Youtube as seen on error
-
I have a yt channel with almost 9000 subscribers. On it i post video game guides (partnered through machinima so its allowed) and then i embed the videos onto my site.
All my competitors do teh same but when they do so it will display a message saying "As seen on "site name" " with a link there.
For whatever reason my site link does not show
It says As seen on but no link. not even my site name. it just says "As seen on BLANK"
How can I fix this?

I feel your pain. It's really irritating to see other sites getting some attribution for your work, but unfortunately we're dealing with relatively new functionality here and as such, it's not yet super sophisticated. Going forward, you may hopefully find that YT gets smarter at appropriating attribution to the content creators, but in the mean time - it has a choice between two relatively poor quality references and is simply picking one over the other.
I don't think it will have anything to do with your domain name, but you are currently not linking back to the original post on your site within the vid meta description. probably worth putting this in. It's only a nofollow link without anchor text, but still a relevant reference. You might also want to try linking back to your channel on the post with the embed code.
Another thing I would recommend trying is bringing in lots of views to the video on your own site. If two sites have embedded the content, but one is generating more views than the other, then these seems to me to be a relatively sensible metric for determining "as seen on" attribution. I haven't tested this to see if it's true, but It cant hurt to give it a go.

That seems to reflect a lot of what I am seeing. I see a lot of people wondering why other sites are put in and theirs are not.
As for the idea about it being only on the blog post page and not my main site - - - -
Most the other sites that have videos mentioned on the as seen on also just have it on a news update post like me. Often with no backlinks and all as well.
I even had a lot of videos embedded on one my more important pages with thousands of backlinks and was my most viewed page for 2 months and it still did not trigger youtube to properly reference my site.
I found my youtube social page
http://www.youtube.com/social/blog/legendzelda
And it seems to be picking me up just fine. It just does not show my site name when it does show the "as seen on" I am thinking it may be because of my domain name. Thoughts on that?
Thanks so much for the help

Thanks for providing all the information! I've gone through everything in a bit of detail and ran it by some of the other SEOs here at Distilled and the prevailing opinion seems to be, "it's a very inexact science", which I know isn't what you'd want to here, but there are a few things which you can try to do to increase your chances of getting an "as seen on" listing in YT and picking up your own vids.
YouTube create as seen on listings, in the main, for high authority blogs which frequently reference YouTube videos. They don't worry about who has built the video - but rather, who embeds the video, provides a lot of supplementary information and provides "extra value" which may be of use to those watching the video on YouTube.
Now, while you have a high authority blog with some good links, the page with the video on it: http://legendzelda.net/skyward-sword/eldin-province-silent-realm-video-guide/ is extremely thin. There is no real "added value" on this page which means there is no real reason why I should watch it on your site rather than YouTube. The page also doesn't really have good authority metrics - with no links and social shares.
If you build more supporting content around the video and build the authority of the page - YouTube should start to reference your site for "as seen on", providing that you regularly embed YT videos and providing good supporting content.
Unfortunately, YouTube may always reference your competitors above you if they embed your video and provide better surrounding data. It's kinda sucky, but you're still getting the link and the referalls to the video. Couple of examples below of how Distilled videos have been claimed by competitors "as seen ons" and how we've randomly been given the links for various vids based purely on the blog post authority.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYE2pVGjZFE
That is one the videos. As you can see it says "As seen on" but there is no link to the site it is seen on which is
The channel
http://www.youtube.com/user/TheHiddenTriforce?feature=watch
Then we have this video, done by one my competitors of much smaller size
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVsEoAFItME&blend=1&lr=1&ob=0
Its as seen on goes to another one my competitors who posted the video for him

Hi Michelle,
This sounds interesting and I'd love to take a further look at it for you. Could you give me a link to the YT channel you mentioned and also some examples of the videos being embedded on other's sites without your link?
Thanks,
Phil.

How to optimise Youtube videos
Hello Mozers I have four individual 'Benefits' videos on our companies Youtube channel. Three describe individual benefits and one is a composite of all three. All the videos have an audio script to accompany the visuals. I have been asked to optimise these videos and so far I have added: Title, Description and tags within the 'Info & Setting' section for each video. However I am sure that I should be adding more information to optimise these videos more completely. I have the audio transcript in written form and have a hunch I should be adding the relevant audio transcript to each video. Currently in the section 'Add new subtitles on CC' I have 'Published' 'English (Automatic), which is an approximation of the actual script. Could anyone point me to a resource which clearly shows how to accurately add subtitles to a video. Is it just a case of cutting and pasting and manually timing, or is there a slicker way of adding the text? Thanks Catherine

Will subtitling Youtube video Be worthwhile?
We've been thinking that maybe it would be beneficial in terms of SEO to supply our YouTube videos with CC / subtitles. Unfortunately, this is very time consuming, so we would like to know, basically, if it's worthwhile. Does any of you have any expectations or even experience with this, you'd like to share with us?

Embedding Youtube Video Problem
I'm under the impression that when working with WP, it's best to embed videos from youtube rather upload your own video. However, I really don't like the video previews that come at the end of video if it's embedded from you tube. Is there a way to "turn that off" so the video just ends without previewing all the other videos? Thanks, Ruben

Trying to link a Legacy Youtube account to a Google+ Page, the option isn't available...
Hello,
Social Media | | allstatetransmission
I am working on one of my clients projects and would love some advice before making some changes to their Google+ and Youtube account. We created the youtube account before Google+ and Youtube combined so we have a seperate name for the Youtube and Google+ Profile. They were created using separate emails, but both emails are managers of each others "account." We can't combine the two as it won't give me the option, only the option to create a new Youtube channel based on the Google+ Profile. But I already have videos loaded up on the Older Channel that I would like to keep and use for my current Google+ Profile. I have tried to disconnect the Youtube channel to hopefully get the option to link the two, but it just says it is a unavailable option. So my question is:
What advice do you guys have with any of this type of Youtube and Google+ mismatch profile/channels? I am not finding much online besides links to unattaching accounts but that is giving me a message saying that it isn't possible. Or would creating a new channel linked to the Google+ page and just reuploading the videos/transcripts be my best bet? Thank you for your feedback, and if you want anymore details (I know this description when not looking at the accounts might not be enough info, feel free to ask.) I really appreciate it. J0 -
Anyone seen REAL proof that White Hat & Social Signals leads to rankings ?
Trying to be a good, clean SEO, I have been spending the last two and a half years focusing a lot on building up solid social communities on Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, Pinterest and YouTube. Back when I began doing this, I believed that old school link-building was on its way out, and that, to stay on the 'clean', White Hat side of Google, social was the way to go for future success in organic search. But my main competitor is STILL buying links left and right, and has absolutely no social media following...and he's kicking my butt more and more in the rankings. And I seem to be losing out with my strategy. So I would really like to know: have any of you experienced proof, first hand, that you can win with SEO by focusing on social signals, and by letting NATURAL, earned links pretty much take care of themselves, by trying to create good content? Because I am FRUSTRATED. I thought I was being one of the good guys. I thought I was going the safer, risk-free way to success. And I knew it would take me longer to become successful this way...but it's been YEARS now, and I still don't see any signs of it happening any time soon !

I want to upload one of my youtube videos to my Google+ Account.
I want to include videos from my youtube channel on Google+. Does this mean I have to save the video file on my PC at first and then upload it?

Youtube and SEO
Hello, For a game site I would like to use Youtube for SEO purposes. And I need a little advice on this. How would you use these video's without spamming? There are a lot of tactics to use Youtube. Create channel and put your desired url in the profile (link back to your site), Put your desired url in in the description of the video (link back to your site), Put the created youtube video also on your own site to drive traffic to youtube, and back. And get views. Put a created channel on your own site to drive traffic to youtube, and back. And get views. Other tactics I don't know.... Can someone advice me what tactics I can use without spamming, I'm afraid that if I use combinations of the above mentioned tactics I get an unnatural linkprofile.... Thank you in advance. Regards, Thomas

Youtube SEO: Does your channel name / user name matter?
My predecessor left me a gift of what is arguably the worst kind of Youtube channel name: Our company's name condensed to an acronym with some additional gibberish that may or may not have meant something to her. In short: Our channel name will never be searched for, will never provide any ranking boost. Now our Youtube success has been very marginal so far: 31 subscribers, 7,300 video views. Given that situation, should I seriously consider scrapping my channel and starting something new with a keyword targeted channel name? Or does channel name matter so little that I should hold on to my 7300 video views?
