We have a site in English. We are considering translating the site into Dutch. If we use a hreflang attribute does that mean we have to create a duplicate page in Dutch for each English page, or does Google auto-translate? How would duplicate pages, even if they are in a different language, affect ranking?

RE: MOZ identifies duplicate titles - one has' www' in the title
Thanks for the response Nick. Why does a website end up with identical content like this? What should we do about it?
We process orders through Shopify. Do we need an SSL certificate?

MOZ identifies duplicate titles - one has' www' in the title
MOZ has identified duplicate titles - one has' www' in the title. - we have a few pieces of content where the same thing is happening. Not sure how this has happened. Should we do something about this? Will it cause problems for ranking?

RE: Canonical - unexpected page ranking
Thanks Martin, looked at Moz's guide on Canonicals. Have a much clearer view of them now. Thanks for the feedback we will work on the pages we want to rank and monitor them.

Canonical - unexpected page ranking
We are getting good ranking for an unexpected page, rathewr than the one we were trying to get ranking for.
Should we put a canonical on the 'unexpected page' to the page we would like to receive the ranking for - or do we risk losing the ranking?
Any suggestions welcomed.

RE: Unexpected ranking
Thanks Ricky,
Good observations - particularly about the modules keeping people on the page longer, never considered that.
The page speed issue is a problem at the moment. JCH optimise seems to crash the site. We will have to get to the bottom of it soon.
So you don't think Google is taking into consideration the content of related modules?

RE: Unexpected ranking
Hi Ria.
This is the page, we have used the term in link and H1 , but not overly optimised the page content.
But I am more interested in whether search engines are taking into account everything that is seen on screen along with the main content.
If they do, then should I be giving more consideration to the content of the modules that display with the main content, to influence page rank?

Unexpected ranking
We recently built a page for a client which consisted of a one paragraph of about 30-40 words, We weren't expecting this to rank, but it has ranked at #3 on UK Google.
So, we are now trying to work out the likely reason for this, as pages which we have optimised do not rank this well.
We realise there are a number of factors which influence ranking, but on this particular page we have a news module at the bottom of the page containing 8 short intros to other related content.
Could it be that search engines are ranking for the main content shown by the menu link and the 8 short intros associated with that main content?
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks

RE: Does the content in Joomla modules get indexed
Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the response. Would you know how search engines regard modules which may be the same for 3 or 4 articles. How would it know how the keywords in a module should be associated with any particular article, in terms of ranking a page?
Thanks
Ian

RE: New website showing old domain titles in search
Hi Erika,
The site was launched approx 8-9 months ago. The client was supposed to submit a sitemap - but didn't. I have just submitted a sitemap for the site, so will hopefully see some changes over the next few days.
We may be doing some SEO work on the site shortly so need to get this resolved.
It look like Google was appending every title with the old 'Heart of Mersey' site.
May try amending menu page title or using shf404 if the sitemap submission doesn't work.
Thank you for the response.
Much appreciated

Looks like your connection to Moz was lost, please wait while we try to reconnect.
