Duplicate content

I have just read http://www.seomoz.org/blog/duplicate-content-in-a-post-panda-world and I would like to know which option is the best fit for my case. I have the website http://www.hotelelgreco.gr and every image in image library http://www.hotelelgreco.gr/image-library.aspx has a different url but is considered duplicate with others of the library. Please suggest me what should i do.

Unfortunately, you're both right - using canonical on these could hurt your image search rankings and will remove the individual pages from ranking contention, but at this scale of duplication, indexing all of these is diluting your ranking ability. You could even run into Panda-scale problems or cause enough crawler fatigue that more important pages don't get crawled and indexed.
I'd probably lean toward using canonical tags in this case - the ranking ability of your core pages is more important, in most cases, then the ranking ability of the images. This is especially true with Google's new cached image search, where end-users don't even land on your site (they just view the image directly on Google).
The other option would be some kind of approach that loads the new pictures in the window but doesn't change the URL. That could make the images themselves crawlable but keep them all on one page. There are a few ways to do this, but they take some engineering.
-
What if you have this exact same problem, but the scale is quite large?
For example, when you click on any thumbnail image on this page... http://marketplace.myclassicgarage.com/cars/all/Chevrolet-Corvette-Sting-Ray/52048
it pulls up a new url with duplicate text, title tag, and meta description. The only thing that changes is the image.
This is just one car. This issue is generating thousands of duplicate content errors on my crawl report.
I am currently in an internal debate over this issue. The developer is saying that if we use a canonical then none of these high res images will get indexed for image searches. I'm saying that this creates a tremendous amount of links on each product page that taxes spiders with nothing but duplicate content and prevents them from perhaps crawling as deeply as they otherwise would.
-
If there are links (from external sites) to these images/pages, I'd probably use the canonical tag (to the library, as you said). It's not technically a true duplicate, but that would preserve the link-juice. If there are no links, you could just META NOINDEX them.
I'll add this, though, in your case. Are these the only images (I count 21 of them)? Technically, they're near duplicates, in the sense that they have the same TITLE tags, etc., but if you're talking 2-dozen pages, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. That scale of duplication isn't likely to cause you much trouble.

No i am not using. I would like to know which method to eliminate duplicate should I choose.
For instance, should I canonicalize http://www.hotelelgreco.gr/image-library/mediaLibrary_Results.aspx?photo=1496 to http://www.hotelelgreco.gr/image-library.aspx???

Trying to advise on what seems to be a duplicate content penalty
So a friend of a friend was referred to me a few weeks ago as his Google traffic fell off a cliff. I told him I'd take a look at it and see what I could find and here's the situation I encountered. I'm a bit stumped at this point, so I figured I'd toss this out to the Moz crowd and see if anyone sees something I'm missing. The site in question is www.finishlinewheels.com In Mid June looking at the site's webmaster tools impressions went from around 20,000 per day down to 1,000. Interestingly, some of their major historic keywords like "stock rims" had basically disappeared while some secondary keywords hadn't budged. The owner submitted a reconsideration request and was told he hadn't received a manual penalty. I figured it was the result of either an automated filter/penalty from bad links, the result of a horribly slow server or possibly a duplicate content issue. I ran the backlinks on OSE, Majestic and pulled the links from Webmaster Tools. While there aren't a lot of spectacular links there also doesn't seem to be anything that stands out as terribly dangerous. Lots of links from automotive forums and the like - low authority and such, but in the grand scheme of things their links seem relevant and reasonable. I checked the site's speed in analytics and WMT as well as some external tools and everything checked out as plenty fast enough. So that wasn't the issue either. I tossed the home page into copyscape and I found the site brandwheelsandtires.com - which had completely ripped the site - it was thousands of the same pages with every element copied, including the phone number and contact info. Furthering my suspicions was after looking at the Internet Archive the first appearance was mid-May, shortly before his site took the nose dive (still visible at http://web.archive.org/web/20130517041513/http://brandwheelsandtires.com) THIS, i figured was the problem. Particularly when I started doing exact match searches for text on the finishlinewheels.com home page like "welcome to finish line wheels" and it was nowhere to be found. I figured the site had to be sandboxed. I contacted the owner and asked if this was his and he said it wasn't. So I gave him the contact info and he contacted the site owner and told them it had to come down and the owner apparently complied because it was gone the next day. He also filed a DMCA complaint with Google and they responded after the site was gone and said they didn't see the site in question (seriously, the guys at Google don't know how to look at their own cache?). I then had the site owner send them a list of cached URLs for this site and since then Google has said nothing. I figure at this point it's just a matter of Google running it's course. I suggested he revise the home page content and build some new quality links but I'm still a little stumped as to how/why this happened. If it was seen as duplicate content, how did this site with no links and zero authority manage to knock out a site that ranked well for hundreds of terms that had been around for 7 years? I get that it doesn't have a ton of authority but this other site had none. I'm doing this pro bono at this point but I feel bad for this guy as he's losing a lot of money at the moment so any other eyeballs that see something that I don't would be very welcome. Thanks Mozzers!

Same content pages in different versions of Google - is it duplicate>
Here's my issue I have the same page twice for content but on different url for the country, for example: www.example.com/gb/page/ and www.example.com/us/page So one for USA and one for Great Britain. Or it could be a subdomain gb. or us. etc. Now is it duplicate content is US version indexes the page and UK indexes other page (same content different url), the UK search engine will only see the UK page and the US the us page, different urls but same content. Is this bad for the panda update? or does this get away with it? People suggest it is ok and good for localised search for an international website - im not so sure. Really appreciate advice.

SEO & Magento Multistore - I have been asked if "duplicatiing" a magento stor using its "Multistore" functionality will cause both to be picked up as duplicate content, can anybody help?
Hello all. I have been asked what the consequences of using Magento's "multistore" functionality are if we were to duplicate our entire magento store and place it on a secondary domain... The simple answer which comes to my mind is that it will be a flagged as duplicate content. However, is this still the case if the site were placed in a different country? The original being the UK the copy being Ireland (both English speaking) How would Google.co.uk & Google.ie treat these stores? Hope this is clear... our site is http://www.tower-health.co.uk

Guest blogging and duplicate content
I have a guest blog prepared and several sites I can submit it to, would it be considered duplicate content if I submitted one guest blog post to multipul blogs? and if so this content is not on my site but is linking to it. What will google do? Lets say 5 blogs except the same content and post it up, I understand that the first blog to have it up will not be punished, what about the rest of the blogs? can they get punished for this duplicate content? can I get punished for having duplicate content linking to me?

I need to add duplicate content, how to do this without penalty
On a site I am working on we provide a landing page summary (say top 10 information snippets) and provide a link 'see more' to take viewers to a page with all the snippets. Now those first 10 snippets will be repeated in the full list. Is this going to be a duplicate content problem? If so, any suggestions.
