Sending a global facebook message
-
Hi,
This is really a social media question, hoping you can help.
We have 2 facebook sites that we are going to delete. One is a group and one is a page. Here they are:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/NLP-Institute-of-California/101752159860852?ref=ts
and
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=90698249783
How do we send a message to all people in both groups all at once letting them know of our new facebook page that we're making?
We're also concerned that people will get 2 emails that are subscribed to both sites to be deleted..
Thanks!

Bob,
Since you don't have a lot of "likes" plus the page has been inactive for so long, I'm not sure you're going to get much traction by emailing everyone. I also don't think it will hurt anything.
I know... real helpful right? If you do send an email, I would suggest making sure that you call out the name of the group or page specifically so if they do get two emails, they see it's because they belong to both.
As Frank mentions, it's also good to add info about moving the pages right on the page itself. That might get people's attention more than anything.
Hope this helps!
Jen

I think this is a great idea in general. Let people know in several different ways that you're moving the page. Adding a message to the page, plus a status update will let your "like"ers know in the app.

These facebook accounts are very inactive, last posts were like last May. Does your answer still apply?

My advice would be not to delete both pages immediately to put a count down warning on each page, with regular updates, for example, THIS PAGE WILL NO LONGER BE ACTIVE IN 10 DAYS please come over to our new page to continue receiving information. then you leave like a final this page is closed post again redirecting to the new pages, and finally i would delete after a couple of weeks... I know it's extra work, but people don't always read their e-mails especially those who receive thousands a day, you will find all your active members will get the notice, and that's really the majority that matters, right?

Facebook Like button on website: which "URL to Like"? Website or Facebook Page?
Hello, I have a question about the Facebook Like Button. We we are setting up a Like Button to put on the top page of our website (300 likes) However, we already have a Facebook Page (1000 likes). Now, in the set up of the button, we need to decide which "URL to Like" and I really do cannot realize which one is best. Do you think we should use the url of our website or the url of our Facebook Page? Why? Thank you in advance for your help, Dario

SEO & Social | More SEO effect by liking the page URL rather than the Facebook Page?
SEOMoz Gurus, I am wondering what our best implementation strategy shoul dbe around linking up the Facebook Like button on our pages. Essentially there are two options: A) Linking the button directly to the Facebook Page of the web site so every Like is actually converting into a Facebook "Fan" which can be messaged going forward through our Facebook page. B) Having them like the actual URL which might be more beneficial from an SEO and viral perspective as now a link to the actual URL gets shared on the Liker's facebook wall and it should also be easier to use that lIke for Google & Co. as it's tied to the actual URL not a random Facebook page given that search engines already convert those signals. Both approaches obviously have their benefits. Are there any common guidelines on what is a better approach to take from a pure SEO perspective? Thanks /Thomas

Widgets like Facebook Like and AddThis - Any Negative SEO?
I could go widget crazy with my website, there are so many cool buttons and linking this and likes and etc. There's one that is used a lot, called "Addthis" that adds a series of small icons to share a page via facebook, twitter, etc. The javascript looks innocent enough, but there's a link, and who knows what google makes of it. Then there are the dozen or so Facebook widgets - are they safe to use without negative SEO consequences? Does anyone know of any other pitfalls with using the numerous addons offered free to enhance your site? Thanks for any wisdom out there! Jean
