SEO friendly way to move a wordpress installation
-
Hi Mozzers
I am working with a client who currently has 2 wordpress installations on their site - one is in the root domain and one is in a subdirectory /hub which is where the majority of their content is. They want to move all of their content over from the /hub directory into the root installation.
Any ideas of the most SEO friendly way to do this?
Thanks for any suggestions.

If the content is simply duplicated then moving it over with a 301 redirect is the best way to go. If, however, you've got separate, unique content, you may need to export those posts (or copy + paste) from the old Wordpress install into the new one before the shift or you could lose old content from the prior install.
I'd probably recommend contracting a Wordpress developer you trust or who has some experience (many contractors can be found on sites like oDesk, Freelancer, etc.) and asking them to help with the file move if the content isn't duplicated.
Best of luck!

OK great, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything more to it than that

Pretty simple really. Just create 301 redirects from the old url i.e. http://www.domain.com/hub/content1 to http://www.domain.com/content1.
That should transfer the rankings, link authority, etc. as best as it can.

Is there a way to get Google to index more of your pages for SEO ranking?
We have a 100 page website, but Google is only indexing a handful of pages for organic rankings. Is there a way to submit to have more pages considered? I have optimized meta data and get good Moz "on-page graders" or the pages & terms that I am trying to connect....but Google doesn't seem to pick them up for ranking. Any insight would be appreciated!

Canonical Issues with Wordpress
Hi all, I have just started using Wordpress SEO by Yoast and still having a hard time correcting my Canonical issues for all posts with a .html at the end. The pluggin allows you to add a '/' to the end for canonical issues, but just for pages, not posts. How best in Wordpress to make my post change from .html/ to .html. I really don't want to go to the hassle to make each URL a new 301 redirect in my .htaccess. I hate the .html, but if they are going to stay, how can I make sure I get the .html/ link juice back to them. Many thanks!

Problem of printer friendly version.
For one of our client's side, most of the backlinks are going to printer friendly version page. I recommeded to him to use the canonical tag on printer friendly version pointing to other page. Luckily, while searching i came across this posts at - http://www.seomoz.org/q/solving-printer-friendly-version The solution recommended was this - <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" media="print" href="our-print-version.css"> My questions are - 1. what should i write in place of our-print-version.css Should it be print.css ? 2. Where do i place this code ? in which file ?

SEO Friendly Calendar System
Does anyone have a recommendation for a calendar system that is SEO friendly? I have been using Helios Calendar but the current version lacks proper SEO bones (canonical URLs, mini calendar generates links to empty events from 1950 to 2020, 302 re-directs, and it is generating thousands of crawl errors in Google Webmaster Tools. The developer has plans to implement some fixes, and I would rather not rip apart what is currently there to fix core issues. I have found that calendars in general are a nightmare. If anyone has any suggestions, or has experience in tidying up Helios I would be interested. Thanks, Dan
