Is it possible to customize the size and shape of social sharing buttons?
-
Hello SEO people...
I have an important and urgent question.
Is it possible to customize social sharing buttons with counter? We are developing a new website and I want to place the social sharing (not the social follow buttons) at a specific location on the website. The space available is not a lot and my developer says that it is not possible to change the size of the button+counter....
please tell me what you guys know about this. And if the answer is 'YEs they can be customized' then please give me a link that I can forward to the boy so that he can work on it.
Your answers will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
MTI

Here is other couple of services for that:
These will also provide some sweet analytics for you
I personally prefer the original buttons that you can grab here (with basic html or css knowlege you will align them as you wish):

If you are stopping by in Pakistan... (Karachi specifically) and you can let me know in advance. I might be able to, and would love to, organize a seminar that you could be the speaker of.
The SEO field is developing in Pakistan and people like yourself can find awesome talent as well as great business opportunities here also.
I myself am working for a UK based firm.

I am glad you found the information to be helpful Muhammad.
I do plan to travel to India at some point next year. I have outsourced the web development aspect of my business to a company in India. They have done a kick-ass job for my clients thusfar and I wish to meet the team, tour the country, and check off my annual item to stretch out and experience a different culture. I'll offer updates when I make the trip.

Ryan once again you have answered my question the quickest and given me a solid answer and helped me.
I am truly obliged to you.
If you ever come over to Pakistan... I will be your host man!

Talha

Yes, they can be customized.
The social sharing buttons with counters are graphic images. There are many possibilities. Some sites create their own icons to fit the theme of their site, while others search for designers who make images they prefer.
And if the answer is 'YEs they can be customized' then please give me a link that I can forward to the boy so that he can work on it.
Examples:

http://www.abctrick.com/2011/07/how-to-add-floating-social-sharing.html
The designs used by the above 3 links are similar, but clearly different. You can replace any image with another image. It depends on either having a knowledgeable developer write the code, or locating a code snippet from a developer who has already done the work. The third example offers details on how to change the image.

Does Social Media hold value with SEO? If so then how?
Hey So I've been doing some research and it looks like theres a "human authority" and a "Page authority". I dont know if it is still relevant or if it has all changed because of Panda. Does social media still hold any SEO value? Do social media platforms like Pinterest and Youtube and twitter drive any valuable Anchor texts to your domain boostin your domain's authority or the page that it is linking to's authority?

Blog Sharing Options
We are currently evaluating a long list of blog promotion and sharing ideas for our website and wanted to ask some of the resident experts here. We post all of our blogs on our Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ pages, but would you suggest using any of these services for an internet marketing company? What would be the main purpose to using them? StumbleUpon Technorati Digg Reddit Tumblr Delicious Any missing from the list? Is there a list of great sites to ping through WordPress? I saw they provided a list on the http://codex.wordpress.org/Update_Services page. Is this good to use? Do we need to create accounts at all of those services first? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Outsourcing social media optimization
Is it a good idea to outsource social media optimization or is it something that has to be done in-house? I understand the question is kind of vague, but what I had in mind was to have an offshore contractor post daily about individual products and try to increase our following on twitter/facebook (i.e "social footprint").

Shared articles in the SERP's - who sees these shares?
Hi Folks, I am trying to find out a little more about how individuals need to be connected to see that someone 'shared' something and for this to then show up in my results when signed into Google. Can anyone shed a little more light on this please? I am just looking for extra clarification. Would we need to be connected through Google Buzz? Facebook? Twitter? Quora? LinkedIn? None of the above? With everyone you are connected to through your Google Account? What is Google using when it looks at how I am connected with others? This is from their Blog: "First, social search results will now be mixed throughout your results based on their relevance (in the past they only appeared at the bottom). This means you’ll start seeing more from people like co-workers and friends, with annotations below the results they’ve shared or created. So if you’re thinking about climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and your colleague Matt has written a blog post about his own experience, then we’ll bump up that post with a note and a picture..." And... "Second, we’ve made Social Search more comprehensive by adding notes for links people have shared on Twitter and other sites. In the past, we’d show you results people created and linked through their Google profiles. Now, if someone you’re connected to has publicly shared a link, we may show that link in your results with a clear annotation (which is visible only to you, and only when you’re signed in). For example, if you’re looking for a video of President Obama on “The Daily Show” and your friend Nundu tweeted the video, that result might show up higher in your results and you’ll see a note with a picture of Nundu:" Many thanks, Andy
