Reciprocal links

Hi SEOmoz Pros,
We have vendors from whom I was hoping to get links.
To make it more enticing to them I was planning to select a small number of vendors (with good site metrics-PA, DA, PR) and create a "Featured Vendor" module on some pages that would link back to the vendor's site as well--thereby created reciprocal links.
I was planning to only have one vendor to a page and only for the pages that we are targeting locally. My hope is to help boost the ranking of those pages.
Is it okay to offer our vendors to link back to their site or should I ask for a one-way link back to our page and pitch it as exposure for their brand??
Lastly, does Google penalize for these types of links?

I definitely agree with you about one way links being better in general. However, if Google reduced 100% of the link value.. then blogs like SEOmoz wouldn't do well at all because they link back to tons of sites

Even though the intention might be better, the Google Algorithm doesn't take into account intention. If it sees two pages linking to each other, it will flag it as reciprocal and reduce at least some of the value of each link, if not all. I'd recommend asking for a straight one-way link. Maybe offer your vendors a badge to put on their site as a sign of pride in your working relationship. The badge could then link to you, and both of you benefit without a link exchange...

This sounds completely legit to me.
Google just doesn't want you to exchange links for the sole purpose of manipulating search results.
But in your case, you both are giving each other brand exposureYou could ask for one way links, as those may be a bit more valuable.. but I wouldn't stress over it either way, you're on the right track IMO.

A few questions about unnatural links
i have just had another reconsideration request rejected by Google. In my rejection message they have given me 3 examples of unnatural links, but two of them I have had nothing to do with. My website is http://www.seoco.co.uk Here are the 3 links they mentioned: http://www.pyjamapeople.com/articles/authors/107/David-Eaves http://www.timeandattendance.co.uk/blog/?tag=access-control http://www.worx.at/blog/und-punkt/ the 1st one is just a website that republished one of my articles, I never submitted there or anything. Do I need to contact every single website that republished one of my articles and get those removed? Are they not classed as natural? Also, the page is not even cached by Google, why are they telling me to get rid of links that are not even in their index? The 2nd link is a client site and is definitely unnatural, I removed my link from the main part of the site a while ago but the blog footer was not updated, I will take care of that one. The 3rd link is a totally natural blogroll link that I had nothing to do with. What do you think I should do about it? Should I mention to Google on my next reconsideration request that it is in fact natural, or should I just bite the bullet and get it taken down? Does This Link Have Value?
Hi Mozzers, A client paid to publish a white paper, thinking that the link to the web site is beneficial. External links - link to third party sites
Greetings! Actually, got an doubt on linking to external site. The thing, i have working for roof marketers site. They have covered roof products. Each of the products have a page along with major keyword. Actually, i do link from other pages[internally]. Meaning,if i see any main keywords in different page then will link that to corresponding page/product[internally].This is what i am doing to get page rank. Now, my doubt. Some of the pages are having link with main keywords which directs to the third party site those who are really producing the products. But, i remove the third party-link which has with main keywords. Since already the site/my client site having pages for that main keywords. But client really want that link. meaning the links which they have given to direct to third party[product producer] site. So what should i do at this case. Can i just past RAW link like [http://www.thirdpartysite.com] or what do i do. But my client wants that link to be in content area. Hope you would understand my long explanation and case Please help us. Thank you

Disavow Dead Links?
I haven't found a good answer to this yet. I know the whole "disavow" tool is still relatively new but we have a ton of dead links, actually most of the dead links are sites that have 404'd. Is it necessary to disavow these?

What are the pros and cons of using a link builder? Can link building be outsourced?
Hi, I have great content on my website which I would like to build external links to from other websites. Â I am told this will increase my domain authority and ultimately help search engine ranking positions. Â I have very limited time in my hands and now thinking of outsourcing the link building component to a specialist. Is this a good way of doing it? Could you recommend professional link builders?

About buy broken links...
I found some web adress that are not online anymore.. but when I open these adresses on open site explorer I can see  links and page athority for these domains... PA 41  and  DA 29 My question is... Can I buy these adress and using their page and rank juice to my website? Because they are avaliable... All these domains are from my country and LTD What can I do...? Thank you

Internal Linking - 100 plus links
Hi Everyone, I have a question of how the on-page links are being counted. Say you have a page with a warning of having too many on page links (100+). How are all of these links counted? Let's say there are only 5 links on that page. Do the links on each of those pages count too and so on and so forth? I just want to make sure I have wrapped my head around this correctly. Thanks!

Iframes vs links
Obviously, websites can link to another web site using iframes, and Google and other search engines do seem to have some capability to index the content.
