Link Building: No linked to content in industry
-
Hello,
I'm doing link buidling for a small ecommerce niche.
There's no resource content in the niche (looking at OSE Top Content) that has attracted backlinks (on any sites)
How should this effect what resource content I should create. Thanks!
-
Great, thanks Ryan

Cant really think of one off the top of my head. I would still follow the lawyers.com or business.com type of format, just imagine those sites as a section of your site, the directory/resources section that houses all that kind of stuff.
-
Thanks Ryan,
I'll go ahead and keep it within the ecommerce site if that is the biggest SEO benefit for the ecommerce site.
Could you give me an example
-
Would kind of depend on this niche that you are talking about.
Technically yes, people may click on links in the directory and leave your website. With that you have a couple of choices:
- Keep the directory within your website/domain and use it as an industry resource, gaining backlinks and increasing the overall Domain Authority of your root domain, while directing important internal links to valuable portions of your eCommerce site to boost the value of those pages. You wouldnt create an easy way for consumers/users on the front end to get to this directory, using UX/UI to keep people in the paths that you want.
- Create a stand alone blog/site that is the industry directory that is hosted somewhere else on a different domain. It would look like a "third party" resource and people could still link to it, and it would begin to rank and gather authority on its own. You would use that as a sort of portal/link building site to your own ecommerce site as well as those who participate in it.
If you went with the second route, a site similar to lawyers.com or something like that would be a good one to look at. Its an article directory, business listing directory and a massive link-bait type of site for resources.

Thank you both for the comments.
What, specifically, would this direcory be like? Can you show me an example?
Also, wouldn't I worry about people leaving my site to visit other sites in the directory and not come back?
I think a directory might work. Thanks!

I agree that is is a great opportunity. A directory of sorts would be a great resource to have. Many professional industries have their own directories (not just a general web directory). Then you can solicit others to create listings, etc..

It sonds like you have a perfect oppertunity to become the industry resource. Finding an industry that produces a lot of money, that doen't have a lot of online competition, is a GOLD MINE!
Create something that everyone in your industry needs/wants and then ask them to read it, contribute to it, and link to it.
Good luck, i'd love to hear how your project turns out.

Link building - anyone use this technique?
I have had a client come and ask me to do some link building, they are wanting to use a strategy of buying expired domains and creating a single page website with some keyword links back to the main website. Seems like an old idea at best, has anyone used it or is it risky

Internal Linking - Post links vs Side Bar Links behaving differently
Hi, I have a question regarding the internal linking behavior. My website is www.hindimeaning.com which is approx 3 years old. I have approx 450 posts. Now i have a widget on right sidebar "Popular posts". A widget below my posts "Related Posts". And a simple html CSS menu above the posts (I removed menu around 6 month before so currently it will not show.) I crawled my site with moz crawler (same are the result from google crawler as well) and it shows menus links as internal links. While sidebar widget "Popular posts" and "Related Posts" are not showing as internal links. If we talk theoretically what i learn till now is "every link on a page behaves as internal link". Then why the widget links are not showing as internal links. Thanks, Mahesh Kumar

Is tiered link building a good thing?
I think that I have watched all the webinairs and online courses available on the web, but I still don't seem to know how and where to get links from. I know what type of links I should be getting and what type I should be avoiding, but that little luck so far. I came across the website of Matthew Woodward about tiered link building where he explains how to do this type of link building in depth. It seems quite interesting but also a lot of work so I don't want to invest my precious time in something that will be penalised by Google in the near future. Is there anyone that can give me some reason why I should or shouldn't do this?

Anyone have experience with AdTaxi for link building services?
Recently a client of ours received a proposal from a local newspaper for search related services, including link building. I believe the name of the company the paper is working with for some of these services is AdTaxi, which i had not heard of before. Anyone have experience with these guys from a link building standpoint? I know that here we are more "do it yourselfers" and for the most part, we handle all of the on-page and technical SEO for our client's sites, but link building as a dedicated service isn't something we have the resources to offer so I'm just looking to do some research. Thank you! -William

What are some of your best tips, strategies or resources for link building?
I currently work for a contract manufacturing company so when I think about building links it seems as if it's going to be a daunting task. Mainly because any kind of content that you can come up with is rather dry. When I go about searching for links I usually run into a lot of directories that charge anywhere between $25-$50 for a listing. I've had a hard time convincing marketing that we should start a blog which may be a good way to build some links if we come up with quality posts but those posts may be few and far inbetween. Does anybody have any recommendations for building links for this type of company or subject matter? Also, and I'm sure we have all heard this. When I mentioned the fact that we should be building some quality links to the site marketing first asked why and then commented "Well that shouldn't take you too long". Why is it so difficult to get management to accept the fact that managing a website is an ongoing and constantly changing process that involves research and experimentation?

Any Tips for Link Building for Boring Topics/Businesses?
I have a number of clients that own businesses in 'boring' sectors, such as: Toxic Waste Removal Steel Erecting Household Plumbing (Boilers, etc...) Link building for these sites is quite difficult. Creating compelling content and 'link bait' is particularly tricky. I found a good post from Michael Gray on the subject, but I don't think food (or McDonalds in this case)is a particularly difficult subject to write about. Any more tips on how to approach this would be appreciated. Thanks
