Thanks Barry, I've actually found 52 pages with 404's some with some good authority!
Thanks for you help, greatly appreciated

Hi,
We have recently made some changes to our agency site. Looking in webmaster tools we have identified a number of old pages with existing link juice. Not a great deal mostly 32/100 PA.
There are a mixture of URLs "meet the team" and people pages etc.
The anchor text on the majority of pages is our brand name. Could we now 301 all these pages to one page, or is this a no no in the eyes of Google?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Best Regards
Sean
Ryan, thanks for your help. Greatly appreciated.
Sean
Thanks for this Ryan, a nifty little tool. It doesn't break down the Phones by 3G 3GS etc but very useful all the same.
What does the % indicate? Is this % of population: So 18% of USA for example have an iPhone?
Thanks again Ryan, greatly appreciated.
Sean
Hi,
I have a really quick question, which is seeming impossible to find out the answer for.
Could only point me in the right direction? I need to find out:
How many iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 users there are in:Europe, North America and Global.
The more I can break down the better really.
Many Thanks
Sean
Thank you Daniel & Steve for your comments. This is pretty much the line we have taken on this, always nice to get back up on something that is new to us. Great answers and greatly appreciated Best Regards Sean
Mozzers:
We have a instance where a client is looking to 301 a www.example.com to www.example.com/shop
I know of several issues with this but wondered if anyone could chip in with any previous experiences of doing so, and what outcomes positive and negative came out of this.
Issues I'm aware of:
Your help as always is greatly appreciated.

Hi Keri, and thank you.
All is going really well. I had a mail from Rand on this subject which has been a big, big help.
We're focussing all our energy on building relationships primarily.I find that you can get a good feel for the partners knowledge and skill sets through the conversations you have rather than shooting questions at them, which feels a little stiff and interview like, which we don't want.
Our partners {so far} are passionate about the industry Keri, and I can talk SEO till the cows come home, so you get a good feel for their experience, whilst building solid relationships, which I'm sure will stand the test of time.
You may well see my first YOUmoz post very soon!
Best Regards

Afternoon Elias. I've added a link to the survey now :¬)
Many Thanks
Sean
That's a damn fine point Elias, and certainly an oversight on my behalf.
I'll definitely do the survey monkey survey, as I understand people not wanting to share this kind of data. I'll share the link Elias once I'm happy with the questions {probably tomorrow now}
Thanks again Elias
Sean
Thanks Elias,
A survey is a great idea actually, I could set one up with survey monkey.
I'll wait and see what responses I get through in the first week first. Hopefully they will be honest, as I don't need to know what the agency is.
Personally I think we could all benefit from this kind of qualitative data set, and it needn't stop at agencies. But i think I'll try walking before I run :¬)
Thanks for your feedback Elias, greatly appreciated.
I have a nice simple question to ask all you mozzers out there, specifically if you work for a web design/digital agency.
Does your agency get any new business clients through your SEO and CRO efforts?
I'm asking this to try and build up a qualitative data set.
I am responsible for all SEO and CRO at our agency for all clients along with our own website.
Having increased traffic by over 200% in the last 12 months, and obtaining page one of Google for all our targeted keywords, we are still without any new business or ROI.
We are fortunate enough to get a lot of great clients via word of mouth, a great sales team and client retention, I'd really like to know what the bigger picture is here?
If I get enough data back, I'll make it into my first Youmoz post and share all the data with everyone :¬)
I've now added a survey so you answer anonymously: There are only 5 questions in all, your time is greatly appreciated.

Any feedback gladly welcomed.

Excellent, Thank you very much Saibose, I'll add these to my list.
Thanks for your time

Hi Richard,
These are great questions, I particually like the question about Rand :¬)
Also the I think the test page is a great idea.
Thanks for taking the time out Richard to share your views as ever, very informative, and greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Up until yesterday my main role was to implement & create SEO strategies and analytics for varying clients, and our own agency.
Going forward I have been tasked with sourcing and managing SEO partners for our existing and future clients.
This is totally a new concept for me, and I was wondering if any mozzers out there have been tasked with similar roles and could give me some ideas on what questions I should be asking, or maybe have an SEO matrix to rank agencies to help match to clients?
Your help as always is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Sean
This may sound a little basic, but i'm going to ask anyway.
On Googles keyword tool Ive always used broad match, knowing that they are never 100% accurate, and obviously inflated by other SEO's searching for their keywords, but used it all the same to get an idea of global monthly searches and potential targeted traffic.
I have seen recently, on SEOmoz, and a post fromJill Whalen not long back, that unless you change the match to "Exact" your data is useless?
Could somebody explain why this is the case?
My initial thoughts were, a search for SEO on broad shows 6,120,000 per month
Yet a search for the same keyword in exact match shows 673,000 per month.
I had presumed that the broad match would include "learn SEO" "What is SEO" etc etc, where as 673,000 just search exactly for SEO. Is this correct?
3 points go to Richard Q&A answering animal dude Getz if he gets this first!
Thanks in advance
Thanks Goodnews, I agree also that Richard is the Q&A answering dude!
Thanks Petra: I must say this new beta system for Q&A is very effecient!

This is just a quickie:
On one of my campaigns in SEOmoz I have 151 duplicate page content issues! Ouch!
On analysis the site in question has duplicated every URL with "en"
e.g
http://www.domainname.com/en/Fashion/Mulberry/SpringSummer-2010/
http://www.domainname.com/Fashion/Mulberry/SpringSummer-2010/
Personally my thoughts are that are rel = canonical will sort this issue, but before I ask our dev team to add this, and get various excuses why they can't I wanted to double check i am correct in my thinking?
Thanks in advance for your time
Hi Gianluca,
Your cheeky. I could tell you who she is, but I'm afraid i'd have to kill you :¬)
You can have a look at our website Gian, and work it out from there: http://www.greatfridays.com
Take care
Thanks for the advice though.
Thanks again Richard, great help mate

Hi Richard,
She is quite a big film start, but she has done modelling too. I've covered all these really Richard, as she does so much.
I'm going down the Non client name for a few pages now , just to see if we can pick up some broader terms. The site has great authority, but I'm presuming that to get these broader terms to rank we are going to need some exact match back-links pointing at the page?
Thanks Richard
Sean
Hi Sameer, He does have a forum, and I think your spot on with leaving the name out. For me Sameer I included the name as I wanted each page to be relevant, but I see your point. So instead of Daniel Radcliffe organic clothing range" I could just put " Organic Clothing" Thanks for your time again Sameer Kind Regards Sean
We have a fairly large client for which I look after the analytics, and just recently the SEO also.
This celebrity client already recieves near a million visitors per month, 96% of the time for her name.
I'm using Googles keyword tool and search trends for insights as to what people are searching for
As I get further and further into optimising different pages, I'm running out of ideas for Unique page titles to drive additinal traffic as they have all been covered. {high volume exact searches that is}
I'm not sure if I'm over using her name also: for example most of the clients pages start with:
"First name last name Keyphrase" should I be using her first name last name on every title?
Thanks in advance for what seems like a simple task, however when your up against it for the first time, it's a "Do I Don't I situation!"
Kind Regards
Sean
Thanks Sameer,
They ahve provided us with a list of 301 directs: I cant find these on OSE though, and to be fair they don't really make sense {as to why we would want a 301on these links in the first place}
Sameer i look after the SEO for my agecny and their clients: If indeed what they are saying is correct and we have 301's on internal links I can't see them, and the case they are pointing out I would use rel=canonical.
Should they show in OSE: I've tried this and it says we have zero, which is my thoughts, as i would have had to do them
Cheers
Me too Thomas. I have requested that they share their "latest intelligence" and correlation with lost rankings. when/If I get an answer I'll be sure to post it.
Big thanks for everyones input here, really appreciated.
Hello again Goodnewscowboy. I have just done exactly what you have said. I need to know obviously for future reference. I guess I was a little put out with some of the stuff they had put in there, which I thought didn't hold true.
Thanks for your time again, great to hear from you also.
Kind Regards
Sean
Thanks for the prompt reply Dejan, greatly appreciated. As far as I'm aware we haven't used 301's on internal linking. I have checked this in OSE and it doesn't show any?
My thoughts are the same as yours Dejan. We have recently had a redeisgn of the site { a couple of weeks ago} and to be fair I was looking at 301 ing some of the old content which held small amounts of link juice.
Thanks for our time again
We have just had an outside SEO agency report on our site: One of things brought up were arounf broken links, and how they class them as broken links.
Could any body tell me whether this statement holds true please, as I am not aware of this
"Our latest intelligence shows that google are downgrading ranking from sites that feature 301 redirects within the internal link structure".
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Hi Hansj:
Yes, the imgaes that existed had no alt tags, all lived on one URL with a generic page title. So as far as optimising these images goes, I've given them all descriptive and relevant alt tags, H1 tags and page title, and then added to sitemap.xml.
I am now in the process of measuring the sucess of this and thats where the PA came in. So if image A was steadily moving up the SERP's yet Images C & D were having no impact what could be the influencing factors? Obviously there will be many factors asto why, but I thought that PA could play a part in the overall monitoring.
Thanks for the reply
Many thanks **goodnewscowboy: Should have read that first! **
Your time is greatly appreciated
Sean
I have recently optimised a set of images for a client of ours:
I'm looking through all the PA of these newly optimised images, and have varying PA {from SEOmoz toolbar} I understand that internal linking will pass link juice, and obviously external links will add to the overall PA.
I have several pages with a PA of 36: { Fairly deep pages} Yet they have no external or internal links going to them.
My question is "How can a page gain any authority when it has no visible links pointing at it?" Obviously there must be a link pointing at it {internally} as Google wouldn't have crawled the page right?
Also lets say all the keywords are of equal competitiveness would the keywords with highest PA rank higher than those on O PA pages.
Many Thanks
Wow, Thanks Thomas. I wasn't quite expecting such a thorough and precise answer so quickly.
Many Thanks for your expertise, greatly appreciated
Sean
Having been a member of SEOmoz Pro tools for only a couple of months, I'm now at a point where there are certain issues with our recently overhauled site:
On my latest "Open Site Explorer Report" I am seeing a number of external links going to the HTTP://Domainname.com and a number pointing at HTTP://wwwDomainname.com.
This only appears when I pull the report from the Root Domain. If I pull a report from the Sub-domain all URL's are the same.
Does this matter too much?
Would best practice be to put a rel=canonical on the Non www ?
Thanks for any help in advance
Sean
I'll just back Thomas up there. Yes that's 100% correct. Google will only display these site-links when it deems the site to have a certain authority.
