Keeping my rank on SERPs
-
I recently ranked on yahoo, #4 for my keyword! It has taken 2 months and finally, out of the blue, there I am. This is my first time actually attempting an SEO campaign. At first I was listed for my keyword, then i started dropping after a few days. Then I made a new post, included those keywords, and I got back up to rank #4 again (for the new post). Why is this happening? Do I have to make a new post every 4-5 days to keep myself listed on the yahoo first page serps?
-
Well i have a variety of keywords I am targeting. I don't try to hit more than 2 per page (i think that is correct). As of today, even my 2nd post has fallen out of the rankings with yahoo. I know I can get on there, but it appears I cannot maintain it without continually posting (using my keyword). I want to get there and stay, at least for the most part. This business it not a "highly SEOd" business. Most of my customers competitors are there because they have been there for years. They only occasionally change their website.
-
Ah I see, what keyword are your posts targeting? And what keywords are you targeting for your home page?
-
Well, I have the keyword on my homepage. This page however has never been in the SERPS. So randomly last week I wrote a post that was basically just an advertisement. Most of the posts actually contain some content and pictures. This one however was written just to "promote" the business. It was loaded with the keyword (and others). That page is the one that showed up on Yahoo.
However, a few days later I wrote another article using the same keyword. This article had content in it. This article replaced the original "promotion" post.
The page I want them to visit is the homepage. This has all the goods on it. When I write posts new content is displayed on the homepage (so it is updated). But Yahoo is not taking that page. Perhaps I would have less bounce if I could get my main page ranked.
But having ANY page in the SERPs is good at the moment, I am just confused as to why Yahoo is taking my posts and not my main page. They are viewing the post as new content (which it is) and not regarding my home page!
Thanks,
-
Decrease your bounce rate. If users search for "your keyword," click on your site find it irrelevant and immediately return to SERP, your ranking will decrease.
The first thing I would try would be to improve your landing page.

Link Activity to site keeps decreasing
Recently I have started seeing daily declines in the total inbound links to my site. 4 of my top 5 sources are all experiencing pretty significant declines and in fact, Pinterest has declined from a high of 16,295 links in Nov '15 to a current number that is 8,479 on 1/6/16. Any ideas on what could be causing these declines? I did upload a new sitemap in Nov, could this be the cause?

Google SERP showing a URL with UTM_source attached - why? Can I stop it?
I just found a Google search results page showing a URL with a UTM source tag attached. Any idea how or why this has happened? How can I stop it as I'm guessing this is overwriting my organic visits with referrals from this site. See attached photo for pic of SERP page. The link is going here: http://employment.govt.nz/er/holidaysandleave/parentalleave/?utm_source=newzealandnow.govt.nz 5vxTDTi.png

Why is my Domain Authority dropping from 52 to 46 but my Keyword ranking has never been higher?
At the start of August my Domain Authority was 52 but it has fallen to 46 over the course of 8 weeks. At first this was credited to the smaller index that SEOMOZ has taken and when this was certainly in line with our rivals results as well who all suffered a drop. When the index issue was fixed we did see an improvement, back up to 51 at the start of September, pretty much in line with all of our rivals. However our Domain Authority has dropped again and this time it is in complete isolation, none of our rivals have suffered anything like a 3 point drop. Our SEO has never been better with 65% of our keywords ranking in the top 3 and 86% ranking in the top 10. Im wondering what is causing this rapid drop in Domain Authority and what affect, if any, it was have on our future keyword rankings. Thanks, Emmet

Strange Behaviour - Varying rankings across browsers and devices
Hello, I noticed something quite strange over the last week with one of my keywords. I'll explain the lead up to this so it makes more sense. I started SEO work for a client about 3 months ago. One of the keywords I'm trying to increase their ranking for is "auto body calgary". I made a specific landing page for this keyword so it could be better targeted. After I made this landing page I saw their root domain (not the landing page) increase about 10 rankings to number 9 in 2 months. It hung at number 9 for about a month, and then the last month it has decreased to rank 15. For interest sake I searched "auto body calgary" on multiple computers and browsers. On one of the computers I used Safari and my landing page showed up in the number 2 position. On my mobile phone and personal laptop I used Safari and it showed to root domain ranked at 15. I used Google to search every time and wasn't logged in to my Google account on either of the searches. The only thing I've done in the last month is updated some of their directory submissions so they are more consistent. Out of this I have two questions: Why would different browsers show considerably different rankings and pages for a keyword? Since my landing page is more targeted to "auto body calgary" is Google trying to show that page instead of the root domain? (my root domain has considerably more authority than this landing page) Thanks to anyone who can offer insight!

Why such a high page rank with so low metrics in OSE
Hi,
Reporting & Analytics | | sebastiankoch
The website is:
www.s123parka123ble.com (remove the 123) All websites I have ever seen with similar metrics in OSE have normally a PR of 2 or 3 or max 4. This one is PR 5 and I would like to know why. I also noticed that they do not redirect the urls without www. to www. Which is normally bad ... can it be good for some reason in this case? It is PR 5 since a long time I just can´t get why it is PR 5. Please have a look. Thanks!0 -

Distribution of SEOMOZ Ranking Metrics across all Monitored Websites
Hi, I'm looking into building a tool which would incorporate SEOMOZ ranking metrics and I have a few questions with regard to the ranking data which will help me develop it correctly. I have done a few searches, for the information but haven't found an answer to these questions on seomoz - if they exist somewhere then I would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction. 1/. When looking at the values of metrics such as MozRank and DA, is there any information on how this values are distributed amongst the ranked website - EG The mean / median values of DA and MozRank etc of all websites monitored is X & Y . If there were any distribution graphs for these values then even better. 2/. Along the lines of the above - are there any online resources showing similar information for google PR? 3/. What is the calcuation used in the scale of MozRank and DA - ie We have a scale of 1-10 for these values - be we also know the scale in not linear but logrithmic - ie Double the Links of a DA 5 website and you would not end up with a DA 10 website - so what is the calculation which defines the scale. A WBF about google PR by Rand indicated that a value of between 8-9 is used in Google PR - but what about the values used for DA and MozRank etc? Many thanks for your help

Ranking Testing
At times when I change something on my site it effects my rankings. For my business I care mostly about my rankings in certain locations (not local). How can I see how I am ranking in various locations at a given time? I see several tools out there, but none of them seem to work. For example I recently I added a badge to my site and my ranking dropped a spot locally, but I do not think it did elsewhere. The value of the badge is worth that if it is just local, but if it made me drop a ranking in one of my major markets it would not be worth it.
