Hi, I've been digging a lot into it.. unfortunately there's no solution. The thing is if you have more pages to manage all of those separately and get more shares and reviews (you can think about targeting different local areas with different content for each for example). Hope that helped

RE: Where can I find a breakdown of google search volume by specific industry/vertical? For example, what % of people searching in google are looking for housing? Cars? Restaurants?
Hi
Sorry for repeating, but you gave the answer all by yourself: if you need to know how many people searched for "New car" in the U.S. , you can use both Adwords keyword tool and google trends to get this data. Here is an example for the car industry. Once you determine the keywords you need, you can benchmark and analyze data with many tools (eg. google trends and google adwords, or also semrush, searchmetrics, and moz tools), to get the trends and search volume for all those keywords, and get insights on the industry field youre working on.
Hope this helped

RE: Self created links, are there any of vaule?
Hi Isaac
Sure there are sites that add nofollow.. those can be blog comments, forums, account links and many other places. Just be sure you don't spam and use those links wisely

RE: Where can I find a breakdown of google search volume by specific industry/vertical? For example, what % of people searching in google are looking for housing? Cars? Restaurants?
I think having search volume by vertical is not easy or possible. This because there are so many queries users can use to get to a certain page. Another solution is to use google trends, but you will have to define general keywords for your search: as google shows here you can use trends to target your business and compare different keywords for it to get insights at the business search volume.
But I don't think you can find such data in other ways. What kind of results would you like to expect?
Car Industry: 100.000.000 searches / month
Advertising: 100.000.000 searches / month
It would not be possible: where for example you would then put a query such as "Audi Commercial Advertising". This because queries can target several business industries. What do you think?

RE: Where can I find a breakdown of google search volume by specific industry/vertical? For example, what % of people searching in google are looking for housing? Cars? Restaurants?
This is a new tool from google that helps you see how each channel was influential in the conversion path with breakdown by industry type. This isn't anyway what you were looking for. The only other suggestion that comes to my mind:
Use Keyword Planner from Adwords, and search for ideas of your keyword. Then type something generic (like car insurance) to see all related searches to that particular topic, to get a rough idea of what the search volume is for all those queries.
Hope this helps

RE: Self created links, are there any of vaule?
Hi I think self created links are valuable if used wisely. You should try to use those links only to build authority to your site, without trying to spam for it. This means it is better to do only a few manual links and get sure that all of those links are valuable and from authoritative sites. Hope this helps

RE: To use or not to use YouTube - That is the question!
I believe the Moz post is still very accurate, and that it provides very good info.
As well, I would suggest to, depending on the type of business you need the video for, (as well as on the video quality etc.), use the different strategic tools you have available, combining them as you best find it useful.
As well, you could easily have the video on several channels, plus the video embedded in your post to help (with rich snippets) increase the CTR.
Anyway, I would surely never (or almost never) discard youtube from my options, when dealing with video, knowing that few different channels can be used. (Think about social media, do you use only fb, twitter or plus separately, or do you try to have a strategic focus and line throughout all the channels? If you do so with socials, why not with video?
Hope I helped some how

From page 1th to page 18th @ Google
Hello Mozzers!
I have a question, you may help.. How may it be possible that a page ranking well (1th result) goes from 1th result to the 18th page just in 1 day? It doesnt seem to be any kind of penalization.. I now had all suspicious outgoing links to be nofollow (they were not before), this may be a cause .. (?) Do you have any other suggestion? Thanks

RE: What are SEO's using for Keyword Research?
Adwords (keywords tool in all different options of search and keywords suggestion) & Semrush (paid and free version available, good also for competitors analysis).
They are both very good I think. Other sources you can find at strumenti seo

Duplicate Titles and Sitemap rel=alternate
Hello,
Does anyone know why I still have duplicate titles after crawling with moz (also google webmasters shows the same) even after I implemented (since 1 week or 2) a new sitemap with rel=alternate attribute for languges? In fact, the duplicates should be in the titles like http://socialengagement.it/su-di-me and http://socialengagement.it/en/su-di-me.
The sitemap is on socialengagement.it/sitemap.xml (please note formatting somehow does not show correctly, you should see the source code to double check if its done properly. Was made by hand by me).
Thanks for help!

RE: Renaming your domain from an existing live domain and SEO implications - Please Help *shudder*
Hello
You may also want to try rel="canonical" (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139394?hl=en) or find out some better services for redirection (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URL_redirection#URL_redirection_services)
Also, and anyway, if you would like to keep your page rank, domain authority, and url, i would also suggest that you can just re write (by copy and paste) the whole best website code and structure as well as content, and have it all on the old domain. It seems to me the best solution, at least unless its not to hard to re create the website..
hope it helped

Pings & Trackbacks
Hello
I have a question:
If Pings & Trackbacks are disabled (and, for older posts, removed completely through a function in mySQL) would this also remove links earned through pings and trackbacks?
Also, if those functions are disabled, would thus avoid a website gaining some (even if automatic, but maybe from very good websites for article feeds) useful backlinks?
Thanks for a reply. If I was not clear, please let me know.

Are descriptions in Social Media Accounts seen as Duplicate Content bt SE?
Hello,
I was wondering:
If someone (like me) has same or very similar description for all social accounts (eg google plus, linkedin, etc also considering less famous or more specific accounts) profiles, will it be considered as duplicate content by search engines?
And what if the content and description will be similar also to the one in the website? Will this be duplicate for the website?
Thank you!

RE: Meta Description VS Rich Snippets
Hello,
Thank you for reply. I highlighted some parts of the website, that's true.. I will try removing them and see if metas are taken into consideration. But this highlighting does not apply to all pages, and for many pages the first 2 lines of the pages are instead shown within the result. I understand I cannot tell Google what to show in their results
There is no other way then to let Google take my metas more into consideration? I thought that maybe to highlight the meta description only would be a solution. But there is no way to do so unless I put the meta description within the content of each page. Do you know any other solution?
Thanks anyway, your reply really helped !

Meta Description VS Rich Snippets
Hello everyone,
I have one question: there is a way to tell Google to take the meta description for the search results instead of the rich snippets?
I already read some posts here in moz, but no answer was found. In the post was said that if you have keywords in the meta google may take this information instead, but it's not like this as i have keywords in the meta tags.
The fact is that, in this way, the descriptions are not compelling at all, as they were intended to be. If it's not worth for ranking, so why google does not allow at least to have it's own website descriptions in their search results? I undestand that spam issues may be an answer, but in this way it penalizes also not spammy websites that may convert more if with a much more compelling description than the snippets. What do you think? and there is any way to fix this problem?
Thanks!

RE: Google Dancing?
Hello Jonathan
Thank you for reply. I don't think Penguin can explain the going up and down in the serps continously.. it happens for example, since one month (but website is new) that for 1 keyword im in position 70 then 27 then back to 70 etc..
I dont think there are penalization issues as the domain is about 4 months old now, and also content has a right set of keywords (max 3 or 4 times) and variants on each page.
Could it be something else?

Google Dancing?
Hello,
I was wondering why my website for some keywords goes from 2nd 3rd page in Google to 7th or even more sometimes? This happens since a while.
Any suggestion?
Thanks.

RE: Meta tags
Thanks
It means that after all the code changes in order to show the metatags properly (in wordpress its all a mess!) Google will not take it into account? Would then it be better to work on rich snippets?
-
RE: Meta tags
thanks all!
You helped a lot! As I already did, and will keep doing, I will follow chris reply. I thought that googlebot would let the website changes be displayed in the serp as well. So this means, that, if I see correct meta description in Moz Toolbar, this should be the one that google will display once the crawl is done?
I hope so

Meta tags
Hello,
Does anyone know how long it takes for the meta descriptions to show up in Google?
This because I just updated my meta descriptions for the whole website, but while moz toolbar is showing it correctly, google is still showing the old ones, even if i used the see as googlebot tool from webmaster tools.
Thanks for a reply

Domain Authority
Hello everyone,
My question is: is there any manual way to increase domain authority, rather than link building to domain (homepage) ?
Thanks

RE: Is this ok for content on our site?
sorry then,
i did not understand well. As Chris said, I also meant that the those words would go to the body of the page.
If not, I agree with Chris.
-
RE: Is this ok for content on our site?
Hello I dont know if I understood well,
But there should be no prob to have some more words for content. Google likes that! Just be sure that you do not abuse keywords. 1 or 2 times (max 3) in the whole page, and include many synonyms and variants of the keyword.
But not spammy content will surely help Google understand your page, and give better results to customers
Hope this helps!

RE: Out of Stock page ranking
There are many things to consider: first, if its your competitor, how would you know that the product will not be in stock anymore? If the whole website is ranking well, and no spammy procedures have been made by this website, there is no way to communicate it to Google, I think. And anyway, if its not a big problem, Google will not take it into consideration anyway.
Please note that Google has many ways in order to understand if a page is relevant (one of this is bounce rate, etc.)
So if a customer is not satisfied with what he/she finds in your competitors page, cause there is not the product that is being looked for, he/she will leave the page, and Google will notice that.
I would:
1. Try tell your competitor (even as unsatisfied customer) that the page in which they offer the product, is not valid, so please if they can take action to make it more relevant or remove it if needed.
2. Try rank better for that product on my own website. Once I'll have shares, compelling content, great user experience on page (and a few bunch of natural links if possible ), my page would rank better and outdo my competitors page (even if domain age and auth may be higher)
Anyway, if you really would like to send a request to Google, you can read this guide https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/93713?hl=en
Hope this helps

RE: Duplicate Titles Shown in Moz Analytics
Hello Tuzel,
Thank you again for your help. Plugin could not be deactivated as it left translation and original all in one page.
I found out that I could also use this code in the header.php of the website
Hope it will work, seems less strong than canonical, maybe better try with this first

RE: Rel="canonical" again
So, if I understood, my code to have in the header.php of the website should be:
hope im right :)

RE: Rel="canonical" again
NetLogiQ Thank you.
This answer solves a lot of tricks i had in my head
Thank you very much, I will better study the link you sent, and try to implement on my website. Footers etc. are not translated, so they remain in the original language.. But while reading, I think the solution can fit to my problem.
Thanks again!

RE: Rel="canonical" again
hello james
Thanks for reply. I have original webpages in Italian. Translated webpages are in English. I use a plugin for wordpress, that allows me to translate the whole page (title, etc.) except the url, which will only be different because of the /en before the original page name (in italian, eg /en/contatti)
Widgets, footers etc. are still in Italian, even with translated pages.
I also thought about changing permalinks to be %postname%, so that url may adapt to title (? I think). But Im afraid this website wide urls change will affect my current rankings.
Any suggestion?

RE: What is Considered Over-Optimization?
all types of keyword stuffing, backlinks with too many exact anchor text, too many backlinks. This the most common I know..
-
RE: Rel="canonical" again
in fact, now that im thinking:
will not canonical confuse google if trying to rank also for the other language?
What will appear? this is duplicate in a sense, but is complete different content in the other sense.
Please correct me if im wrong..
-
RE: Rel="canonical" again
this is what google replied to the same question, not very explicit at all!
"Canonical was not created to say that a language is another language, but that a duplicate page is just a variation and not the original page"
Im lost again but i also now think that rel canonical is the solution..
-
Rel="canonical" again
Hello everyone,
I should rel="canonical" my 2 languages website /en urls to the original version without /en. Can I do this from the header.php? Should I rel="canonical" each /en page (eg. en/contatti, en/pagina) separately or can I do all from the general before the website title?
Thanks if someone can help.
-
RE: Canonical redirects
Thank you Adam,
Very good answer, thats what I needed
Please let me know if I understood good:
Should I replace the /contact.php in the example to my real address /en/contact?
And basically I should put the below condition. Should I write this code for each url i want to redirect? so that it would be like
if /en/contact, then rel="canonical" /contact
else /contact
if /en/about-us, then rel="canonical" /about-us
else /about-us
etc?

RE: Building "keyword" backlinks

Canonical redirects
Hello,
I have a quick question: I use wordpress for my website. I have a plugin for translating the website in other languages. Thus, I have 2 versions of urls, one with /en, one without (original languale). This has been seen as duplicate content.
I have been advised that the best to do is to use canonical redirect. Should I use it on the general header.php (the only header I can find in the CMS), or should I redirect each page singularly? I believe the second is the best way, but I can't find headers and txt documents for each page in my FTP.
As well I have seen this post, in which is explained that canonical redirects can be done directly in the general header.php http://www.bin-co.com/blog/2009/02/avoid-duplicate-content-use-canonical-url-in-wordpress-fix-plugin/
Is it true? You have any suggestion?
Thanks!Eugenio

RE: Building "keyword" backlinks
Hello.
Thus anchor in backlinks is very important, I will not only worry about that. With this I mean you can have anchor as "read more" from a very valuable and authoritative website, which will be very important anyway. I will, in this case, not being able to decide anchors, improve my keyword (and similar) mostly ONPAGE, trying also to increment external forward links with the preferred anchor (which I can now choose) and internal linking from / to that page, still using the preferred anchor.
Otherwise, to get anchor you may want also try to ask the webmaster of the site you want the backlink from, to add your preferred anchor. If this is not possible, also try maybe including the whole code in a message to webmaster. You may be able to receive your wanted anchor. But as well, as far as I know, even anchor is very important, to have "read more" anchors may be useful as well, avoiding keyword stuffing in anchor.
Hope my thoughts are right, and may help you a little

RE: Duplicate Titles Shown in Moz Analytics
Hello Tuzzel,
Thanks again you clarified me many doubts I will keep you updated, I will amend those issues by today.
Do you think is more wise and better to try first deactivating the plugin, and after checking if there is any result, reactivate it and have canonicals for all /en pages? Or is better just to use canonical directly?
Thanks
-
RE: Duplicate Titles Shown in Moz Analytics
I have a plugin for wordpress for language translation. I will try to deactivate it, and see if ranking goes up at least a bit. If it does, it means the plugin and /en urls caused the duplicate issues, and maybe also a drop in rankings.. I will let you know the results, if you are interested
Thanks again to all for help!

RE: Am I doing SEO test properly?
thanks jesse,
You now got me right Sorry if I was unclear.. yes, i will try monitoring all changes.. nothing happened by now only with keywords, so Im trying to slowly implement more optimization (starting from internal links and external forward links). I hope I will get somewhere with results, and I ll be more than happy to share with all you mozzers
Thanks again.

RE: Duplicate Titles Shown in Moz Analytics
Hello,
Thanks everyone for replies.
Dave, I already choose a preferred domain
Chris, thanks for the useful tip. I think I already got penalized for this (eg I have 3 blog posts all with the keywords "website ranking" in the url, all for different seo strategies, and only one page is ranked for those keywords). I think i only could 301 redirect, but at the moment, I will leave it as it is, and be more careful in the future.
Tuzzel, thanks, your reply really helped also. I have seen in the Google guide you posted that I should use top domains for translations. This is not possible at the moment. Then you suggested to use canonical tags. Does it mean I should 301 redirect all translated pages to the original ones?

Duplicate Titles Shown in Moz Analytics
Hello,
My Moz analytics show over 50 duplicate titles. This because my website title is shown on each page (eg About us | Social Engagement, Contact us | Social Engagement, etc.)
Is this really an error to be fixed, that otherwise will impact rankings? Or can I leave it as it is? I don't mind having my website title on each page, but if its worth removing it due to duplicate issues impacting ranking, I will remove
In this case, does someone have any suggestion on how to do this? Which files should I modify? (Im using Wordpress CMS, and I dont see each page code)
Thanks in advance.

RE: Am I doing SEO test properly?
Hello Jesse,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry if I was not clear. What I meant is that I am trying to do a test: on a not very optimized new url, where there s only explanation of the test, i would like to see if its possible to rank only (or almost only) with social signals (+1s likes tweets).
I asked if I am doing right or if the type of test I am trying to do is not done with the correct approach.
PS sorry I didnt mention before, url is http://socialengagement.it/seo-italia-test (sorry is in Italian, but with google translation its easy to understand the points)

RE: Did I cause my 70% drop in organic traffic?
You may want to try Barracuda Panguin Tool. WIth this tool you may be able to understand wich changes affected you most, and repair

What else rather than posts for linkbuilding?
Hello,
My question is: we all know that blogs or great content is the way to good backlinks. But rather than this, what other ways are to build quality links to a website?
I for example try researching competition backlinks (with opensiteexplorer), or find directories etc.
Is this the right way? I also try to produce great content, but I would have liked more technical SEO tricks for this
And one more thing: how long links are needed before they impact rankings?
Thanks if someone can help!
