What is the best out-of-the-box optimized WordPress Theme?
-
I've reviewed other answers on this forum and searched the web. Still looking for a good answer that's actually specific and can explain why. I've looked at
- studiopress.com themes,
- pagelines.com which I love but doesn't appear to have much optimization out of the box,
- http://themeforest.net/item/udesign-wordpress-theme/253220
- http://www.vklabx.com/wordpress-themes/wordpress-theme-ad-flex-niche.php
PS - not looking for answers that involve the use of SEO plugins, but if there's a theme you know of that takes minimal editing to improve optimization I'd be interested as well.
Thanks in advance, hope this can help someone else as well

Mainly it is site structure plus speed. It does have quite a few features, so when you use an SEO plugin, there may be some overlapping features to keep an eye out for.

Thanks Jared. Do you have a technical perspective as to why it's better? I'm intrigued and will be reading more on Thesis. Thank you!

Thanks for the answer Robert! I use ThemeForest for themes from time to time, but they are a market place and don't have SEO standards since their sites are designed by individuals. I appreciate the response though and I'm definitely looking at using StudioPress.

I love Thesis and it's all I use.
If it's good enough for Matt Cutts and Search Engine Land, it's good enough for me!

I can speak to this from what my developers say. I personally like StudioPress and have always felt it was a quality set of themes that provided a lot of what clients want in look and at the same time allowed us to personalize it to the degree that made it perfect.
Our lead developer who is a bright guy (prior to us he was a huge Drupal developer, etc. One a national award for a television station site from ABC) likes themeforest. From the point of view of additional coding our interns who are seniors in digital media at a university are able to work with it as well. So, I can't tell you from a pure code point of view, but as being the guy who says yes or no and who listens to the ones who get the job done, I would have to say we lean about 30 studiopress and 70 themeforest.
Hope it helps,
-

Best Way to Handle Multi-Language Sites
In the last year we've made a few significant changes to the structure of our site - namely adding translations for a few languages. We have historically been gaining in organic search by about 10% each month, but in the last two months we've leveled out and seen a slight dip. I am wondering if this has something to do with the addition of the second language, and namely if there's a chance we've been penalized due to duplicate content. We have almost all pages / content on the site translated by a translator, but the way the development works the site will grab the english version if a translation hasn't been added - potentially adding some duplicate content? The URL structure remains the same, other than the addiion of the language - site.com/our-tour vs site.com/de/our-tour We also haven't translated the tour name itself, so that remains the same. Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on best practices here or things I should be looking out for. Thanks in Advance.

Duplicate Content with ?Page ID's in WordPress
Hi there, I'm trying to figure out the best way to solve a duplicate content problem that I have due to Page ID's that WordPress automatically assigns to pages. I know that in order for me to resolve this I have to use canonical urls but the problem for me is I can't figure out the URL structure. Moz is showing me thousands of duplicate content errors that are mostly related to Page IDs For example, this is how a page's url should look like on my site Moz is telling me there are 50 duplicate content errors for this page. The page ID for this page is 82 so the duplicate content errors appear as follows and so on. For 47 more pages. The problem repeats itself with other pages as well. My permalinks are set to "Post Name" so I know that's not an issue. What can I do to resolve this? How can I use canonical URLs to solve this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

On-page Optimization - Is an A grade absolutely necessary?
It is commonly stated that three exact keyword mentions on a page is best practice for SEO. Recently, however, I have noticed a few articles that have hinted against it. matt @highonseo briefly mentioned the subject here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/going-beyond-moz-metrics-to-answer-why-is-this-site-outranking-me Also, one our clients competitors is ranking above them with only one exact mention of the keyword in the page title with no exact mentions in page copy. I know other factors can make a difference, but this is does raise questions of our on-site strategy. I haven’t found any literature that specifically recommends using one exact match of a keyword, so any opinion would be very useful! Thanks

Impact of website redesign when changing to wordpress
Agency designed website and not sure what platform was used. Are now working minor redesign of site but wants to do so in word press. I don't have any problem with word press but don't want to start over ranking for key phrases. I don't want to change URL from mysite.com for the home page. What is the right way to make sure this is done correctly. I could not find a resource on the site. I don't mind researching this but am not sure what to search for to find info. Thanks

Woah, my A-grade optimized pages that were on the first page have all vanished outside the top 50 in Google... is this Panda?
Yep as mentioned, I had some pages hit the top ten pretty quickly after ensuring they were A-grade for pretty uncompetitive keywords however, today, all bar 2 have just vanished from the top 50! All were ranking in Google.co.uk and I know we were predicting the Panda update to hit soon but WOW! My client is understandably a little upset, what on earch do I tell him and what should I do about it? Cheers! jT
