Why Does SEOMOZ Crawl show that i have 5,769 pages with Duplicate Content
-
Hello...
I'm trying to do some analysis on my site (http://goo.gl/JgK1e) and SEOMOZ Crawl Diagnostics is telling me that I have 5,769 pages with duplicate content.
Can someone, anyone, please help me understand:
-
how does SEOMOZ determine if i have duplicate content
-
Is it correct ? Are there really that many pages of duplicate content
-
How do i fix this, if true <---- ** Most important **
Thanks in advance for any help!!

Looks like its now sorted!
Checked link: http://www.plasticstorage.com/
Type of redirect: 301 Moved Permanently
Redirected to: http://plasticstorage.com/

Hey Lavellester,
I believe we got our 302/301 issue resolved. Any way you can check through whatever tool you were using last week?
We are still trying to figure out how to fix the code creating the dupe content, but can you advise if i fixed the redirect properly?
Thanks,
-
it will be related to the code/logic of your site creating the duplicate pages. You could work out why/update the code so you only have 1 page for each product OR you could use the rel canonical tag to resolve the issue.
Just thought...as you appear to have so many duplicate pages it may be quicker to look at the logic of the site and fix it all in one go.
-
Lavellester, thanks for all of your help, i am going to have that redirect changed to a 301 ASAP.
Do you have any idea where that duplicate content is coming from since i only have that item in my database once?
Thanks
-
The redirect is still a 302:
Checked link: http://www.plasticstorage.com/
Type of redirect: 302 Moved Temporarily
Redirected to: http://plasticstorage.com
Change the type of redirect to a 301 - this is done at the server level usually.
-
Unless I'm mistaken they appear to be identical duplicate pages.
-
little update:
In our GWT we have both the www version and the non www version.
On the non, we had set the preferred domain as the non www
On the WWW, we also had set the preferred domain as the non www
Does this mean I've done it correctly or not?
Thanks

I am looking into the 301/302 issue right now and i will report back...
Here are 3 supposed duplicate content pages:
<colgroup><col width="64"></colgroup>
|plasticstorage.com/catalog/product/view/id/5079/s/305b1/category/100/
plasticstorage.com/catalog/product/view/id/5079/s/305b1/category/101/
|
|
<colgroup><col width="64"></colgroup>
|Those pages when entered into your browser will appear identical... There is only one 305b1 item in the database. Somehow you can change the "100" or the "101" to "166666662" and you will still see that same "305b1" item.... Can you please help me figure out how or why and is this the "DUPLICATE CONTENT" or perhaps something else is being considered...
Thanks again

I'd still strongly recommend fixing the 301 redirect. The preference in the GWT tools is kinda like a soft preference.
Can you show 2 URSs that are deemed to be the same/duplicate?
-
We have set the canonical through Google to choose the non www version
Some examples of pages that are deemed duplicate is:

Hi there,
One issue is that your www.plasticstorage.com is a 302 redirect to plasticstorage.com. You should update this to a 301 redirect. This will be causing a few issues.
I think the SEOMoz tool shows content that it deems duplicate in the report. Can you post some examples of pages that are deemed duplicate?
Cheers.

I also had duplicate content. The cause was I have 2 similar domains that both led to the same page. Mine were (1) www.msperformanceonline.com & (2) w/o the " www." just msperformanceonline.com Look and see if this is why.

Duplicate content from pagination and categories found in multiple locations
Hey Moz community, Really need help resolving duplicate content issues for an eCommerce utilizing Magento. We have duplicate content issues with category pagination and categories found in multiple locations. here's an example: "www.website.com/style/sequin-dresses" is also found at "www.website.com/features/sequin-dresses" *to resolve this issue do we just need to place a canonical tag on "www.website.com/features/sequin-dresses" pointing to "www.website.com/style/sequin-dresses"? In addition, the category "Sequin Dresses" also has pagination. to resolve duplicate content issues with pagination do we need to implement a rel=next/prev tag? (we do not have a view-all due to the amount of products featured) If anyone has experience with this or any insights on how to resolve these issues please let me know. Thanks!

Too Many On-Page Links Reported By SEOmoz
Hi, I recently did run a crawl report for my blog dapazze.com, and found that SEOmoz is reporting many pages on my blog having more than 100 internal links. I opened OSE, and made a search for one of my pages which was reported to contain more than 100 links. And I found it to contain 464 internal links. Here is the link: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?page=1&site=dapazze.com%2F2012%2F10%2Fwin-a-commentluv-premium-single-site-and-multi-site-license-worth-about-154-giveaway-of-october%2F&sort=page_authority&filter=&source=internal&target=page&group=0 Please have a look at it. I have chosen - Show "All" links from "only internal" pages to "this page" option in OSE, which reports me this. I see almost every page in my blog linking to every page. This is not the problem for me. I have also tried to make a search for some popular bloggers, like ProBlogger.net, ShoutMeLoud.com, HellBoundBloggers.com, etc, and all of them have the same problem. Should I be worrying about this problem? What is the problem actually?

Best practice to solve this Unique duplicate page content issue?
I just got Seomoz Pro (it's awesome!), and when I did a campaign for my website I discovered that I have a big issue with duplicate page content (as well as titles). The Crawl Diagnostics Summary told me I have 196 Crawl Errors Found (I had a total of 362 pages crawled on my site), and as much as 160 of these was duplicate page content. Which to me sounds like a big problem, correct me if I'm wrong (I'm very new to SEO). So our website is an ecommerce that sells greeting cards. The unique part about our platform is that we offer the customer to make a customization of the cards.
On-Page Optimization | | danielpett
Let me walk you through each step a customer takes so you fully understand: They find a card they like and visit the product page of that card (just like on any ecommerce store.) They then decide they want to buy it. There is no "Add to cart" button, they will instead click on a "customize the card" button. 3) This takes them to a step by step process of customizing the card. They change the name on the front of the greeting card so it says for example: "Happy Birthday Katy!". And then adds a personal text on the inside of the card. They then add an delivery address and when it should be delivered. After that they proceed to checkout and it's all done. This is my website (it's in Swedish): loveday.se - it will take you to a product page so that you can click the green button and see what I mean with the customization pages. Hopefully it helps even though it's in Swedish. My issue starts at the customization part of the site (the bolded step above), as I can see the permalinks in the diagnostics I got.
This step-by-step process looks exactly the same with every card in the store. Same call-to-action headline, same descriptive text etc. The only difference is a JPEG-file with the unique greeting card design. So, what is your take on this? Let me know if I was unclear about something. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.0 -
Is reported duplication on the pages or their canonical pages?
There are several sections getting flagged for duplication on one of our sites: http://mysite.com/section-1/?something=X&confirmed=true
On-Page Optimization | | Safelincs
http://mysite.com/section-2/?something=X&confirmed=true
http://mysite.com/section-3/?something=X&confirmed=true Each of the above are showing as having duplicates of the other sections. Indeed, these pages are exactly the same (it's just an SMS confirmation page you enter your code in), however, they all have canonical links back to the section (without the query string), i.e. section-1, section-2 and section-3 respectively. These three sections have unique content and aren't flagged up for duplications themselves, so my questions are: Are the pages with the query strings the duplicates, and if so why are the canonical links being ignored? or Are the canonical pages without the query strings the duplicates, and if so why don't they appear as URLs in their own right in the duplicate content report? I am guessing it's the former, but I can't figure out why it would ignore the canonical links. Any ideas? Thanks0 -
How should we handle ecommerce section pages (flagged with duplication) containing the same products?
We've removed a ton of errors, duplication and other stuff since signing up to SEOmoz Pro, but we're getting to the point where what we have left isn't that easy to fix. On one of our (ecommerce) sites we have several sections where people buy products that are applicable to the area of the home. In one or two instances, a particular list of products is the same for two or more different areas - for instance the "Bedroom and Landings" and "Hallway and Stairs" sections may list the same 10 products. This is obviously flagging up as duplication in our reports. What is the best way to handle this situation? Make the one with the highest authority canonical? Point both to another canonical page? Or, try and convince the product department that we should have a more generically name section that both link to? Thanks for any advice!

If a site has https versions of every page, will the search engines view them as duplicate pages?
A client's site has HTTPS versions of every page for their site and it is possible to view both http and https versions of the page. Do the search engines view this as duplicate content?
