How can I Monetize My Site with The Type of Traffic it Receives?
-
I was just in here yesterday asking a question, so I appreciate everyone's patience with this newbie!
This is a totally different site that I have a question about so here goes:
I have a site that has started to receive large amounts of traffic from an image search. My intention was to use Amazon for products based on my website theme. I haven't been getting traffic from my intended keywords.
Now I rank #2 for an image search, loads of traffic! GREAT! But what next? These ppl. aren't looking to buy stuff, they just want the image. Fine, it is a public domain image.
I thought of adding some more informational articles and using adsense to bring in some cash.
Any opinions on the best way to go with this site? I only have 3 articles up so it could go in any direction from here.
Thanks!!!

Thanks this helps me a lot! I am just going to go ahead and try to build the site as an informative website on the subject. Put some adsense up and see how it goes.

I have sites that get lots of traffic from image search and can tell you that the value of an image search visitor can be very very low for most topics. However, if you have a product that people shop for using image search (such as antique glassware) then image search visitors can be genuine buyers.
I have tried a lot of different ways to make money from websites and find that for sites that do not sell a product that it is really hard to beat the return provided by Adsense. I would try Adsense first then look for something better - which you may never find.
-
Right that makes sense, I guess I am wondering if there is any way to turn the traffic itself into money OR is it just an overall boost in my ranking power and I will still need to find a way to rank for keywords that will bring in money.
I am new to ranking for images and curious about whether this type of search ever translates to clicks and money???!!!
I have a lot of visitors who bail right away and many who stay for only about 30 seconds, probably to download the image. But there is prob 1 out of 10 ppl who came through and image search who stay quite a while. I would imagine those ppl might click on something Adsense, Amazon, or whatever is there.
Any info advise on image search specifically would be greatly appreciated!

Samuel,
i also use adsenses to generate some income and i must say that it works well.
In 2011 i earned over 30,000 $ on adsenses with just 5 websites. Next to that i also use affiliation to generate some extra income.
my advise: try before you die. Try Adsense and wait 2 months so you know what you get. You don't like results? Prehaps affiliation is better for you. It could be.

Adwords landing pages with no site links
Adwords best practices say to focus landing pages on conversions, with no navigational links to the rest of your website so they don't get distracted. However, now that Google Ads in the SERPs look so similar to organic results, visitors may click the ads instead of the organic result because that's what they see first. What is the risk of turning off these visitors who come to a landing page with a form, instead of a way to navigate through the rest of your site? Discussion question: Trade-offs between a form-focused landing page and providing navigation to the rest of the site?

Site Customisation - Urgent Input Required!
Hello, We are currently setting up a way of customising a client's site based on PPC campaign. I am wondering whether or not there are any SEO issues we need to be aware of. Overview Our client’s site, as accessed by a user through Google Organic, will be the complete site; the same site Googlebot will see. The site, as accessed by a user through a particular Google Adwords campaign, will return a customised version of the site. How the Customisation is Happening The Adwords campaign will be set up to target a particular region, using Adwords’ built-in location targeting. Its ads will link to pages on the regular site, but each URL will be appended with a URL parameter that will trigger the customisation. A cookie will also be planted in these users’ browsers to ensure that the customisation continues as the user browses from page to page on the site. The majority of the content will be the same but the site will promote a particular store of the client, one local to the searcher. Other stores won’t be promoted on this customised version of the site. SEO Thoughts All pages will have canonical tags on them referencing the original, unmodified version of the page. I personally can’t see any issue with regard to SEO because we are approaching this in the spirit of helping the user. But with launch on the horizon I am starting to worry slightly and would welcome the feedback from anyone else here – are there any SEO issues that may arise from this?

Microsites vs. one site
My client has created a product that he wants to market to two, very different, audiences. The goal is to funnel them through the site and get them to purchase. My question is about the best SEO strategy on how to do this effectively. Since they are distinct audiences with little in common we've recommended building two microsites, and optimizing each with unique content and different keyword focus. I realize it will be harder to optimize two sites rather than one, but it seems to make sense from a user perspective. But once the users goes to a "non-audience specific" page, like any page that is about the product or company and not about the audience, should we build yet a third website that houses the "company/product pages" and channel the conversions there in order to avoid having duplicate content on the two other sites? Or should we put the same "company pages" on both the Audience A and Audience B websites, only vary the text so it doesn't look like duplicate content. Or is the microsite strategy flawed all together? Please keep in mind this is a brand new product and it has national scope. There is no local focus. We will be building their rankings entirely from scratch. I REALLY appreciate any insights you may have. We have been going around and around about this. Thanks

Any SEO tips for optimizing / driving traffic to category pages?
Hello! I listened to Adam Audette at Linklove in Boston this month and he spoke a little on creatively linking product pages back to their respective category pages - as it had an effect on the SEO... However, I don't know much about "internal" linking... Any other SEO tips for optimizing / driving traffic to category pages? Thanks!

Can Adwords campaigns affect other campaigns performance?
I understand that keywords and adgroups within a campaign can affect the performance of other keywords within that parent campaign. I was interested to understand whether campaigns in my account can affect one another. I have an adwords account with around 30 campaigns. Some are heavy hitters and others get minimal to 0 traffic. Will these low quality campaigns drive up the costs of my high end campaigns?
