Duplicate Content Help

seomoz tool gives me back duplicate content on both these URL's
http://www.mydomain.com/football-teams/
http://www.mydomain.com/football-teams/index.php
I want to use http://www.mydomain.com/football-teams/ as this just look nice & clean.
What would be best practice to fix this issue?
Kind Regards
Eddie

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^./index.php
RewriteRule ^(.)index.php$ http://www.yoursite.com/$1 [R=301,L] -
It would only be the default file name that is the problem as its the only one can be accesed by /folderonly/

Hi Highland,
What is the code to do a 301 on all pages that has index.php to rewrite to /
Kind Regards
-
Yes you can, i build my sites in MVC now days where you have SEO freindly URL's with no file names, but what I used to do was change the default file name to somthing no one will ever guess, say seo.aspx or seo.php. so no one will know the file name and not create a link to the filename. Probably a bit overkill, but I like to future proof things

Depends how your site is structured. I would highly recommend a 301 from index.php to / but either all your pages need to be named index.php for a .htaccess to work or you would need some meticulous work.

Hi Alan,
Thanks for the quick response.
Yes i have noticed that there is 1 internal link linking to:
http://www.mydomain.com/football-teams/index.php D'OH!
Anyway, i will get that fixed, thanks for the suggestion.
I was wondering, lets say there was an external link linking to http://www.mydomain.com/football-teams/index.php
Is it possible it re-directs to http://www.mydomain.com/football-teams/ without using a 301, as i don't think its practical to do a 301 on all these URL's?
Kind Regards

Check your pages for links that access both. you musthave a link to http://www.mydomain.com/football-teams/index.php in the site somewhere

Duplicate content. Competing for rank.
Scenario: An automotive dealer lists cars for sale on their website. The descriptions are very good and in depth at 1,200 words per car. However chunks of the copy are copied from car review websites and weaved into their original copy. Q1: This is flagged in copyscape - how much of an issue is this for Google? Q2: The same stock with the same copy is fed into a popular car listing website - the dealer's website and the classifieds website often rank in the top two positions (sometimes the dealer on top other times the classifieds site). Is this a good or a bad thing? Are you risking being seen as duplicating/scraping content? Thank you.

Identifying Duplicate Content
Hi looking for tools (beside Copyscape or Grammarly) which can scan a list of URLs (e.g. 100 pages) and find duplicate content quite quickly. Specifically, small batches of duplicate content, see attached image as an example. Does anyone have any suggestions? Cheers. 5v591k.jpg

A lot of news / Duplicate Content - what to do?
Hi All, I have a blog with a lot of content (news and pr messages), I want to move my blog to new domain. What is your recommendation? 1. Keep it as is. old articles -> 301 -> same article different URL
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | JohnPalmer
2. Remove all the duplicate content and create 301 from the old URL to my homepage.
3. Keep it as is, but add in the meta-tags NoIndex in duplicate articles. Thanks !0 -
Best Way to Incorporate FAQs into Every Page - Duplicate Content?
Hi Mozzers, We want to incorporate a 'Dictionary' of terms onto quite a few pages on our site, similar to an FAQ system. The 'Dictionary' has 285 terms in it, with about 1 sentence of content for each one (approximately 5,000 words total). The content is unique to our site and not keyword stuffed, but I am unsure what Google will think about us having all this shared content on these pages. I have a few ideas about how we can build this, but my higher-ups really want the entire dictionary on every page. Thoughts? http://www.discountstickerprinting.co.uk/#tabThree Does this mean that our content is being duplicated onto another page? If so what should I do?0 -

Removing Duplicate Content Issues in an Ecommerce Store
Hi All OK i have an ecommerce store and there is a load of duplicate content which is pretty much the norm with ecommerce store setups e.g. this is my problem http://www.mystoreexample.com/product1.html
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | ChriSEOcouk
http://www.mystoreexample.com/brandname/product1.html
http://www.mystoreexample.com/appliancetype/product1.html
http://www.mystoreexample.com/brandname/appliancetype/product1.html
http://www.mystoreexample.com/appliancetype/brandname/product1.html so all the above lead to the same product
I also want to keep the breadcrumb path to the product Here's my plan Add a canonical URL to the product page
e.g. http://www.mystoreexample.com/product1.html
This way i have a short product URL Noindex all duplicate pages but do follow the internal links so the pages are spidered What are the other options available and recommended? Does that make sense?
Is this what most people are doing to remove duplicate content pages? thanks 🙂0
