Please Help ! Strange description
-
The site http://goo.gl/bQkCF is displaying a strange description for keyword "taxi software" in google.com (second position ). Instead of description, text "logo" is being displayed. I understand that there is no description on the site, but still why this text. I would appreciate if you would let me know if anything is wrong with the site.

Yes both js and css, i would also try to get a bit nore content in their also
-
Should i suggest the client to create an external .js file. It will reduce the code by quite a bit.. There are too many lines of javascript code.

Thanks Mark.

Many Thanks Stephen .

Thanks a lot Alan for your time in taking close look at the site and for useful links.

The first text element in the site is the alt tag of an image of "logo".
This explains where it is coming from, as to why slightly stranger.
Look through your source I see no real paragraphed block of text. All of the text seems to be quite short, fragmented sentences.
When google has to create a description by itself it normally tries to find a suitable paragraph containing the keyword. Since I can't even see your keyword within the page, this may explain why google fails on making a relevant description and simply uses the first sentence (single word) it finds.
Solution 1) Add some well written text containing your keyword.
Solution 2) Add a description meta tag.

Hi,
I could not detect a meta description in your code. Maybe try adding this to the page head section:
name="description" content="YOUR DESCRIPTION TEXT" />

If you look at your souce code, it is a long way done the page before you get to any content, the first content found is the alt tag text "logo", this is almost 400 lines of code down the page.
after then there is only short menu text for many more lines, there is not real text content to about 800 lines.
if i take a line of text "Free taxi private hire software" of your page and do a exact macth search your home page is not found in google index. it is found on deeperpages but not on your home page
this is your problem

Google finding my meta descriptions
I recently had my site redone (about a year ago). Since then google has not been using my meta descriptions much and more so using the descriptions within my site. Is there a reason for this? An example would be http://www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/vrp/unit/kolea-14/

*** Please HELP *** A/B tests and optimisation implications
Hi Mozzers, We've been A-B testing landing pages, and have had some success. The changes we've been making have been quite radical in some instances - for example we tested this page: https://www.turnkeymortgages.co.uk/todays-mortgage-deals/ against this one: https://www.turnkeymortgages.co.uk/mortgage-quote/ (Today's best deals won, but we've decided to keep the quote page as it does work for some channels). The decision was made to try and optimise Today's best deals for 'best mortgage deals today' rather than 'mortgage quote' because it offers so much more than simply a quote. The quote page is optimised for 'mortgage quote', though it doesn't rank particularly well (I'm not overly concerned by this as even though you'd think that when people are looking for a quote that they would fill in the form, they don't - people are strange!) As a result of the change above we changed all links that originally went to the quote page to go to Today's best deals instead. As we go through the process of optimising for best conversion will it be damaging if we don't change the url as well. As I can see lots of iterations and lots of work whenever we make changes to the pages (going through the entire site to change the links). I am worried though that we'll end up with hundreds of landing pages and changing links all over the site - do you think we should keep the URLs the same from now on, unless the content changes as radically as it did in the instance I've highlighted above? Thanks, Amelia

Which meta descriptions should I fix first?
Our biggest issue with SEO right now is the lack of meta descriptions. There are a ton of pages that require meta descriptions that we don't know which ones to prioritize first, namely: corporate website pages landing pages for specific content offers that are gated behind a form blog posts Since we can't tackle everything at once, what's best practice around which pages to fix first? Thanks!

SEOMOZ returns duplicate title and description
Hi, When SEOMOZ returns the crawl report results and it shows duplicate descriptions, is it referring to the meta description or is it referring to the actual product description? I have up to 30 products for many different sports teams. Since I have 30 products for as many teams, most of my products are the same and he only thing I did when I populated the site was to change the team name. I left the product description the same otherwise. Thanks, Don

Using rel="author" on product descriptions
Unique and effective product descriptions can be one of the most expensive investments that go into building a retail website. I would consider them part of the "intellectual property" of a company. These descriptions are also one of the most often pirated types of content. Some product descriptions have been grabbed and used by hundreds of pirates. When people grab your product descriptions it creates a duplicate content problem, it also starts cutting off your long-tail traffic. The discussion topic here is.... Have you heard of anyone using rel="author" on product pages with substantive content? Do you think there is any value in doing that? Is this an abuse of rel="author" Thank you!

Meta Description not displaying in Google
Hi Mozzers, I have a client that wants to change the way the meta description for some of his pages is being displayed. I've tried using the NOOPD and NOYDIR tags and its not worked. This isn't the client but perform this search in Google.ie - "accommodation newry daft" you get this result - http://www.google.ie/#hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&q=accommodation+newry+daft&pbx=1&oq=accommodation+newry+daft&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=11197l11712l2l12016l5l5l0l0l0l0l186l851l0.5l5l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=f5c640577bb5a285&biw=1600&bih=775 See how Daft.com (2nd results down) has the text "10+ items" in the description- my client has this as well as do many other competitors but its not present in the meta description tag. Anyone know how to get rid of this and get the good old meta descrition in the SERPs? Thanks BUsh
