Microdata & Competeing against Amazon in the SERPs
-
Hello...
I have an ecomm clients who's competing against Amazon in the SERPs. Amazon does a great job of leveraging micro-data.
Here's the rub... Amazon is ranking for product level pages and my client is ranking for category level pages.
How can my client leverage micro-data to 'compete'?

Let me be more specific...
My question is... in a SERP where I have a category page with no schema mark up & Amazon has a product WITH schema mark-up...
Are there strategies to use schema mark-up on a category page to gain some in-SERP extras - i.e. stars, price, stock info or anything else. with an emphasis on anything else.

Hi Darren,
To answer your question on how you can leverage microdata for your clients website? In a nutshell - just do it. Feel free to refer to Schema.org for documentation and examples.
As far as implementing microdata goes, I highly doubt it will help you "win" in SEO. Why? Mainly because it's a signal for the major search engines to highlight the content, context and relevancy of the page - not a crucial ranking factor. Amazon uses microdata but that's not the reason they are dominating the SERPs.

What is the easiest way to make AMP pages with Wordpress?
Hi Mozzers! I really want to start created AMP pages for my clients sites, but have found a lot of trouble with the top plugins. One was extremely confusing and the other most popular option for a free plugin was super basic and had virtually no customization options. What's the best way to create these for a non developer? Thanks, Ricky

Yoast platinum, news plug-in & meta properties
I have followed some of the discussions about Yoast and the news plug-in, but have not found specific information about the use of meta properties. One of our competitors is successfully using about 15 meta properties to gain news ranking. They list the publisher as Facebook. Is this coding part of the Yoast package or hard coding? As an example:

Proper way to include Location & Zipcode Keywords
I have a client that is insisting that I add a list of approximately 50 cities and 80 zipcodes that their business serves within the keyword meta tag. Based on what I have been reading this will do absolutely nothing to help improve their search ranking. What would be the proper way today to let inform search engines of the geolocations a business serves?

Proper Hosting Setup to Avoid Subfolders & Duplicate Content
I've noticed with hosting multiple websites on a single account you end up having your main site in the root public_html folder, but when you create subfolders for new website it actually creates a duplicate website: eg. http://kohnmeat.com/ is being hosted on laubeau.com's server. So you end up with a duplicate website: http://laubeau.com/kohn/ Anyone know the best way to prevent this from happening? (i.e. canonical? 301? robots.txt?) Also, maybe a specific 'how-to' if you're feeling generous 🙂

Why are Title Tags wrong in SERP
The title tag for this page is the following: "Best Mothers Day Gifts, Unique Mothers Day Gift Ideas | UncommonGoods" However, when you search Mothers Day Gifts UncommonGoods the title tags show up differently. What's up with this? Can I fix it? Is it a problem?

NOINDEX content still showing in SERPS after 2 months
I have a website that was likely hit by Panda or some other algorithm change. The hit finally occurred in September of 2011. In December my developer set the following meta tag on all pages that do not have unique content: name="robots" content="NOINDEX" /> It's been 2 months now and I feel I've been patient, but Google is still showing 10,000+ pages when I do a search for site:http://www.mydomain.com I am looking for a quicker solution. Adding this many pages to the robots.txt does not seem like a sound option. The pages have been removed from the sitemap (for about a month now). I am trying to determine the best of the following options or find better options. 301 all the pages I want out of the index to a single URL based on the page type (location and product). The 301 worries me a bit because I'd have about 10,000 or so pages all 301ing to one or two URLs. However, I'd get some link juice to that page, right? Issue a HTTP 404 code on all the pages I want out of the index. The 404 code seems like the safest bet, but I am wondering if that will have a negative impact on my site with Google seeing 10,000+ 404 errors all of the sudden. Issue a HTTP 410 code on all pages I want out of the index. I've never used the 410 code and while most of those pages are never coming back, eventually I will bring a small percentage back online as I add fresh new content. This one scares me the most, but am interested if anyone has ever used a 410 code. Please advise and thanks for reading.
