Link Diagnosis and Open Site Explorer
-
I work at a web design firm that's starting to offer SEO to its clients. They want to keep costs down until the SEO side becomes more established, so I've been using mostly free tools to do the SEO. I've been using a website called LinkDiagnosis.com to check backlinks for clients. It says the data is provided by SEOmoz, so I thought it must be pretty reliable. However, I just signed up for the PRO trial to test out all of SEOmoz's tools (& hopefully convince my company to sign us up), and I find that the link information between the 2 tools can be vastly different! Sometimes the number of unique linking domains is very close, but other times it can be off by hundreds, even thousands, with Open Site Explorer typically providing the higher numbers.
Is the Link Diagnosis tool really powered with data from SEOmoz, or does it just receive a portion of the data, since it's a free tool? I'm just trying to figure out what will be the most reliable solution for me to keep using, and the discrepancies between the two tools has caused me to question the reliability of both.
Thanks,
Hector

SEOmoz provides an API of it's Linkscape data that other companies, even individuals can use for their own purposes. Oftentimes companies buy this data and use it in their own reports. Sometimes they use all of the data, sometimes just a portion of it.
Unfortunately, there's no good way for me to tell how Link Diagnosis uses the SEOmoz data. To save money and resources, some companies "cache" the data - which works fine as long as they update the cache regularly. I'm not saying this to disparage Link Diagnosis, I simply don't know enough about them.
That said, you can be assured that Open Site Explorer always has the latest, freshest and most accurate OSE data. Every time you use OSE, fresh data is served with no long-term caching, so it proves itself a very reliable tool for webmasters.

I dont see how you would question the validity of OSE in that scenario
OSE data does change from month to month based on the data from the crawl, maybe LD uses older data? or maybe you are seeing the same data presented with different segments applied - are you looking at exactly the same data?
Just pay for OSE If you want to do seo, you need the tools

Inbound external links
Hi I have a question about inbound external links The good news is that I have 135 inbound links showing up in open site explorer, where my main competitor has 4 The bad news is that these are not the links that I have been building myself. The links are sometimes in a foreign language, rarely in an entertainment category, which my website is, and there seems no way to add a link on the page. I did buy some links when I first started out, but I was advised not to do it again But these are clearly working despite their apparent lack of value Then the question is where are my web directory listings, social bookmarks, social media content and web 2.0 articles, and the links I found my competitor had, that I was able to add my own website on, I have manually grafted for these links, have I been wasting my time with all of these?.

Why my site so poorly ranks on Google
Hi 🙂 I hope you can help me for my site http://www.majordroid.com/ I really do not understand why my site so poorly ranks on Google. What can I do about that? Are there any errors or something? What can be done about that? Also when I go to the Moz Tools - Open Site Explorer to check how many backlinks I have... It says: 12 Total Links but according to the Google Webmaster tools I have in total 334 links and 138 links to the homepage. see attachment Why Open Site Explorer does not see all the links to my site, which is a possible reason? And last question, what I need to do to remove pages from Google search like this: /page/2. /page/3 and so on... Thank you 🙂 aK0x345.jpg

Open Site Explorer Link Metrics
I'm new to SEOMOZ. I have a Pro account and have been messing with the tools available. I ran a report in Open Site Explorer on one of my prospects. I also entered in several of their competitors to see how they rank. I would like to show the report to my prospective client but couldn't figure out how to download the information. Is that info available for download? Does anyone have a recommendation for showing prospects how they rank against their competitors. Any help appreciated.

What do you use for site audit
What tools do you use for conducting a site audit? I need to do an audit on a site and the seomoz web crawler and on page optimization will takes days if not a full week to return any results. In past Ive used other tools that I could run on the fly and they would return broken links, missing htags, keyword density, server information and more. Curious as to what you all use and what you may recommend to use in conjunction with the moz tools.

Is canonical link enough?
Hi SEOmozers! I have a question. SEOmoz analysis report me some duplicate that I thought I had fix. I can give a concrete example. This page: http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/dec2011training-boston/moreinfo is reported as having 6 duplicated URL in the tool. When I click on 6, SEOMOZ tells me "Our crawl bots are getting their joints greased to fetch you even better data. Sorry for the delay!" And on the page itself, I placed a canonical link to follow recommandation. rel="canonical" href="http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/apr2012training-boston" /> As a result I am curious why I would have this reported as duplicate by SEOmoz. Is this a bug? Thanks for feedback!

Links in Open Site Explorer turning into downloads
Hey guys. This is my first question on here so hello 🙂 I have noticed recently a couple of times in Open Site Explorer, when I am checking out links, they are direct download links. The two I have noticed are flash files and with one companies links, dropbox related. Can anyone shed any light on this? I am pretty new to SEO and find it really confusing. Thanks in advance 🙂
