Can I Use Cross Domain Canonical For Duplicate Categories & Product Pages?

I want to fix issue regarding duplicate categories & product pages on my multiple eCommerce websites.

They weant to keep both even though they are duplicates? i would not do that.
but if they have to then i would use a canonical

Yeah, I know that: 301 redirect is best solution for me. But, client does not want to remove old website. They want to make it live as current one. Now, we are focusing more on our main domain & want to rank with new one.

The best is to 301 redirect, but a canonuical will transfer links to new one. so new page will rank better, old page will rank worse.
Why not 301 redirect.
A canopnical is like a 301 redirect but does not move the user to the new page.

So, It will not work for me. I want to rank for new one. I have done lot of link building on old one for good ranking.
Now, client does not want to promote old one & want to rank with new one. That's why I was thinking for cross domain canonical.

The credit given to the old pages will be redirected to the new pages, you will avoid any duplicate content issues, but the old pages will still exist but will low rankings

So, What about ranking of Vista Patio Umbrellas domain. Will Google disappear that result from search result?
I am not sure but, have idea that, Google may replace Vista Patio Umbrellas result with Vista Stores...

Yes as far as google goes you can cross domain canonical, Bing Toolkit picks it up as a violation, but i have heard from somone on this group that they were told by a Bing employee that they have since changed the way the handle them, and now also allow cross domain canonicals
So the answer is yes.

Stub category pages (dupe warning)
Hi I have a number of highly ranked category pages. However, at times these contain no products for a few weeks, etc. They are being flagged as duplicate content as they are just stub pages when they have no products, with the same "No products found" message. I don't want to risk 'noindex' ing the pages though - because as soon as they have products in, they become valuable pages and I would hate to lose a good ranking. Should I just leave them as-is and ignore the dupe warnings?

A/B Testing - Should I add product descriptions on my category landing pages as well as on product pages and if so . how to do this to avoid duplicate content
Hi All, I recently relaunched a new design on my tool hire eCommerce website and now display my products in grid form on my category landing pages as opposed to just a list view which we previously had on the old design. My bounce rates are alot higher than they use to be and my gut instinct is telling me maybe this is wrong . I want to do some a/b testing using a list view. My question is , previously in our list views we just showed the images and pricing and had on page content on the bottom of the page. The user would click on the product image and they would then we taken to the product page which has the product description , t&c, etc etc.. If I was to do this in my a/b testing but change it so we also displayed the product descriptions as well on the category landing pages . Is there a special way to do this as in effect, we would have duplicate content as the product descriptions are also on the product page?. Does anyone have any thoughts on this as to whether its a No No from an SEO point of view ?... Heres a short url link to one of my category pages - http://goo.gl/QJv5gw Historically we use to rank well for the category landing pages and not for the product pages.Our Rankings are down , bounce rates are higher so I am trying to sort both. Does Bing support cross-domain canonical tag?
Hi folks, We are planning to implement a cross-domain canonical tag for a client and I'm looking for some information on bing supporting cross-domain canonical tag. Does anyone knows if there was a public announcement made by Bing or any representative about the support of this tag? URL structure for categories, sub categories and products
Hi, I'm looking for some advice about URL hierarchy and the best way to structure URLs for SEO with regards to categories, sub categories and product pages. The way the site is set up displays the URLs as such, example: 1. /badge-accessories/ 2. /badge-accessories/plastic-wallets/ 3. /badge-accessories/plastic-wallets/clear-flexible-wallets/ I am questioning whether it would be best to keep it like this (which the site developers are suggesting) or change to something like: 1. /badge-accessories/ 2. /plastic-wallets/ 3. /clear-plastic-flexible-wallets/ Or something like: 1. /badge-accessories/ 2. /plastic-wallets/ 3. /plastic-wallets/clear-flexible-wallets/ Any advice would be appreciated. How To Detect Primary Site With Duplicate Domains?
I'm working with some backlink data, and I've run into different domains that host the same exact content on the same IP. They're not redirecting to each other, just looks like they're hosting the same content on differnet virtual hostnames. One example is: borealcanada.ca borealcanada.com borealcanada.org www.borealcanada.ca www.borealcanada.com www.borealcanada.org www.borealecanada.ca I'm trying to consolidate this data and choose which is the primary domain. In this example, it appears www.borealcanada.ca has a high number of indexed pages and also ranks first for "boreal canada". However, I'm trying to think of a metric I can use to definitively/systematically handle this (using SEO Tools or something like it). Anyone have ideas on which metric might help me determine this for a large number of sites?

Does a page on a site with high domain authority build page authority easier? i.e. less inbound links?
Is this also why people build backlinks to their BBB profiles, Yellowpages Profiles, etc. i.e. why do people build backlinks to other pages that link to them? Wouldn't it be more beneficial to just build that backlink directly to your target?

Cross-Domain Canonical and duplicate content
Hi Mozfans! I'm working on seo for one of my new clients and it's a job site (i call the site: Site A).

The thing is that the client has about 3 sites with the same Jobs on it. I'm pointing a duplicate content problem, only the thing is the jobs on the other sites must stay there. So the client doesn't want to remove them. There is a other (non ranking) reason why. Can i solve the duplicate content problem with a cross-domain canonical?
