H1 Tag.
-
As far as I know to rank well H1 tag should be present in all pages and it should be one of the first things in the page, it also should include the keywords.
I was checking my site and magento generates the H1 with an image,
I dont know if this is wise?
class="logo">The Printer Depo<a <span="">href</a><a <span="">="</a>http://www.theprinterdepo.com/" title="The Printer Depo" class="logo">width="377px" src="https://www.theprinterdepo.com/skin/frontend/default/MAG060062/images/logo.gif" alt="The Printer Depo" />

Can you please explain more? I am seo beginner, so for now I am just correcting the things that seomoz pro tells me, errors and warnings. I have reduced errors to 0, and I am trying to reduce warnings also.

I don't think that the H1 makes a massive amount of difference on its own. However, I think that search engines do actively look for a semantic structure. In other words, you should use H1 and structure the content along with H2 and H3, and a couple of image ALTs in there for good measure.
To be honest, your site has a few other SEO issues that I would look at first like lack of textual content and webmastery for example.

Hi levalencia1
H1 tags are a ranking factor, though one of so many and have a very small direct impact on rankings.
Is still worth having an appropriate & relevant H1 tag though, perhaps more-so for User Experience than for SEO.
Ideally, H1 tags would be actual text rather than a logo or an image. However so long as the logo/image has descriptive Alt Text (which it does in the example in your question, though maybe 'Printers & Printer Supplies' would be better than the brand name) then that's also fine.
Hope that helps,
Regards
Simon

There should be a unique heading on each page to give crawlers a good start on determining the topical relevancy of the page.
Heading tags should only be used as headings (think about how you would layout a document or thesis.. you would structure the text ordered with
s then
s etc
In this case, it looks like there is a unique
tag on each of the category & product pages - I wouldn't worry about it too much

Hi.
First of all I'd like to tell you one thing: H1 is not anymore so determinant as a single ranking factor, as you can verify from the 2011 Search Engine Ranking Factors by SEOmoz.
Said that, H1 is still important, especially to help Search Engines to understand "semantically" the content of the page the same H1 is present.
That means that neither the standard solution Magento offers, neither your idea are totally correct.
Let me explain it.
To have as H1 the Logo of your site, means that you are going to have the same H1 for every page of your site. This is not suggested, because you are indirectly telling to the crawlers that "The Printer Depo" is an important keyword for every page your site have... and that is not surely true.
More over, having as H1 you logo (hence, the alt text of it) can cause that more H1 tags will be present in your page (i.e.: in the product page, usually the name/title of the product is treated as H1); and this is not really a good practice, also because you are telling to the search engines that your document is about the 1st H1 keywords and the 2nd one too, fact which may create confusion.
My suggestion (which is also a suggestion Yoast offers in its old but still useful Magento SEO guide) is to maintain the logo as H1 in your home page (using the hack you did is ok), but making the logo has H3 in all the other pages.

Understanding Redirects and Canonical Tags in SEO: A Complex Case
Hi everyone, nothing serious here, i'm just playing around doing my experiments 🙂
Technical SEO | | chueneke
but if any1 of you guys understand this chaos and what was the issue here, i'd appreciate if you try to explain it to me. I had a page "Linkaufbau" on my website at https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau. My .htaccess file contains only basic SEO stuff: # removed ".html" using htaccess RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^GET\ (.*)\.html\ HTTP RewriteRule (.*)\.html$ $1 [R=301,L] # internally added .html if necessary RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.html -f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/$ RewriteRule (.*) $1\.html [L] # removed "index" from directory index pages RewriteRule (.*)/index$ $1/ [R=301,L] # removed trailing "/" if not a directory RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} /$ RewriteRule (.*)/ $1 [R=301,L] # Here’s the first redirect: RedirectPermanent /index / My first three questions: Why do I need this rule? Why must this rule be at the top? Why isn't this handled by mod_rewrite? Now to the interesting part: I moved the Linkaufbau page to the SEO folder: https://chriseo.de/seo/linkaufbau and set up the redirect accordingly: RedirectPermanent /linkaufbau /seo/linkaufbau.html I deleted the old /linkaufbau page. I requested indexing for /seo/linkaufbau in the Google Search Console. Once the page was indexed, I set a canonical to the old URL: <link rel="canonical" href="https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau"> Then I resubmitted the sitemap and requested indexing for /seo/linkaufbau again, even though it was already indexed. Due to the canonical tag, the page quickly disappeared. I then requested indexing for /linkaufbau and /linkaufbau.html in GSC (the old, deleted page). After two days, both URLs were back in the serps:: https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau.html this is the new page /seo/linkaufbau
b14ee095-5c03-40d5-b7fc-57d47cf66e3b-grafik.png This is the old page /linkaufbau
242d5bfd-af7c-4bed-9887-c12a29837d77-grafik.png Both URLs are now in the search results and all rankings are significantly better than before for keywords like: organic linkbuilding linkaufbau kosten linkaufbau service natürlicher linkaufbau hochwertiger linkaufbau organische backlinks linkaufbau strategie linkaufbau agentur Interestingly, both URLs (with and without .html) redirect to the new URL https://chriseo.de/seo/linkaufbau, which in turn has a canonical pointing to https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau (without .html). In the SERPs, when https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau is shown, my new, updated snippet is displayed. When /linkaufbau.html is shown, it displays the old, deleted page that had already disappeared from the index. I have now removed the canonical tag. I don't fully understand the process of what happened and why. If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful. Best regards,

Are nofollow, noindex meta tags healthy for this particular situation?
Hi mozzers, I am conducting an audit for a client and found over 200 instances using meta tags(nofollow, noindex). These were implemented essentially on Blog pages/category pages, tags not blog posts which is a good sign. I believe that tagged URLs aren't something to worry about since these create tons of duplicates. In regards to the category page, i feel that it falls in the same basket as tags but I am not positive about it. Can someone tell me if these are fine to have noindex, nofollow? Also on the website subnav which are related to the category pages mentioned prev, the webmaster have implemented noindex, follow(screenshot below), which seems ok to me? am i right? Thanks 8egLLbo.png?1

Canonical tags
How hard is it to put in Canonical tags on a webpage? My web guy didn't do it because he put in redirects in place for all old URLs and all content
Technical SEO | | Boodreaux
(except error pages and advanced searches) should have a unique URL. By not having canonical tags does it lose link juice? Not sure if that question makes sense. 🙂 Poo1 -
Multiple H1 tags on same page
Hi Mozers I have a doubt regarding H1 tags. I know H1 tags will not give some special SEO value. But is there any issue if we are using multiple H1 tags on a same page? For example on the seomoz.org blog home page I saw 16 H1 tags (seomoz.org/blog). Is that ok to use like that? Can I completely ignore all my worries about H1 tags?

Unique Title Tags OR Unique Content?
The content management system for my e-commerce site will not allow me to add both: unique content and unique title tags to each of my product category pages. Since I am forced to choose one or the other...which one is more important for rankings? And please dont answer "get a new CM system"...thats not an option. Thanks

Multiple h1 headers in a slideshow
I’ve built a slideshow and each slide contains an image, h1 and text contained within a div. The slideshow grabs the whole div and slides it. My question is should I remove the h1 and style it with css e.g. my slide header or leave in the multiple h1 headers. All thoughts and comments welcome.

Should i use NoIndex, Follow & Rel=Canonical Tag In One Page?
I am having pagination problem with one of my clients site , So I am deciding to use noindex, follow tag for the Page 2,3,4 etc for not to have duplicated content issue, Because obviously SEOMoz Crawl Diagnostics showing me lot of duplicate page contents. And past 2 days i was in constant battle whether to use noindex, follow tag or rel=canonical tag for the Page 2,3,4 and after going through all the Q&A,None of them gives me crystal clear answer. So i thought "Why can't i use 2 of them together in one page"? Because I think (correct me if i am wrong) 1.noindex, follow is old and traditional way to battle with dup contents
Technical SEO | | DigitalJungle
2.rel=canonical is new way to battle with dup contents Reason to use 2 of them together is: Bot finds to the non-canonical page first and looks at the tag nofollow, index and he knows not to index that page, meantime he finds out that canonical url is something something according to the url given in the tag,NO? Help Please???0
