What I mean by real value:

Link wheels are just websites you create, put a bit of (spun) content on it and link to your main site or to another site in the link wheel. It is not really adding anything to the web. It is just getting you rankings.

Why not try to make genuine, real content people appreciate and link to, talk about on social media, etc. That way, in the long run, getting links and getting higher rankings is actually much much easier. Because you don't have to do any more work.

Make something great, that people will like and they will create a unique "link wheel" if you like, for you!

• Scrape Google?

• Make your own scraper and keep the requests per second really low ?

• Maybe the site has an automated sitemap somewhere ?

• Google webmaster tools -> download "internal links" table

This will be considered duplicate content. If you want to give full credit to the original post, you can also add a rel=canonical tag to the head of that page. That way, almost all value that the page receives on your corporate blog will go to the website of your employees.

The consequence of the rel=canonical is that your corporate page will not rank (for any and I believe all keywords) in the SERP's.

Keyword tool = crap.

1. Did you look at the traffic for phrase match keywords? Or broad match?

2. Second thing you have to consider: the data Google uses in the keyword tool is also from search partners. For instance, in the Netherlands (where I live) google also adds keyword volume from a craigslist type of site. So me searching on the site for daytona insurance will add "a tick" in the keyword tool as well, even though google's results page wasn't shown for that search.

3. Did I mention that the keyword tool is crap? (With instant search on) Start typing daytona i... and see what starts apearing. Than compare the keywords that appear before insurance to the data you got for daytona insurance. See if that makes any sense.

Google isn't stupid. It will see what you are doing, especially if you are making such a basic link wheel. It will denote the link wheel links and your work will be worthless.

Sorry I can't give you more "solid" advice on your link wheel.

If you simply want rankings: make guest posts on other blogs. As diverse as possible. Don't link with too much exact match keywords.

But make sure you have content on the websites you link to. If you have a very thin site with a lot of backlinks won't help your rankings. You need a site of "substance" to guest post to.

The one with the 2 code snippets is the one you needl! You just have to realize: what is accessed more often: the www version of a page or the / version of your pages? This speeds up apache a bit if the one that is accessed most is on top of the other.

And to add: look in your analytics how your pages are being found now. Are they being found more on part number than on anything else? And is your title composed of anything else besides the part number?

What would be the most user friendly way to compose your titles? Fly wheel black 6 inch or 113-24322-423? In car land, garages usually find parts on numbers, not on names The question is: are you marketing to consumers who don't know part numbers, or businesses who do?

No. Search engines look at the subdomains as two different sites. One letter difference, or one hundred won't make a difference.

Because 95% of the content is equal. 3 links and 20 words are different. The rest, all the links, menu, etc. is the same.

I'd try adding a bit more uniqe text to each page. Tell search engines and users a bit more what they can find on those pages.

You can find the wp-config.php file in the root folder of your domain. Where all the wordpress files are located and where all the folders are located like /themes /plugins. That's the root.

Making a .htaccess file isn't hard. It's just a txtfile which has been saved as a .htaccess file without an extension.

Just add the following code, where example.com is your domain

When you're running Wordpress, the best way you can "block" these sites, is to keep updating wordpress as new updates roll out. I think you mean that by: block these sites.

They're sites from hackers who hack old Wordpress sites that have known vulnerabilities. Updating your site will solve that issue, as that's one of the things that gets fixed when you update your core files.

No. It's not counted as an organic visit, but as a paid visit. So you'll see the keyword data under google (cpc)

If you only wanted to redirect all the url's in a certain subdirectory to the new site (not 1-on1), your redirect would look something like this:

RedirectMatch 301 ^/subdirectory/$ http://www.websiteB.com/

But... I dont think you want to do that (Or should do that...) I think you should want to redirect all pages in the subdirectory to their corresponding url on websiteB.

What I mean by that is: you should redirect all your pages 1-on1, like this:

Redirect: www.websiteA.com/subdirectory/url1.html to its equivalent on website B's url: www.websiteB.com/url1.html

If you want to do that, you can. But the url's have to be the same. You can do something like:

RedirectMatch 301 /subdirectory/(.*) http://www.websiteB.com/$1

If the url's change, than you have to do more manual work. You should always try to redirect as many pages 1on1 as you can. Especially the ones that receive external links. The new pages will be almost as "juicy" as the old pages, because the 301 redirect passes the linkjuice along. (not all of it though, but like 90% - 99%)

Google sometimes changes Titles of pages if they seem fit. For instance, this change in the title can happen if your url is listed on lets say DMOZ, and the title on that site says "The Blog" something...

So check out DMOZ and similar "trusted" directory like yahoo directory.

No mentions in social media? Facebook, Twitter? Typing link:www.domain.com/pr3page in google might not give you a full overview. Neither will OSE and neither will all tools combined. So you might have missed some links. Check you analytics to see if any visiters entered your site via that page and via a referral.

About the htaccess from the old site... As long as Website A (the old site) is still up and the redirects on that site is properly set up in the htaccess on that server, I don't see any reason to also use it on the new sites.

Delete it from the server. You could bother to redirect if you can automate the process. Otherwise don't even bother because nobody would have linked to those pages.

Especially with Panda, you really want all your pages to be filled with unique content. Not with duplicate content.

If there isn't a lot of competitiveness, there may be no need to build links? A comprehensive guide/article might already do the trick? Have you tried adding the articles to the site already? Targetting the keywords on the articles' pages in stead of the home page? You might already rank?

So you analyzed the 5 competitors and they don't have any resource sections on their site? Why not try the rest of the web with the query: "the keyword you are building links for" allintitle:resources or allintitle:list or allintitle:blog or something similar?

You should indeed create 301 redirects from the old redirects to the new aliases. People could have linked to those url's, so you want to keep benefitting from those links and built up value over the years.

url.com/index.php and url.com are 2 different url's in the eye's of SE's so you should redirect that 2. Basic rule is: 1 unique  page should be available on 1 url.

How does the bigger site on the keywords that the smaller site ranks for, rank?

If they don't rank for it period.... as in: not in the top 50 for those keywords, it's really no use to redirect the pages. Because probabluy their entire on page optimization is crap. So in the beginning all will be well. Search engines will just give the rankings to the bigger site, but they will drop because the new content and site structure cannot maintain the rankings.

Every domain builds its own value in the SERP's. So registering that domain will involve lots of work to get it ranking.

If you do want to go for a exact match domain, I'd go for red-wagon.com in stead of wagonred.com. That way link building becomes more easy and red wagon and wagon red are two different things.

Using the new domain to help you rank on your main site will be a losing battle in the end. You can't pass a lot of link juice to your main site from your new domain. It's only 1 IP, 1 link (or only a few will count towards your rankings). So if you really want to rank for that keyword, build a niche site on the new domain.

What's high quality and what would you get for 6k a month? If you get 5 quality links for that, that would be good. Get my point? If you get 5 links in lets say the Guardian, the NY Times, etc. You'd be jumping up and down. If you get 300 links a month for those 6k, than chances are they aren't really of high quality.

It takes time and effort to make something linkable. Do real research, write a decent post, or make a decent linkable piece of video, etc.

I can get you a thousands links a month, good quality (mark my Chinese accent) for only 400 dollars a month!

Ask them for examples and call the companies they do link building for and ask them what their thoughts are on the link builders.

Link building is patching up something that is broken. Make everything on your site with one thing in mind: why and when would this page I'm making now deserve to rank number one? People will than link to it because they really like your content, not because they get paid to post a blog about your site.

The page isnt indexed

I don't know why the page isn't indexed though.

It has a ROBOTS index follow and it's not excluded in your Robots.txt. Try linking to it from another spot on your site. Maybe you have some duplicate content somewhere? So content that's the same as the content on that page.

Once the page is indexed, your homepage could still rank higher for the search term (not likely though) but because your homepage always accrues the most links, so will also be the most popular url, according to Google, to show.

Where X would be the earning back period. How long does your client want to pay for the domain before earning it back?

In my understanding, affiliate links' value are demoted. I think it's pretty easy for google to see a link is an affiliate link. Clicking it will add a certain type of cookie and I believe Google can easily distinguish between these links. Adding a reL=nofollow to the link is the appropriate way to have these links on your site. Beside that, Amazon's affiliate programme is well known, so Google will definetly compensate for that.

However, people aren't convinced that the rel=nofollow attribute doesn't give any value to the link. Some believe it still adds to domain diversity and other fankers besides the "plain" link juice.

Search engines typically only look in the root of your domain to find robots.txt and sitemap.xml files.

I would suggest linking to a page that is relevant to the landing page you are creating. Your home page is usually receiving more than enough links from various sources. The underlying pages are often the problem. So try linking to a page that is relevant to the top 10 you created and is in a competitive space.

The A and F problem is probably a little bug in the pro tool. Maybe try reporting that and file a bug report.

The rankings that keep going up and down is pretty normal. I manage a couple of sites and I see rankings go up and down all the time. The thing you want it to see an upwards trend. News or other universal search results might push your result more down, changes in the algorithm, etc. They all influence your ranking. So I wouldn't look at it week on week, I would look at the bigger picture and look for a up going trend.

You are cloaking your bold font to show normal font.

I'd suggest not to do it. I don't think SE's actually go that deep by looking at the css and trying to determine if your text is bold to the users as well... But because making words bold is probably in the bottom 2% of what you can do to optimize your page.

I wouldn't do the simple "cut". You have to redo 850 titles? I say do em manually. Believe me, title tags are THE most important on page factor. Just truncating them won't give you any more SEO. Making them better and < 70 chars will.

Yes it sucks, yes it's a lot of manual shitty work, but it will bring you a lot more SEO wise, than just cutting them to 70 or so chars.

Do some proper research into what people are searching for, put your brand name at the end of the title, etc.

2. It's not as simple as that. Try not to compare a canonical to a 301. rel canonical tells SE's that there is a copy of the page somewhere else. So putting a rel canonical on the kids toys to the washing machines will do nothing for your rankings. They are not copies of eachother.

So if you have too long title tags because of this, don't bother changing it because SE's won't cut the title off.

You can only do so much on-page optimisation.

Get the value of your domain and pages up by building links. Make something your audience loves, and you can stop crossing your fingers and just see how people naturally link to your site.

That's way better than putting effort in css to avoid text being shown as bold. Might not be in your job description as technical SEO but why not think of a technical solution to a customers problem...

There isn't one by default. You can create one by uploading it to the root of your directory. So where the wp-config.php file and the rest is located.

In my opinion, if you are pointing to a page as a canonical and the page you are pointing to is not a copy of the page the tag is on, you'll be sending strange signals to SE's and they will ignore it. Worst case they will penalize you. (But I dont think they do that)

Other thought that comes up: why does the crawler find XML files? That (probably?) means that you're linking to those files on your site? Which isn't really necessary You only need to link to it in your robots.txt file or submit it to Google Webmaster Tools.

In my opinion, but I don't think there has been any concise research about this, a canonical is similar to a 301 redirect. A 301 redirect passes a lot of link juice to the page it is redirecting to, but not all. So I would say yes, this is hurting your SEO because you're not keeping all the juice you could keep when not using the rel = canonical. (or a redirect for that matter)

I think, as Barry says, you'll see more improvement in what your visitors do on your site, then what Google brings you. Don't mix up cause and effect. I think because your visitors stay longer, Google will see that. And reward you accordingly.

The numbers don't say a lot, it's more the actual load time. You'll see that bounce rates and pages per visit will go up. I manage a website where we managed to cut the bounce rate in half. avg visit time up 40%, pages p/visit up 30%. Our visit rate went up by nearly 80%. So that was remarkable. And guess where the visitors came from: Google.

If you are using Google adwords. you can simply place a Google Adwords conversion code on the thank you page of your order system.

If you want to measure what organic keywords bring you signups, setup goals in google analytics. As in: the url of the thank you page. When you then select for instance: google (organic) as a traffic source, you can set goal set 1 and see what keywords gave you conversions.

That would be my algorithm for this situation. I don't see any reason why SE's would "punish" you for somethng that could be a mistake. If you rel canonical to a url that is in no way associated to where the tag is placed, I would use the same algorithm.

If the the tag is pointing to a copy of the page somehwere else on that domain I would say: give a minimum link juice leak. If the url is pointing to a different root domain, I would add a little bit more leaking to the algorithm...

It's not giving the right signals if it is saying that the page you are currently on is a copy of the page you are currently on.

Yes. Remove the noindex nofollow for / from the robots.txt. It doesn't add anything. It can only confuse SE's and lose you rankings.

That helps. So you redirected every url to the matching url on the new domain? Good!

That's all you could've done. Now the problem is: the new domain is new, hasn't built up long time value and probably all the links that are pointing to the old domain, haven't been spidered yet to be redirected to your new domain. That's problem one.

Problem two is a bigger one: all your links are now devalued because they are all being redirected to your new domain.

I'd try to find the low hanging fruit and e-mail them to change the link to the new site and preferrably not to the homepage, but to different pages on you site.
