So I recently had a site added to dmoz.org and I'm wondering if anyone knows when Google Directory & Search.com update their site with new Dmoz.org data? They both use dmoz.org for their directory listings.

Opensiteexplorer more or less takes a representative random sample of the available links. More prominent links have a tendency to be visible on opensiteexplorer rather than majestic seo. Also check out yahoo links.
Customer reviews are important for local SEO. The problem is getting people to review your website.
What are your ideas for encouraging customers to review?
*Give away incentives and ask people to review. E.g. movie tickets, discount on products.
*Ask people to review in sales process.
*Have an ipad ready & custom review website for ipad - ask people to review.
*Page for 'review us' on the site.
*If you are a 'google favorite places' print out QR code for the page & position in-store.
*Make a custom QR printout to a 'review us' page, position in-store.
They do blog/forum commenting but good results.
Couple local SEO questions...
Do you feel it’s better to submit a listing with the full type of street rather than an abbreviation? Google Places sometimes disassociates data because of small differences like this.
Below is an example:
Full Name: 123 Broadway Street
Abbreviation: 123 Broadway St.
Also, I’m wondering if you feel it’s better to submit a local number versus an 800 number. I've modified many local listings for clients manually with an 800 number, but then there are other data sources for these same businesses that are displaying the local number. I am starting to use UBL/LocalEZE and are wondering what people have seen working best... local number or 800 number.
Thanks!
Personally I haven't experienced this deleted reviews situations. I'm seeing plenty of fake reviews.
What is the DQF algorithm?
I agree EGOL, it's very charitable for some of the forum members to give feedback in any capacity.
There are certain influential people on this forum (i'm not naming names) that give answers that don't answer much and are much more a response to a question rather than an actual answer.
Hi,
Has anyone tried making links to a deep links to a page on an external site (like dmoz or the bbb) which has a link to your website?
Of course, you might wonder "it depends on the type of link" you make to this larger site.
Let's say it's a link (without no-follow) on a forum or blog comment - low-quality but on a decent site.
Anyone think this may have some benefit to increase the chance / rate that your own link from another site will be indexed more and provide more benefit? A dmoz link is great, but it's on the backpages because it's a huge site, opensiteexplorer hardly indexes dmoz links.

Nothing. Try again...
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I am using amazon cloud server for some sites, I'll have to look at some creative solutions to get them on different IP blocks or IP's altogether.
Let's say you have 40 websites which share the same IP and you place links to them on a bunch of sites (directories, blogs), albeit on different pages on these sites.
Will search engines (google) see that they use the same IP and start having the links not-pass link juice based on that same IP?
I do not have answers to your questions but I have seen positive results in ranking long-tail searches with YouTube videos.
Let's say I have www.bobswidgets.com. If I have "widgets for sale in tuscon arizona' be the anchor text on an internal link on www.bobswidgets.com/page1 which goes to www.bobswidgets.com/page2 - does the value of the anchor text (widgets for sale in tuscon arizona) get passed internally? External links pass the value of the anchor text but do internal links?
Meaning, if you have a lot of bad quality links (directories, blog comments) that are giving great rankings for some terms (on a homepage of a site), could the low quality of these links negatively affect the crawling frequency of interior pages or perhaps even give interior pages a ranking penalty?
Three tools to render a site as Googlebot would see it:
SEOMoz toolbar.
Lynxviewer (http://www.yellowpipe.com/yis/tools/lynx/lynx_viewer.php )
Fetch as Googlebot.
I have a website where I can see dropdown menus in regular browser rendering, Lynxviewer and Fetch as Googlebot. However, in the SEOMoz toolbar 'render as googlebot' tool, I am unable to see these dropdown menus when I have javascript disabled.
Does this matter? Which of these tools is a better way to see how googlebot views your site?
Are article submissions still relevant after the panda update? Many of these sites (ezinearticles) are still hit from the panda update.
Do you agree with me that their anchor text is too long?
site: http://www.cerritosnissan.com/index.htm
On the bottom of this homepage there is an seo content area, basically right under where it says "orange county nissan" welcomes you. The internal links in this area are very long and I'm wondering why they would do this - is there any benefit to making anchor text longer? The longer the anchor text, the less each part of that anchor text passes link juice.
For example, for a page about their reviews, the anchor text of the link is "See what Cerritos Nissan customers have to say about their experience at this great Orange County Nissan Dealership.". If I would have done this the anchor text would be "Cerritos Nissan Reviews" or just plain "reviews" as the anchor text.
What benefits do you see for using both as opposed to just one?
Regards,
We are between UBL and LocalEZE for our preferred local listing submission vendor.
DIfferences:
*UBL does not have a relationship with local data vendors, but submits to axicom and infousa (as examples) which LocalEZE does not.
*LocalEZE has active feeds set up with many local vendors.
What are your preferences? We are leaning twoard LocalEZE, Razorfish (the agency) is among their notable clients.
What about submitting to both? I would be fearful that the data will overlap.
Let's say you have www.example.com. On this website, you have www.example.com/example-image.jpg. When someone links externally to this image - like below... { is <
{a href="www.example.com/example-image.jpg"} {img src="www.example.com/example-image.jpg"} {/a}
The external site would be using the image hosted on your site, but the image is also linked back to the same image file on your site. Does this have any value even though the link is back to the image file and not the website?
Also - how much value do you guys feel image links have in relation to tech links? In terms of passing link juice and adding to a natural link profile.
Thanks!
Could you clarify what you mean? Are you implying that Yahoo sponsored search is intentionally different?
So if you misspell something (no dns to connect with... unregistered domain as an example) on a browser that uses a Road Runner connection, it takes you to a search engine 'powered by yahoo search' which searches for whatever you typed in.
Anyway, today we noticed that the website of one of our clients isn't coming up in this 'Powered by Yahoo Search' via roadrunner but comes up in Yahoo Search for the same query. In fact, we noticed that our clients website (10 yrs + established site) is missing in yahoo powered by search but on all other engines.
Any clues? I thought this should be generally the same across Yahoo / Yahoo Powered / Bing / Bing Powered.
Could this be using something pre-bing merger?
Majestic SEO always pulls in more links than OSE. OSE tends to pull in a 'random sample' of the total links, it misses many but offers more in-depth data than Majestic SEO besides the total # of links.
I've seen a few companies pop up offering 'facebook likes' for sale. I'm assuming these are all dud accounts that are subject to get deleted in a second if facebook catches on.
Anyone else have something to add?
That's what I figured. What a waste of money.
I would hire an internet marketing agency, but since we are an internet marketing agency, it doesn't make much sense for us to hire ourselves to do this.
Is anyone here a channel partner with Localeze or has subscribed? Any thoughts?
They want a yearly fee and to me this doesn't make sense as all it is doing is sending information to the local listing sites and this should be a one-time deal.
I use linkscape but I'm looking for a tool to manually add in backlinks and make sure they're still active. Linkscape also has a level of filtering where only some domains end up crawled completely.
What solution do you use to keep track of links that you have acquired or purchased?
I edited the question to make it more clear.
It looks like google (regular organic) does not index individual posts from facebook pages often, more likely the wall of the page itself or separate pages. Can someone confirm this?
"You is not happy with link?"
"O K. No probleming. I give you 10,000,000 Free Directory Submission last night, now you will have top google. U pay now?"
For us, any indian/3rd world linkbuilding vendor - do NOT hire them, they will ruin your link profile. If you give them very specific directions & find the right company/guy they can be decent for guerilla (blog/forum/etc) linkbuilding.
What are your experiences?
Make sure that anchor text with your business name is solid part of your link profile.
Our experience as well, generally months on end and an endless stream of duplicated listings. I'm at least looking forward to the listing separator tool they're supposed to release spring/summer '11.
Hi,
On Google Places we have clients that have bad data (incorrect name, address, #) on aggregated sites (citysearch, merchantcircle, yelp) which prevents those sites from pulling into the Google Places accounts. We've been manually correcting listings for a while and many times it still hasn't pulled into the Google Places listings for months on end despite the data matching.
What are your experiences with correcting aggregated Google Places data, how long has it taken for this data to pull into your places accounts?
How would you focus on it anyway? Just sit and wait.
Hi,
Is a natural link profile a ranking signal? What is the value in a natural link profile?
What is a (natural?) link graph? Is Majestic SEO the only company capable of visualizing a link graph?
(I know the answers to these questions but I want to hear what SEOMoz has to say in the quasi-official standards of SEOMoz Q/A)
