Content Tabs and Keyword Stuffing
-
I am in the process of drawing up content templates to guide my company's marketing team in creating SEO optimized content as we move over our retail website to a new platform. On each product page, we will have multiple tabs that are crawl-able, each one containing different chunks of information on the products.
Within each tab, I was thinking of breaking up the content and adding SEO value by using headers (h2 or h3) that have a keyword included. So, for example: "How The PRODUCT NAME Works" and "User Manuals for your PRODUCT NAME."
Between the multiple tabs, in headers alone, the main keyword for the product (which will usually be the product name) will be on the page 7 times. Between this and the keywords that are part of the actual content (ex: product description), is this too many keyword instances?
I know headers are often skimmed or skipped when used to simply break up the content, so I don't think they will impact user experience too much. However, I would love some feedback on if you agree with that and if you think I should cut down on the number of keywords or if I am headed in the right direction.
Thanks!

I've found most copywriters understand density well enough to get it.
It would help to give them a short primer on semantic relationships and search. Use specific examples and the ~ operator in Google. Explain something like how auto relates to car but auto service and car service mean totally different things.

The content definitely serves the reader. We strive to provide unbiased, in-depth reviews on all of our products. So, for example, each product page has: a basic description, a video review, an overview of how the product works, an overview of its functionality, pros/ons, etc etc.
That's why I was hoping to add the bulk of the keywords to headings, to break up the vast amounts of content and give the pages some SEO value without altering the writing style that our customers enjoy and get so much use out of.
I'll go through and write up a page as it would appear on the site with all the tabs and then do some analysis to look at keyword density.
Also, I won't be the one writing most of the content (hence the guides). Do you have any advice on how to convey best practices with keyword density without getting overly technical?
Thanks so much for your help!

It probably doesn't need to be said, but first make sure the content you're developing serves your reader. I can't stress that enough. Never write content specifically for SEs.
Now, to the meat, in my experience density percentages between 2 and 5 seem to work best. You can go all TF-IDF and LDA on it, but simple measure reads 2-5%.

How to NOT keyword stuff in long form content
My homepage has an authoritative guide with long form content. As a result, my main keyword is mentioned 40+ times. It's not forced, but natural, and the frequency of it is a function of the length of the article. Is that okay? Any suggestions or advise?

Am I accidentally Keyword Stuffing?
Hey Guys, So I updated some copy on my site recently and noticed that whatever slender rankings I had (often on page 😎 have completely disappeared. The copy was the only change I have made. Now I haven't intentionally keyword stuffed however I have noticed that there happens to be a lot keywords in there. For example on my PPC page I use the phrase PPC 16 times however it has just naturally fallen into the content as that is what I'm writing about. I'm wondering if there are maybe too many mentions here? 16 repeats of the word PPC and on the page there are 490 words. Does that feel like too much repetition or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks, Matt

Would you consider this title to be keyword stuffing or bad?
A competitor uses the following format for all of their meta titles: [Store Name] Voucher Codes, Cashback & Discount Codes | [Website Name] They do vary their titles slightly, depending on which keywords are searched for, for the particular store. What do you think about this title? I'm torn between it looking a little 'stuffy' but them also getting across the point that their page offers all of that.

Duplicate and thin content - advanced..
Hi Guys Two issues to sort out.. So we have a website that lists products and has many pages for: a) The list pages - that lists all the products for that area.
On-Page Optimization | | nick-name123
b) The detailed pages - that when click into from the list page, will list the specific product in full. On the list page, we perhaps have half the description written down, when clicked into you see the full description.
If you search in google for a phrase on the detailed page, you will see results for that specific page including 'multiple' list pages where it is on. For example, lets say we are promoting 'trees' which are situated in Manhatten. And we are also promoting trees in Brooklyn, there is a crossover. So a tree listed in Manhatten will also be listen in brooklyn as its close by (not from America so don't laugh if I have areas muddled)
We then have quite a few pages with the same content as a result. I read a post a while back from the mighty Cutts who said not to worry about the duplicate unless its spammy, but what is good for one person, is spammy to another.. Does anyone have any ideas as to if this is a genuine problem and how you would solve? Also, we know we have alot of thin content on the site, but we dont know how to identify it. It's a large site so needs something automated (I think).. Thanks in advance Nick0 -
Duplicate Content Daily Rates
Our finance information site want to publish daily rates each day of the main currency / share etc prices. We've created a template with the main headers e.g. Eurozone. GBP v EUR 1.1762. Australia. GBP v AUD 1.1494.... and list top 20 currencies. We want to roll this out daily Mon - Friday. The only content that will change would be the rates on a daily basis. It's v useful info to users but we're a little cautious about it being seen as duplicate content. What advice would you give re title tags too in this new product rollout.

Keyword at homepage
Hi there, this is the url of my homepage: http://www.sehaidoyamama.com/piensapiensa/ PiensaPiensa is not my keyword. I have selected a keyword to optimize the homepage. Does anyone know how to include the keyword in the url of the homepage? I tried to do it in the "pages" section of wordpress but I wasn't able to do it. The home page doesn't allow to change the url. Is it important to set up a keyowrd in the url of the homepage? Is it appropiate from the usability perspective? Thanks

Duplicate Content Issues with Forum
Hi Everyone, I just signed up last night and received the crawl stats for my site (ShapeFit.com). Since April of 2011, my site has been severely impacted by Google's Panda and Penguin algorithm updates and we have lost about 80% of our traffic during that time. I have been trying to follow the guidelines provided by Google to fix the issues and help recover but nothing seems to be working. The majority of my time has been invested in trying to add content to "thin" pages on the site and filing DMCA notices for copyright infringement issues. Since this work has not produced any noticeable recovery, I decided to focus my attention on removing bad backlinks and this is how I found SEOmoz. My question is about duplicate content. The crawl diagnostics showed 6,000 errors for duplicate page content and the same for duplicate page title. After reviewing the details, it looks like almost every page is from the forum (shapefit.com/forum). What's the best way to resolve these issues? Should I completely block the "forum" folder from being indexed by Google or is there something I can do within the forum software to fix this (I use phpBB)? I really appreciate any feedback that would help fix these issues so the site can hopefully start recovering from Panda/Penguin. Thank you, Kris
