Facebook likes for website OR FB profile page?
-
I am expecting answers/views from social SEO experts.
Should i encourage people to "like" my main page of my website OR FB profile page of website? Which one works better and why?
-
Gianluca said it very well, so all I'd like to add is:
If you're asking in terms of RANKINGS (which will help you rank better?) use likes on your website. And be sure the proper Open Graph meta tags are installed on your page. The amount of Facebook Likes and Shares from your website can improve rankings.
You can generate the meta code here.

My answer could seem a "not answer": it depends.
Yes, it depends on the social media strategy you want to follow and if you really are looking to a deep integration of your site in the social graph.
In fact, to "like" your page means that you integrate the open graph codes into your site, in order to take advantages of all the feature Facebook offers: facepile, comments, sign-in, like/share andthe incoming action button (read, listen...) and Facebook Insight for Websites. If you are looking to a direct way to show you site into Facebook, the integration of the site with Open Graph is a must, because every action done by a logged in Facebook users is reflected in his timeline.
This has an advantage respect the Page, because this way an user is not "obliged" to pay attention to the status updates of the Page itself, that maybe he is not seeing because those same updates are not having the sufficient edgerank to appear in their streamline (and soon "ticker").
Anyway, to have a Facebook page for your site is useful too... always if you don't use it simply as a repository of links to your new blog posts or new products. If you plan a real marketing strategy with your page, that means contests, special offers, real dialogue with the fans, than you can create brand evangelists that can become your "not paid" commercial force.
See for instance what SEOmoz does with its Page. SEOmoz uses it not only to communicate the new blog posts, but also as a way to strengthen the Community bounds with photos, videos (sometimes) and active conversation (apart that they use Roger as brand ambassador).
To conclude: Site integration to the Open Graph and Facebook Page can coexist and complement one each other and have different reasons to be.

How come a page can rank in top 10 for medium difficult keyword, with poor link profile.
Hi Moz Community, The keyword that http://customsigncenter.com/ is ranking for is "custom sign", the keyword difficulty is 38 (according to Moz Keyword Explorer). Here are the link metrics for the page and domain: Page authority: 27 Domain authority: 18 Facebook shares: 50 Linking RDs to the page: 7 Linking RDs to the Root Domain: 8 From the SERP, a lot of its competitors have better link profile than this guy. How come the page http://customsigncenter.com/ can rank 6th for the keyword "custom sign". Are there any important "hidden factors" behind the scene? Thank you for any help and support. Best, Raymond

Keywords going to Subdomain instead of targeted page(general landing page)
Why are some of my keywords going to subdomains instead of the more general/targeted landing page. For example, on my ecommerce website, the keyword 'tempurpedic' is directing to the subdomain URL of a specific tempurpedic product page instead of the general landing page. The product has a page authority of 15 and the Tempurpedic landing pages with all the products has an authority of 31. I have also noticed that my 'furniture stores in houston' keyword directs to my "occasional tables" URL! instead of a the much more targeted homepage. Is there something I am missing here?

New FB page feature LOOKS AWESOME how to get it for me too??
So I was commenting on an article that my girlfriend shared and the coolest thing happened. Check out the screens for details, but basically, as soon as i finished my comment and pressed enter, a little like box prompt window popped up. This was on FB not on their site, and I thought that was awesome. Anyone heard of, or no what is required to get this for other pages??? Thanks!! Tyler Abernethy 0KyS0wQ.png?1

Why do branded manufacturer websites have multiple pages for their products?
My favorite golf ball is the Srixon Tour Yellow ball. Srixon has a product detail page here (www.srixon.com) AND there's also a product detail page here at shop.srixon.com. Is there any sort of SEO penalty here because there's some duplication? Does the fact the store is a separate subdomain make this more allowable? Many branded manufacturer websites work this way but it just doesn't make sense to me to have two product pages that you have to manage content when you can have just 1 with a call to action. I also work for a branded manufacturer and am considering rebuilding our website from the ground up with the online store and the main/marketing website blended into one to eliminate this duplication. We have this same duplicated marketing/store setup as well. any feedback is greatly appreciated. Confused.

Do in page links pointing to the parent page make the page more relevant for that term?
Here's a technical question. Suppose I have a page relevant to the term "Mobile Phones". I have a piece of text, on that page talking about "mobile phones", and within that text is the term "cell phones". Now if I link the text "cell phones", to the page it is already placed on (ie the parent page) - will the page gain more relevancy for the term "cell phones"?? Thanks

Category pages in forums
I would like to hear feedback on the best SEO practice for forum category pages. An example would be a forum about cars. You can have a Chervorlet category which contains forums for every chevy model. Often this category page is simply a list of all the forums. If I noindex, follow the page then am I missing an opportunity? I am thinking of Google sitemaps for example where this page can be used for a category link. If I noindex the page, there probably isn't another great place for a sitemap to link to. I could fill out the page with wiki-like generic chevy information. Please share any thoughts or best practices.
