Overly-Dynamic Urls how to fix in SEOMOZ?
-
Hello.
I have about 300 warnings of overly-dynamic urls.
In urls like this:
http://www.theprinterdepo.com/clearance?dir=asc&order=price&p=10
As you can see all parameters are needed, and my ecommerce solution generates them automatically.
How can I get rid of these warnings? I suppose that by using robots.txt, but I have no idea about it.
In my google webmaster tools I have already configured that these parameteres the crawler should not index them.

Hi Kami,
You might want to ask this in a new post. New posts on old threads don't bump a post in the Q&A forums, so not too many people will see this post (I only knew about it as I was notified from having subscribed last year).

Hi, We sort of have the same issue, We have over 5000 pages with the same issues actually. Our ecommerce site uses several different filter (Using Ajax) and we have many different urls like,
http://www.dellamoda.com/Designer-Pumps.html?sort=price&sort_direction=1&use_selected_filter=Y
http://www.dellamoda.com/Designer-Accessories.html?sort=title&use_selected_filter=Y&view=all
http://www.dellamoda.com/Designer-Accessories.html?sort=title&sort_direction=1&use_selected_filter=Y
Could we use the robots.txt file to disallow these as well? and do we need to put the whole url in there?
like:
Disallow: /*?sort=price&sort_direction=1&use_selected_filter=Y
if not how far into the url should be disallowed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Tony

John, having a ton of URLs indexed for the same page will actually dilute things, not help your rankings. Dr. Pete wrote a great post at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/duplicate-content-in-a-post-panda-world explaining duplicate content that should help give you a better understanding of things.

Hello there,
I have encounter a similar problem in a similar scenario. If we do not allow this pages to be crawled, wouldn't it reduce the number of pages indexed resulting in lower Google ranking?
-
Hi! Did Rasmus answer your question, or are you looking for some more help?
-
Disallow: /*?dir=desc
Disallow: /*&order=
I think yout should try with these lines, and test in Google Webmaster tools. This should leave only this page
https://www.theprinterdepo.com/clearance
That is what you want right?
-
Can I know the syntax for robots.txt to ignore those?
-
Sure thing!
For example:
<a <span="">href</a><a <span="">="</a>https://www.theprinterdepo.com/clearance?dir=desc&order=price" title="Set Descending Direction">src="https://www.theprinterdepo.com/skin/frontend/default/MAG060062/images/i_asc_arrow.gif" alt="Set Descending Direction" class="v-middle" />
This code is the code for reversing the result. So you can check to see if the page has a url query with "dir=asc" (the standard). If so the code above should instead be:
<a rel="nofollow" <span="">href</a><a rel="nofollow" <span="">="</a>https://www.theprinterdepo.com/clearance?dir=desc&order=price" title="Set Descending Direction">src="https://www.theprinterdepo.com/skin/frontend/default/MAG060062/images/i_asc_arrow.gif" alt="Set Descending Direction" class="v-middle" />However, I believe the best approach will be to change the meta tag for robots for the page.
if the url query is dir=asc, order=price then robots="index, follow". If dir is not asc, and order is not price then robots="noindex, follow".

I am a really newbie to SEO, can you please explain me how to do it?
-
Can you either set rel="nofollow" on the links on the page that changes the sorting, such that moz and google do not check these pages? Or you can set the robots="noindex, follow" on pages which are not the "standard" sort?

I'm struggling to understand (and fix) why I'm getting a 404 error. The URL includes this "%5Bnull%20id=43484%5D" but I cannot find that anywhere in the referring URL. Does anyone know why please? Thanks
Can you help with how to fix this 404 error please? It appears that I have a redirect from one page to the other, although the referring page URL works, but it appears to be linking to another URL with this code at the end of the the URL - %5Bnull%20id=43484%5D that I'm struggling to find and fix. Thanks

How do I customize Magento product urls?
I would like my product urls to be /category/manufacturer/name/part#. This would be the only url the item uses and how the product is accessed. It would also be used for product feeds. My first attempt was to use https://amasty.com/magento-unique-product-url.html This creates a single url but I can not customize it. Sometimes it selects the manufacturer and sometimes the category. My second attempt was with https://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/custom-product-urls-seo.html I have it installed but it doesn't change the urls. Has anyone been able to do this successfully?

Should I change or redirect this URL?
Happy Friday everyone! I just noticed that one of our Attorney Profile's url's is wrong. We used to have someone named "Dana Fortugno" as our Family Law attorney, but when he left, (over two years ago) we hired "Scott Finelli." The person who setup the site, just changed the information on the page not url. So instead of it saying "http://www.kempruge.com/scott-finelli-jd-llm/;" it says "http://www.kempruge.com/dana-fortugno-jd-llm/." I'm considering taking all the content on the page with the wrong url, copying it to a new page with the correct URL and 301 redirecting (what would now be a blank page) to the new page with the correct URL. Is this the best way to handle this? Also, I don't believe there are many SEO concerns regarding the pages specifically. The profile pages aren't what we rank for in any of our Family Law related keywords. I am worried about having a completely blank page that just 301 redirects as looking bad to google, but not sure if it would? As always, thank you for your time and any assistance you can provide. Ruben

Google News URL Format
Hi, We are currently redesigning our gaming website (www.totallygn.com) and one of our main goals is to get listed by Google News in future. Looking at the Google News URL requirements "The URL for each article must contain a unique number consisting of at least three digits." How does the above affect SEO structure? I was planning on using a format such as www.totallygn.com/xbox-360/360-reviews/fifa-12-review how would this compare to something like? www.totallygn.com/xbox-360/360-reviews/fifa-12-review234 Thanks in advance for your help

Negative url name?
I have a new client who has the letters "BB" at the start of his url name, bbzautorepair.com. He was told by someone at Google Adwords that the letters "BB" in his url name could hurt him with Google rankings. Reason being that Google red flags anything or website to do with firearms, guns and ammunition. He was told that the letters "BB" could be mistaken or red flagged for "BB Gun". Seems a bit far fetched. Has anyone every heard of such a thing? Thanks

Used SEOMOZ top 100 Directories, my site ranking lowered, what can we do to fix this?
We have made a big mistake.... So what can we do to fix this? A trainee member of staff has used the seomoz 100 top directories and added to sites from PR10 to PR6 approx about 25 sites, using keywords were possible instead of using the website URL "which i now was stupid!. Our website ranking have been lowered big time for all keywords used!, eg from 1st to 10th and even disappeared from the top 100 We are contacting all directories asking for the Title link to be changed to the URL instead of a keyword.. Will this help? I understand that Google give sites a penalty for this!!, but what can i do to put this right and how long would this penalty last for? Any advice would be highly appreciated... Thanks Dean
