors because it is a very narrow view of rankings. We include all directories for the domain you are tracking so it will be automatically pulled in and you will get the directory rankings regardless. Sorry about the confusion. Check out some of our documentation on rankings to get an even deeper look at what we offer: http://www.seomoz.org/help/rankings
Hope this helps!

RE: Old data in OSE?
Hey Rich!
Thanks for writing in and sorry for the confusion there! It looks like the number that you're looking at in the Web App Competitive Domain Analysis tab is the total amount of links to the entire subdomain, but the number you're looking at in Open Site Explorer is the total amount of links to that page only. Sorry about the ambiguity there! The numbers at the top of OSE all pertain solely to that URL rather than to the whole subdomain or root domain, but you can get information about the whole subdomain or root domain by going here (as an example): http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/www.seomoz.org/a!metrics. Here's a screenshot of the numbers: http://markup.io/v/djd8djeptg5n. You can also look at all the links going to the sub/root domain by changing the filters in the "Linking Pages" tab.

RE: Looking for a recommendation for a site ranking comparison tool.
Hey again!
Check out our On Page reports. You can optimize each page for targeted KWs. If you want to see how your competitor is doing with their On Page scores, just use our stand alone On Page tool and run the report from there. Here is a link to the stand alone on page tools: http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/on-page-keyword-optimization/new
Also in the rankings tab there is a little logo with a line graph that appears when you roll over a keyword. If you click that it will take you to a SERP analysis tool. From here you can run a full report and it will show you some On Page metrics. Check out this video: http://www.seomoz.org/help/researching-high-potential-keywords

Hey Larry!
It is extremely important to track rankings vs your competitors! Have you created a campaign with our Web App interface? Here is some great documentation to get you started on creating a campaign: http://www.seomoz.org/help/campaign-setup
With our rankings tab in the PRO Web App you can track three competitors against your domain. Check out this video to get started with your ranking awesomeness. http://www.seomoz.org/help/rankings
Enjoy!

RE: Campaign Churning for Two Days
Hey Larry!
Sometimes larger sites will spin for a while. Sorry about the delay on the starter crawl. I just checked your campaigns out and it looks like you have full crawls for each of them.
Not sure what happened there.

RE: Can I export reports as CSV when signed up for pro trial account?
Hey there!
You can export both CSVs and PDFs in your free trial. You have full access to everything included in a PRO membership on the trial.

RE: Waiting 3 days for Crawl Test to complete
Hey everyone! Sorry about the odd crawl test activity. If you don't mind shooting us an email at help@seomoz.org with your PRO email address and the name of the domain that is stuck we can push then through on the back end. I would grab more information here, but we can't since it is a public forum. :S
Look forward to your emails and sorry about the wait!

RE: Will SEOMoz offer URL data relating to Bot visits
Hey Neil,
To be honest we don't have anything like that in the pipeline. I think you could track that in Google Analytics and see what IPs are requesting information from your site. It is a good idea. I will drop it in our feature request forum.
-
RE: Is it possible for the Keyword Difficulty Report to show more than the top 10?
Hey Tim,
As of now we only pull the top 10. We were looking to add more results in the future, but there is no ETA on that.
-
RE: How can I change the day my keyword rankings are updated?
Hey Richard,
There is no way to update the date yoru rankings are run. Sorry about that! It will go off of the day you create the campaign. So like Todd said you can create the campaign on the day of the week you would like to receive ranking updates.
-
RE: Crawl Diagnostics Update
Hey Pete,
Sorry about the confusion. The crawls kick off a little earlier (3 days before) your actual crawl date, so that may the reason why. It is hard to say without specific dates.

RE: Very Slow Advanced Reports
Hey There,
Extremely sorry about the delay in reports.
We had a unforeseen spike in report exports over the past two days that and really taxed our CSV pipelines. We are experiencing delays of over 24 hours for link reports from Open Site Explorer. We hope to get a few new pipelines open today and our engineers have been working around the clock to get them set up. You reports should be done with a few minutes.
Again our apologies for the wait.
Best,

RE: FF SEOMoz toolbar issue
Thanks for writing in and sorry that you're getting this problem with MozBar. It sounds like a cookies issue - you should definitely make sure that third-party cookies are activated in your browser (I know it seems basic, but it really does help).
This is how you do this: Firefox: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/enabling+and+disabling+cookies Chrome: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=95647 I hope this helps! After you enable all cookies, including third-party, and save the settings, restart your browser and log back in to the SEOmoz.org site. After that, open up the MOZbar and make sure you are logged in (it indicates if you are logged in on top of the page). You should be good to go! If you're still having problems, you may want to clear your cache and cookies as well. Here's how: Firefox: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Clear Recent History#w_how-do-i-clear-my-history (clear at least your cache and cookies) Chrome: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95582 After it's all cleared out, try restarting the browser again and then logging in. You should be set. I hope this helps! Let me know if it doesn't work. Best,
Nick

RE: Rankings Feature Changes

RE: The Keyword Difficulty Tool is not working,
Hi there,
I'm so sorry that you're running into problems with the Keyword Difficulty tool!
Our engineers are aware of the problem and are working to get it resolved as soon as possible.
It's one of our highest priority fixes and we have a team of people dedicated to bringing the tool back to full functionality.
Please let me know if you have questions!
