Wordpress speedup
-
Hello Everyone,
What plugins do you use to speed up wp?
-
Good deal - I'll have to check that one out. I've had some issues with caching plugins before, but it really just depends on the individual setup as to which one works best in each instance.
-
We used W3 Total Cache for about 2 years. But there was a problem with recent versions of this plugin.
The cache is cleared every time, we posted something new.
We have 100.000+ posts in our WP-database. And each time (100+ times a day) we published something, it cleared all our cache objects. (at least in disk-caching mode -> no matter, what settings we used)
So we switched to Quick Cache. This plugin is way simplier. But it does the job for us.

Agreed on everything Tom said above - some solid advice here. You can also try YSlow to locate elements that are causing long load times.
I'll add to check how many database calls your site is performing as a result of the theme and plugins you're running - I have seen this absolutely kill performance. There's a handy little script to tell you some database stats found here.
-
Also if you are getting a lot of traffic, a CDN is a good investment. CloudFlare.com is free. Others are around $20/month.
Finally, we encounter a lot of clients who come to us complaining their sites are loading slowly. Using something like tools.pingdom.com you might be able to tell if there is a giant image file that is slowing everything down. Also, some themes (free and premium) are not optimized well and load jquery 6 times, etc, which will slow down the page speed in a big way.
Finally, and I hate to rag on them all the time, but GoDaddy's hosting is painfully slow and can barely be helped. Move your site if you are on their servers.

There are a handful of caching plugins available, but I usually use W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache.

Redirect 301 /article3.htm http://mysite.net/wordpress/article3/ Google has indexed these new url's and they are showing in search results. I'm almost finished the new version of site and it is currently in a directory /wordpress I intend to move all the files from the directory to the root so new url when this is done will be http://mysite.net/article1/ etc My question is - what to I do about the redirects which are in place - do I delete them and replace with something like this? Structured markup for wordpress
Hello, I am having problems with marking up my WP posts. I used the All-in-One which seems to be the most user-friendly, except when I denote the aspects of the "article" and update, the markup shows up as a box at the bottom of the post (even though the info is in the text). How do I mark these up for Google without having the unseemly box at the bottom? Thanks so much in advance for any help! Btw, I am not altogether comfortable just yet on manual schematic markup (if you have a really basic manual markup that will let me do so across various platforms, I would also appreciate the recommendation). Thanks!

Wordpress Woocomerce Recommended SEO URL structure
Hi Mozzers ! Thanks for looking. I have a new shop in development (http://www.vintageheirloom.biz), I'm now using WordPress & Woocommerce. I've asked Woocommerce whether it is possible to remove the 'shop' and 'product-category' categories. They say it is, but it isn't recommended, it can slow site speed & create possible duplicate pages. I'm wondering what seasoned SEO experts opinions are on my particular structure? I've heard that a flat structure is recommended, but ecommerce shops as I understand pose their own issues, so any feedback would be appreciated.. Here's some URL examples: http://vintageheirloom.biz/shop/bags/ - this for the category bags http://vintageheirloom.biz/product-category/bags/shoulder-bags/ - this for shoulder bags a child of bags category http://vintageheirloom.biz/shop/2-55-bags/vintage-chanel-caviar-skin-2-55-bag/ - a product The last URL contains the category 2-55 bags. The products name also includes the phrases 2-55 bag. Should this level of repetition be avoided or is it best to keep the whole phrase 'vintage-chanel-caviar-skin-2-55-bag/' for SEO purposes? Thanks for any help you can give me around this issue! Kevin

Creating a Target URL For 301 Redirect in Wordpress
I am confused as to what to put in as the target URL. Is this just a new URL that I must create a name for? I am having trouble finding any answer for this on the internet, just more people asking the same question. I am finally realizing that all the information is found right here at SEOmoz to both learn and ask questions about.

Changing title tag in wordpress media pages
Hello! I have a problem of duplicate title on 59 pages in Worpress. I Guess it happened after a recent WP update, because, suddenly, I got a peak of 59 from zero in a day. The SeoMoz crawl report states that there are 59 duplicate title. As you may see in the picture those are all media pages, whose title is written really badly with the formula postname/filename/blogTitle, ending up with trunkated, too long, title tags, that result in duplicate page title. How can I simply hide these mediapages or sculpting the title tag the way I want? I am using all-in-one-seo WP plugin, which doesn't seem to provide a solution. Thank you all! ASP.net to Wordpress - Conserving the Backlink Profile
I am converting a site from ASP.net to wordpress. The ASP site has a decent backlink profile. Most links are pointing to their homepage. Is there anything I should be on the lookout so I do not lose their link profiles? I believe we are using the same server.
