Hi,

There is a huge ranking difference between the GSC and browser  for our primary keyword. As per GSC, our ranking is around 15 and when checking on the multiple different incognito browsers it's around 50. How to handle this? Which is the accurate one? Product expert from Google forums claim that what I see on browsers are the personalized results; but I tried on different browsers with different connections.

It's been clearly said by Google to interlink the important pages across the website and they give top interlinked pages in "Links report".

They do consider the links from the sub-directories like example.com/blog, etc. to sum up the internal linking .

But we do employ multiple sub directories and link to various pages which may not be that important to rank, example "terms of use" page at footer section. So, obviously these non-important pages might be over linked as per the search console "internal links report".

Will this make Google to consider the highest linked pages as most important and they try to give ranking importance to them? How about links from sub directories?

Please clarify and share your opinions.

Our company falls into a SaaS industry LIKE seo. We used to rank for our industry keywords just like seo, seo software, etc...

We have fallen out of rankings for these obvious top keywords with high search volume, but ranking for these 2 keywords like seo homepage and seo website.

I think we have some strong ranking authority at Google by ranking for our industry keywords "homepage" and "website" which represents a very relevant site to the industry. But not sure why we are not ranking for top keywords.

Any thoughts on this?

As per the "Links" report from GSC, there are  millions of pages pointing to our privacy policy page. We can expect high number of links to this page being  ours an open source product. But these links are overtaking the count of links pointing to our homepage which are very artificial from few  spammy or low quality sites. "Privacy policy" anchor text is also been the top anchor text.

Our homepage ranking dropped and I suspect this is the culprit. Google might be considering this is the important page being linked on top with anchor text. Shall I Disavow these sites and will this makes Google stop counting  links, and the anchor text coming from these sites as well?

Suggestions please.

Hi all,

We have a discussion forum like subdomain.website.com. Some spammers have created many links with our subdomain URL which are redirecting to high spammy and NSFW sites (Not sure how they did). We are trying to stop the redirects.

So far many visitors and bots have recorded visits to these spammy sites with our URL.

Will this impact our website anyhow ? I noticed that our website spam score has been increased and not sure if this is coincidental or penalized. Ranking even dropped without manual actions.

I wonder how much of this subdomain activity will impact main website?

Please advise.

Let's say we are going to create pages in the URL path www.website.com/directory/sub-pages/. In case this page www.website.com/directory/ doesn't exists or redirected; will the pages created in this URL path like stated above have any issues in-terms of SEO?

We will link these pages from somewhere in the website and planning to redirect the /directory/ to homepage.

Unfortunately we switched to different versions of the site and the recent one will be stable for years and further changes will be handled very carefully without complete transformation.

Our open source crm  page dropped from April this year; but the link from capterra was removed in 2018 only. They removed our product from the list and they no more link directly to the websites (you can see the page now). Not sure why we lost traffic for this page all of a sudden even though there is no much ranking difference for main keywords of high search volume. We are going to investigate this and bring back the page to the normal traffic.

Yes, we are trying to rank for "crm" as primary keyword. Do you think that we are not doing well for "crm" as we dropped for "open source crm" page?

Thanks for looking into this. We have dropped post April 18 update as per the historical data we have; and not around Jan/Feb 18.

Could you please let me know where did you get the data? So, I will look into and try to correlate with what we have.

After Google's confirmed core update in April 2018, we dropped globally and couldn't able to recover later. We found the update is about the content relevance as officially stated by Google later. We wonder how we are not related in-terms of content being ranking for same keywords over years. And we are expecting to find a solution to this. Are there any standard ways to measure the content relevancy?  Please suggest!

Just browsing through the articles like "SEO trends in 2108"....I can see everyone mention about increase in voice search and attributing same to the SEO at top. But there is very less information on how to optimise for voice search....May be, they don't know what SEOs have to do exactly with voice search. Basically the input method is going to change on search and else remains same. This must be leading to increase of long tail searches and more search snippets to give an instant voice answer. What else has to be optimised to favoured in voice search?

I have noticed that monthly searches of our "brand" in last five years is almost same. But I can see our competitors have increased their brand searched for monthly in last few years. They are gaining popularity slowly where we are not. What are the other things we can learn when users searching for our brand are not increasing?

No really. Not having any contact information across your homepage might be a issue. But giving phone number on top nav menu will not bring you more benefits. In fact, you can give more important info like sub topics on top nav menu to rank well for that keywords. If you are giving phone number as image, don't forget to give alt img info for same.

I don't think Google penalises it. We can see # sign in many meta titles to promote they are number 1 in their sector. Like they add "#1 software for xxxxx". Even I tried it and I don't see any negative impact. I guess sings might be ignored but don't cause any drop.

Our homepage is outranked by log-in page for "primary keyword" in Google search results; for which actually our homepage was optimised. I have gone through the other answers for the same question here. But I couldn't find them related with our website. We are not over optimised. We have link from top navigation menu of blog to our homepage. Does this causing this?

Rand Fishkin once tweeted about success story of Quickbooks blog as they deleted their old and outdated content to show only high quality content to their audience. We are planning to implement the same strategy to our blog which consists of 800+ blog-posts. I'm just wondering the best way to proceed on this and planning to follow as below. Please correct me if I'm wrong and if there are any better steps of follow:

Get the list of blog-posts.

• Check the traffic of each blog-post.
• If the blog-post needs to be existed, update any info on the blog.
• If the blog no more needed, do I need to delete or noindex or redirect?

What's the better way to measure the success?

Thanks for the reply. That's an amazing point to be considered. We will monitor if there is any increase in bounce rate for mobile devices. Our images are mostly screenshots and I wonder really how many visitors would like to open and see them. Anything related to images on mobile devices is a pain.

ahrefs.com toll helped in link reclamation or link building. However I have noticed that the tool is not able to find all the broken internal or external links. But I was able to find some broken links on another website. ahrefs support team responded to my query on this and agreed that tool might not be listing all links. They even said, no tool can provide all tools and its merely next to impossible. I wanna let you know my experience to keep you updated, so posting here.

We have 6 sub domains which are forums, guides, etc. They have their own visitors for the related queries. We are planning to divert some of them to the website to promote our product with latest content. We are planning to add a link from every page of sub domain to our website homepage. This makes additional thousands of internal links flowing to website homepage. Will this kind of internal linking structure hurts? Any risks involved?

How can you say if a link is a spammy? Any recent example? So as per your opinion we must use disavow.

So what happens when you keep on receiving backlinks from low DA websites? Does such activity improve ranking?
